"One essential characteristic of modern life is that we all depend on systems – on assemblages of people or technologies or both – and among our most profound difficulties is making them work." – Atul Gawande
Checklists were invented long ago, but they are still used. They were created out of necessity to execute the extremely complicated process of flying military aircraft but they still have a lot of relevance. And that's because checklists have evolved as well with the passing of time. Gawande with his medical experience demonstrate how even surgeons tasked to do complex surgeries use checklists to aid them during the procedure and it has reduced the rate of fatalities by more than a third. There are a lot of proof about how influential checklists are in the modern era and in The Checklist Manifesto you'll learn all about it.
Gawande shares with us riveting stories about the importance of checklists. Their power might shock you but they will also convince you of their utility.
P.S. The Checklist Manifesto is an extremely informative book that will teach you the importance of checklists, an invention many people nowadays mistakenly underestimate.
P.P.S. It was Albert Einstein who famously said that once you stop learning, you start dying. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The book explores Gawande's first disastrous efforts to craft a surgical checklist, the learning from other professions about what makes a good checklist, and is richly illustrated with stories of failures, near misses, and saves from different domains, and is a very powerful read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I like a book a that directly applies to life and the choices we can make for excellence. Full of real situations illustrating the impact of his premise, the book gets you thinking. It fully describes a tool one could develop in a variety of arenas in ones life to make better decisions and bring about success.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Highly recommend the book. I don’t think you need to reward it cover to cover - some key chapters will get you 90% of the value, but the prose is so good that you may as well enjoy it.
