INTRODUCTION
THE KETOGENIC DIET
The ketogenic diet has been the talk of the town for some decades now. It is popularly known for its miracle of incredible weight loss and weight control through the process known as KETOSIS. Ketosis is simply when the body uses fat as the fuel it runs with rather than carbohydrate. The basic reason for keto diets is to make your body adjust and regulate itself to this metabolic state. However, this book will focus more on enjoying your air fryer and keep the carbs as low as possible.
PRINCIPAL BENEFITS OF THE KETOGENIC DIET
• Incredible weight loss due reduced insulin level in the body system.
• Keto diets improve mental concentration. Low carb diets seriously reduce blood sugar spike which in turn shoots up the focus and alertness of the brain.
• It regulates blood sugar level in the body as the sugar level in this diet is very negligible and reduces blood disease such as diabetes TYPE II amongst others.
• It helps skin improvement and prevents what is called ACNE.
• Fat is known to be a more reliable source of energy, making the keto diet a more reliable source of energy for the body to run with keeping your body more energized all day.
• Another benefit is a consistent and more positive mood. When excessive amount of carbs are consumed, the sugar that you’re consuming can cause an increase and decrease in your blood sugar, which in turn causes mood swings, irritability, tiredness and dizziness.
• It shields the heart from diseases. Though the ketogenic diet is high in fat, but the fats recommended are not trans-fats. They are healthy fats, like those found in olive oil, nuts, and fatty fish. This in turn lowers the risk of having heart disease or even obesity.
• Research shows that the ketogenic diet fights cancer cells. It is believed that a diet that is high in sugar might cause the rapid explosion of cancer cells. It is also believed that cancer cells cannot use fat rather it uses glucose. Therefore, a diet that eliminates processed carbohydrates may be effective in fighting cancer.
THE AIR FRYER
An air fryer according to Wikipedia is a kitchen appliance that cooks by circulating hot air around the food using the convection mechanism. A mechanical fan circulates the hot air around the food at high speed, cooking the food and producing a crispy layer via the Maillard effect.
PARTS OF THE AIR FRYER
1. Fan and Grill: This is the part of the air fryer that does the major work by circulating and keeping the air very hot so as to get the desired crispness of your choice.
2. Cooking Chamber: This is where the main cooking happens. What inside looks like depends of the brand you have with you. Some have walled cook baskets, some have racks and some have normal cooking baskets. Whatever air fryer you have will do your job perfectly.
3. Food Tray: The air fryer tray also varies depending on your brands. Some have boundary walls built around it allowing multiple cooking while some do not. My advice is that you get a air fryer that suits how you would be cooking the most; one with a universal handle will work best.
4. Heating Element: This is the coil inside your air fryer that produces heat from the electricity that passes through it. When the coil heats up to the desired temperature, it is pushed via the coil into your fan and grill.
5. Exhaust System/Filter: This helps in getting rid of harmful or excess pressure. The filter also helps in taking out offensive odors and dirt which could affect your meal.
MAJOR BENEFITS OF THE AIR FRYER
1. Saves Time: This gets most of your meals ready in 30 minutes except for a few and that for me is a goal!
2. Weight Control Attainable: The use of air fryer reduces or eliminates the use of fat, which in turn makes weight control achievable.
3. Easy Cleaning: This device is very simple to clean, especially the food trapper and fryer basket. Just wipes and dry napkin will do the magic.
4. User Friendly: This device is easy to operate as the settings are quite easy. All that is required after getting your recipes in place is your cooking time and temperature.
5. Many Cooking Preferences: Your air fryer can roast, bake, grill, fry and even sauté without even bothering to use any oil. This is good news especially when you don't have to bother about getting another appliance(s).
6. Saves Energy: This appliance consumes lesser electricity than many of electric oven. This is definitely a good catch especially in the summer.
AIR FRYER ON THE GO
I will be sharing with you few steps that will make the use of air fryer very easy for you. Here we go;
1. Shake your air fryer basket while you cook your meals within 5-10 minutes. This is key especially when preparing meals that can be compressed or smaller meals like meatballs, chips, French fries, etc.
2. Avoid Overcrowding: Ensure there is adequate space for the hot air to go round what you are preparing. It is best you work in batches.
3. Preheat Air Fryer: Most recipes require preheating. So always read the instructions as the preheating gives it the crispness required.
4. Use Keto-Friendly Oils: If you must use oil in cooking your meals, I recommend you use coconut oil, olive oil or even butter.
5. Grease Your Basket: This will prevent the meal from sticking to your basket.
6. Cooling off Is Necessary: Always wait for at least one hour to ensure the air fryer is completely cool before cleaning it.
7. Pat Dry Marinades: Pat dry marinated foods before cooking in the air fryer to avoid creating a mess of the meal.
8. Heatproof Bowls: If you are required to use
