About this ebook
Paramaamrita Pointers To Self Realization Some eight centuries ago Sage Mukundraj wrote a spiritual classic titled Paramaamrita in Marathi. It was a rare gem. Its 323 pithy verses, written in the traditional Ovi format, were direct pointers to Reality. In fact, towards the end of his work, the confident Sage avers that "the one who has accepted and practiced what has been said herein will return to his true Being." However, for reasons best known to Existence, Paramaamrita remained almost unknown except to a few ardent seekers familiar with Marathi. We owe an immense debt of gratitude to Ramesh Balsekar for making this lucid English translation available to a wider audience.
Ramesh S. Balsekar
Ramesh Balsekar, a teacher of pure Advaita, or non-duality, is an unearthly blend of the utterly human and utterly divine manifesting as a brilliant spiritual Master. His crystal-clear and profound teachings are backed by his complete understanding that “Nobody does anything” coupled with his life experience as a top executive of a major Indian bank, as a huband, father and grandfather – all lived knowing that it is all happening as God’s Will. For much of his full life Ramesh, whose Guru was Nisargadatta Maharaj, has been devoted to Ramana Maharshi, in whose spirit Ramesh welcomes seekers and asks “Who is seeking? Leave the seeking to Him who started the seeking.”

CHAPTER ONE
At His Lotus Feet
My salutations to you, O Sadguru – you who are the donor of that which is the most acceptable (i.e. self-knowledge); Oh, potent one, you are the endless and limitless ocean of compassion. [1:1]
O my Guru, you are the Supreme Happiness Itself, the self-effulgent Supreme Lord, offering liberation; you are the formless image of the Self, and therefore, indestructible. [1:2]
You stand Alone, Pure, Perpetual, Unfragmented – O Lord, there is no one quite like you. [1:3]
O Lord, the moment you showed your Grace on an individual, you break the bonds of birth and death and liberate him from non-knowledge (Maya). [1:4]
O kind Sadguru, what you are able to do, neither Gods, nor Demons can do; I cannot imagine any one more powerful than You. [1:5]
Other than you, to whom can I surrender, O Lord – whose praises can I sing? Glory be to You, O Lord, whose greatness is fathomless. [1:6]
Like the thread in the cloth, you are the all-pervading One in the entire Universe; and yet, you remain aloof, untouched! [1:7]
Being all-pervading, you yourself assume the many manifested forms in the world and show them all as expressions of Shiva-Shakti (Purusha-Prakriti; Brahma-Maya). [1:8]
O my Sadguru, I can perceive no one other than you; no thought other than you can come into my mind. O Lord, I have, therefore, truly placed my head on your feet (truly surrendered to you). [1:9]
You are the pure self-effulgent Self, whose light of Knowledge prevails everywhere. To you, O Lord, the very core of happiness, my respected salutations. [1:10]
As Brahma, you make use of the guna Rajas to create the world; as Vishnu, through the Sattva Guna you maintain and protect the world; and as Rudra (Shiva), through Tamas, you destroy the world, in order to start the creation again in future. [1:11]
You are the knower of all knowledge, the omniscient witness of everything. You represent both the ‘Tat’ and ‘Twam’, as the all-knowing principle and the individual soul, respectively (in the Mahaa-Vakya – the sublime Pronouncement: ‘Thou art That’). You are all-powerful, O Lord. [1:12]
O Sadguru, you know Reality and therefore you make Consciousness manifest, and being prior to Consciousness, you are the Absolute. [1:13]
This vast expanse of moveable and immoveable manifestation is only an expression of your beingness. You have manifested yourself in innumerable forms. [1:14]
The Consciousness in which all creatures are able to know the world is an expression of your own beingness. Indeed you are the hidden meaning in the word ‘Thou’ (Twam) in the sublime Pronouncement ‘Thou art That’ (Tat Twam asi). [1:15]
It is because of the interaction between Maya and Non-Knowledge that you assume the illusory
