All of us have a deep respect for those who demonstrate the ability to be the master of their own lives. We may not always agree with their strength of determination, but we can’t deny that there is something honorable about a person that can say no to temptation and turn a blind eye to something that we know they are drawn to. For those who lack self-discipline, they appear to be almost superhuman.

So, we head off to the movies without them, or we indulge in that awesome dessert knowing that we shouldn’t. We see them as warriors who are able to do the things we only wish we could do.

It’s true, those who have self-discipline are often fewer in number than those who do not. Yet these are the ones that most of us turn to when we need something. They are the ones who are successful on their diets, they are the ones that get the promotions and raises at work, and they are the ones who have their lives and homes organized to the point of envy.

When in a pinch, we all want to be able to show self-discipline in our lives, but for some reason, we find ourselves struggling. We may have the desire to accomplish major feats and tackle the overwhelming mountain of tasks before us, and we start with an intense fervor and determination that we muster up from deep within us. However, something happens, and all that drive starts to wane, and before we know it, we are slipping once again back into our old ways.

It is a constant battle to face this world we live in. Self-discipline is not only an admired trait. It is also one that is necessary to navigate this fast-paced environment. The situations that each of us encounter can be quite uncomfortable and may even be dangerous at times.
