    INTRODUCTION

This book is titled, More Of God’s Great Promises For Comfort And Encouragement!, simply because an earlier book on this same subject was titled, Finding Comfort And Encouragement In The Promises Of God In The Last Days! So now God is leading His servant to again write another book dealing with His promises, not only because I have personally turned to God’s promises more and more to encourage myself in the last few weeks, but also because God knows the times we live in, and He knows what people, whom He designed and created, are all undergoing. And we can be sure that He is not only concerned, but He cares deeply!

What has been done in this book is to try, as much as possible, to avoid using the same promises of God as were used to write the previous book, although one or two promises were again mentioned that are also part of the promises in the earlier book. And since this book was included under The Practical Helps Library series, then this means that we will be seeking to be as practical as possible, which entails including as many examples as possible when speaking of events taking place at the present time. When warranted, some personal experiences as are relevant to the topic will be included, since a personal testimony often has a greater impact in terms of driving home a truth or just making a point.

Then we are to also note that at the back of the book, there is an Addenda with three sections. In Addendum A, there is a presentation of the gospel, which is the good news that God gives in His word regarding His Son, The Lord Jesus Christ, for any readers who might not as yet have that vital personal relationship with God through faith in His Son. Then in Addendum B there is a listing of the promises of God found in the book, including the chapter and page number where these are located. And then in Addendum C, there is a listing of the promises covered in the author’s earlier book dealing with God’s great promises, in case this may be of interest to the reader.

And before closing this Introduction, it should be mentioned that after completing 21 years of formal education and then spending almost 28 years working in Project Engineering and Management in the Corporate offices of a large utility, God called His servant as a non-denominational evangelist in early 1999, and then sent me out more than two thousand miles away from family and friends, to the place of service God has assigned, which is where His servant has been, and is still serving Him, as evangelist, author, and counselor. I am a widower with three adopted children, all now married with a family of their own.

And now my prayer is that God will richly bless you as you read this book, and greatly minister to every need in your life, as only God can! To Him be all praise, honor, and glory, with thanksgiving, both now and forevermore! Amen.

It is the blessing of the Lord that makes rich, and He adds no sorrow to it.

    Proverbs 10:22

    CHAPTER ONE

God’s promise of every good thing given and of every perfect gift!

As we begin, let us note God’s great promise at James 1:17, in His word, the Bible, Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. What God is making known to us here is the truth that not only every good thing given comes from His Hand, but also every perfect gift. And to help us understand what God means here, we should be aware that by every good thing given God refers to all that is beneficial for our life here on earth; and in saying every perfect gift, God refers to what cannot be improved upon of what He gives. So what this means then is that we can look at all that comes from God’s Hand and consider it as good and beneficial, as a gift that can never be improved upon!

What we also need to be aware of here, based on what God further says at James 1:17, is that God is not like human beings or anything else that exists in the physical world, in that with God there is no change or variableness, since God is the same today, yesterday, and forever! And not only that, but God is not like a constantly moving shadow, in terms of dependability, in that He is always there, always willing to give! Now if that is not the ultimate Giver, then I do not know what is. So let us ever remember then that God promises to ever be there to provide us with what is good and beneficial and cannot ever be improved upon, since it comes from His Hand, as One Who is absolute perfection.

There are however, as can be expected, conditions for every good thing given and every perfect gift coming from God. For instance, as parents, we do not, generally, give gifts to the children of strangers, or to strangers. And so too with God, His gifts in general are reserved for those who are part of His family, to those who are His by virtue of having come to faith in His precious Son, The Lord Jesus Christ. But even then there are further conditions, for rarely will we as parents reward disobedient children, since then we are only reinforcing their rebellious ways and simply making a mockery of what is good and of what should be encouraged in our children. So too with God, His every good thing given and His every perfect gift is for those of His children who are walking with Him, that is, as those who are obedient to Him by carrying out His
