About this ebook

Nevada Frida Baylor and Connor Ander Rogan cordially invite you to join their wedding celebration. Summoning, weather manipulation, and other magical activities strictly forbidden.

Catalina Baylor is looking forward to wearing her maid of honor dress and watching her older sister walk down the aisle.  Then the wedding planner gets escorted off the premises, the bride’s priceless tiara disappears, and Rogan's extensive family overruns his mother’s home.  Someone is cheating, someone is lying, and someone is plotting murder.

To make this wedding happen, Catalina will have to do the thing she fears most: use her magic.  But she’s a Baylor and there’s nothing she wouldn't do for her sister's happiness.  Nevada will have her fairy tale wedding, even if Catalina has to tear the mansion apart brick by brick to get it done.

Ilona Andrews

“Ilona Andrews” is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian, and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.) They have co-authored four New York Times and USA Today bestselling series: the urban fantasy of Kate Daniels, rustic fantasy of the Edge, paranormal romance of Hidden Legacy, and Innkeeper Chronicles. They live in Texas with their two children and many dogs and cats.

This review first appeared on A Weebish Book Blog.In WHITE HOT by Ilona Andrews, Nevada and Connor are back on the hunt for the secret conspiracy organization responsible for Pierce’s plan to destroy Houston in BURN FOR ME. When the group decides she and her family must be silenced for good, Nevada once again partners with Connor “Mad” Rogan to bring them to justice. Andrews delivers a unique mixture of magically enhanced warfare, an endearing cast of characters, and wickedly heated romance in this riveting second book of the Hidden Legacy series.I fell hard for Nevada in BURN FOR ME and after devouring the second book in the series, I’m as enamored as ever. She will do anything to keep her family and the people who need her help safe, even if it means revealing the secret of her truthseeker powers to the world, revealing her “monstrous” powers that even the most dangerous mages fear, and never returning to the normal life she desires.Teaming up with Connor Rogan is not Nevada’s idea of a good time. She is wickedly attracted to Mr. Tall, Dark, and Dangerous, but she won’t settle for physical attraction, she wants love. That’s not the only reason to avoid a relationship with the man. He IS named Mad Rogan for a reason. While she’s not so sure she believes he’s the sociopath he appears to be in BURN FOR ME, she’s not sure she’d survive a relationship with the man.I can’t say I blame her for avoiding a relationship with the most dangerous Prime in the country, but as the mystery behind what made Mad Rogan a force to be reckoned with begins to clear, it’s hard to fault any woman for falling for him. Yes, he considers some actions most people consider wrong as a means to an end, but he is also loyal, principled, and never goes back on his word. After reading WHITE HOT, he has earned the title of Book Boyfriend. But an intensely sexy romance with yummy magically charged sex is not all WHITE HOT has to offer. There’s the delightfully weird, but oh so hilarious Baylor family composed of Nevada’s mechanic grandmother who builds tanks and other armored vehicles, an ex-military sniper mother who’d rather shoot first and ask questions later, two sisters whose powers may be even more terrifying than Nevada’s, two cousins with very handy talents, and a father whose death still hurts, but who’s mysterious past comes back to haunt them in WHITE HOT.There’s also Cornelius Harrison, Significant level animal mage of the Prime House Harrison and his adorable four-year old daughter. They have their own parts to play in WHITE HOT and they’re just as entertaining as the Baylor family.I’ve never read an Ilona Andrews novel that I didn’t love. Her worlds are well-crafted, unique, and always one of a kind. Her characters are heartwarming, heartbreaking, and just plain moving. If you’ve never experienced the addictive writing of an Ilona Andrews novel, you are missing out.

This book was electric and lively, scene after scene of brilliant action and romance. I felt giddy with excitement through the first few chapters, especially during the intense Nevada/Rogan reunion after a few months separation.

The first book gained strength from its slightly vague and mysterious world building, but the details filled out in the sequel were thoughtful and interesting. We find out more about the House system and the Assembly where mages wield their political power. The elusive villian is also fleshed out a bit more.

White Hot also delves deeper into Nevada's family, whom I adore, and I was pleasantly surprised by some of the magic they possess.

The romance was hot, as the title suggested, but also sweet, witty and occasionally a little angsty. The perfect combination. I could definitely see how Nevada/Rogan shippers would set Herald alight.

The series continues to have the charm of the Kate Daniels series. It could be my imagination, but I thought there were a few delightful Kate references thrown in there. It definitely borrows from some of Kate's themes more than Burn For Me (I won't spoil which ones), but still has a unique voice of its own. It has more of a modern edge, a military influence and action scenes that spark. The books are shorter, more compact- which is great because every word is special and it has an intense momentous energy, but I would also absolutely read a ten part series of 1000 word Nevada books.

There were some serious hits to the publishing timeframe of the book which were frustrating at the time, but it was well worth the wait. I'm really excited that Wildfire is coming so soon. Bring it on!

The Nevada Baylor series takes you to dizzying heights, and makes you feel like there's a world of infinite possibility in them. Every moment was exactly what I would have wanted if I'd known what to ask for. Long live Nevada!

