    Blackwood Lake - M.R Maze

    BLACKWOOD LAKE

    By

    M.R Maze

« I’M WAITING... BUT waiting for what...? Who am I talking to...?

Blackness, that’s who. Something familiar approaches. Something chaotic...

    A storm?

A loud crashing sound pulls me out from wherever I remained. Paradoxically while doing so I wake up falling into my seat, a branch banding on the window by my side.

    Where am I?

Inside a car. Yes, but why am I in the woods? Obviously not at the brightest of times either. Makes wonder what kind of nimrod I’m running here.

    ...

    That’s a good question, who am I?

Some shuffling of my pockets. Nothing. Should I wait for help?

    Bang.

Another crack in the window. I should leave...

    Most intelligent thing ya’ve said.

    That voice again...

I open the door, forcibly breaking through the ice. Half of the car was buried with snow in the front. It seemed nothing caused the accident, no branches, no other vehicle. I wouldn’t have driven myself here for no reason, right?

The wilderness announces its presence, howling of the wind and snow blowing chillingly in my face. I consider what idiotic outerwear I have a destination must be made and had. Walking seems to be a good place to start.
