    Ocean Child - William G. DeFoore Ph.D.

    Chapter One: Inside the Walls

In a small sleepy village ,

    Not far from the coast

    Lived Gale and her family,

    Much poorer than most.

    Her father a miller

    Her mother at home.

    Gale often grew restless

    Her heart longing to roam.

Gale’s home was a sad place,

And she had nowhere to hide.

    So she sank into herself

    And kept her pain inside.

    The walls she created

    Did help her some,

    But her greatest freedom

Lay in dreams of days to come.

    Her longing grew stronger

As it does for us all

And at moments she was quiet enough

    To hear the ocean call.

Chapter Two: Dreams of the Sea

Since first sweet Gale laid eyes on the sea,

She knew it was there she wanted to be,

To walk the decks of the ships, tall and proud

To peer from the crow’s nest and cry out loud,

    Laaaand HO!

And watch the crew hop to . . .

There is nothing that Gale would rather do.

    BUT SHE
