      Chapter 1, I heard the news today, oh boy.

      I'm sorry, Sylvia. But there is nothing we can really do here.

      Her attorney's words would not stop echoing in her mind. Sylvia Damone put her head against the steering wheel of her SUV which she no longer owned and cried. For the first time in many years she was openly sobbing, her tear ducts releasing a hurricane of torrential rain streaming down her cheeks as if these painful tears had been locked away just waiting for the right moment to help soothe her in the most heartbreaking of times. How did it all go so wrong?

      Just yesterday Sylvia was a thirty-seven year old business owner, mother of an amazing eighteen year old daughter, and a husband she cherished even more today than the day they married. The problem was she thought that Chuck felt the same way. It was crazy how her entire world had been turned upside down all in a span of twenty-four hours.

      Yesterday had started as any other day. Sylvia woke up, went for a run, showered, ate a healthy breakfast of oatmeal with a protein shake, said goodbye to her husband and daughter, and then went to work. She and her best friend Barbara Corchoran had started the little antiques shop five years earlier, mostly just for goofs. Both of their husbands were high profile attorneys in one of the most successful law firms in town. The two women both shared a passion for hard to find antiques and this led to them starting up a business to put their passion to use. Neither one of them needed the money, but their children were growing up and it was becoming harder to fill the hours of the day with something productive and meaningful.

      After work Sylvia went home as usual after picking up some Chinese take-out for dinner. Her family ate Chinese at least once a week. It had always been a favorite and besides after working a full day who had time to cook anymore. Chuck probably wouldn't be home until later anyway. It was a busy time of year for him. Actually, it was rarely not a busy time of year for his firm.

      Sylvia was just sitting dinner on the table when she noticed the envelope attached to the fridge. It simply said Sylvia written in pen on the outside. She recognized it as Chuck's handwriting. A lump appeared in her throat as she tenderly opened the letter and began to read the most soul crushing words she ever thought she would see.

      Somehow Sylvia managed to get through the whole letter before she slumped to the floor and broke down crying her eyes out. She was glad her daughter was not home to see this. She never wanted her little girl to witness the devastation she was going through.

      Chuck was having an affair. He wasn't just having an affair; he was having a torrid love affair with a colleague of his at the firm. And he wasn't just having a love affair; he said he was in love