I just wanted to say that is you are following this trilogy, reading this book is really going to be worth it. Luckily for fans, the last book in this trilogy Wildfire is going to come out only two months after this one comes out. (July 25, 2017)What I did want to say is that with reading this book I see sooo many parallels to the Kate Daniel's books. I can't wait for you to read this to see if you see it too.The only thing this trilogy gives us that is different from the Kate series, is real sex (not in the first book, but in this one), not just the sex being talked about in hints and the abstract. (I am not so happy with the particular word usage for Nevada's lady bits, but what can I say? My issue, my problem.)I would love to see a novella or book that looks at the action in this trilogy through Conner's eyes. This is a wonderful fantasy trilogy – it is all about magic, the highest magic users and what the world is like for the haves and have-nots. It is a great mystery - the trilogy has a new mystery with each new book, while still drawing out the biggest mystery (who is trying to bring down the Houses of Houston). The mystery we are delving into with each new book.If you have not read the first book in this trilogy -I suggest that you do. You don’t really need to since the author’s do a fantastic job of bringing you pretty much up-to-date. But it will go a long way of describing this new world and give you very good insights into some of the important characters. (plus, it is quite inexpensive at the moment!!!)In this the second book in this series, we find even more character and world building. Nevada is really coming into her own and is showing to be almost as mercenary as Kate is (from the Kate Daniel’s series by the same author’s) as far as certain things go. They really are very similar character’s.Conner is a bit more--- I was going to say Alpha than Curran, but that really isn’t the correct word! Conner is just broodier and angstier than Curran. The story line in this book is a fascinating one starting with Nevada and crew being hired to solve the murder of the wife of a minor character in the book before this one (who now becomes so much more!) and turns into something so much more complicated…but since it is almost all of the story-lines are tied up at the end it really works. (note that I said, ‘almost all of the story-lines’)One thing I want to mention is that the character of Augustine Montgomery is such a perfect melding of Ghastek Stefanoff and Saiman (I would really love to see a book or novella just on Augustine). So, all in all this was a very sexy and satisfying, complicated but not too complicated read and I cannot wait for the last book in the trilogy.

The world in which this series, Hidden Legacy, is set is very much like our own. Except that in this world there are humans that come from families that have magical skills and abilities. Hundreds of years ago a serum had been invented that brought forth latent magic that existed in certain humans but the serum was eventually destroyed. After the magic was awakened though it became part of the genetic code for those families and eventually highly magical families became “Houses” and the ones with the greatest magical ability became known as Primes. These families have developed their own aristocracy within the human world and they protect their bloodlines with rabid ferocity. In Burn for Me it was disclosed that Nevada Baylor was a truthseeker but she thought that her entire skill set was that she was able to detect whether or not a person was telling the truth. Nevada’s mom has always tried to keep her children’s magical skills a secret and drilled it into her kids that they needed to hide their burgeoning talents. Although her mother had her reasons (which we learn more behind those reasons in this story) it had left Nevada with a handicap, a handicap that had nearly killed her on several occasions. In White Hot Nevada comes into her own, she has been practicing her magic and has become quite proficient. Not only can she tell if someone is telling the truth, she can force them to tell her the truth. It was fascinating to see how the Authors developed this talent and made it complex and fascinating. In the previous installment, I was shocked at the end because Rogan and Nevada did not end up together and I had so desperately wanted that. The attraction was there but Nevada wanted to be more than a conquest to Rogan. Since their separation, Nevada had pined for Rogan but was determined that she did not need or want him. Silly woman! I loved her family through all of this because they had been teasing Nevada without mercy about when “the wedding” was going to be and stuff liked that. Her family was written perfectly and I could see their interactions clearly, it was most entertaining. They could see what she was too stubborn to look at closely. There was something between her and Rogan that shouldn’t be denied. After taking a case that was maneuvered by Augustine, Nevada and Rogan were brought together most unexpectedly. Turns out they were both seeking answers to the same crime and although Nevada was not interested in it, her client decided that he wanted to collaborate with Rogan. Rogan had information and resources that would help the investigation into who was responsible for the murder of the legal team of House Forsberg of which her client’s wife was an employee. Rogan also had a personal stake in this investigation as he lost some employees when the meeting went sideways. Together this trio must overcome some great odds as it becomes clear that there is mastermind pulling some serious strings. The same mastermind that was responsible for the death and carnage from the first book. In this installment, there is more information as Nevada and Rogan begin to slowly discover that there is a conspiracy that goes deeper than they ever could have considered.I enjoyed this book just like I enjoy all the books from this writing duo. It is not just the storyline or romance that endears me to their work, although the romance was the perfect combination of steamy and snarky for me. It is the characters that keep me coming back for more. They are complex and well written. Even the supporting characters are fleshed out and memorable. Ilona Andrews writes such great characters that they could do a spin-off series that follows each character, supporting included, and it would be fantastic. I love the interactions between all these characters; it feels real every single time. Another great installment in this trilogy!

Nevada Baylor hasn’t spoken with Rogan in months and she’s slowly begun to move on with her life even though the maddening man (ha — see what I did there) is never far from her mind. She agrees to investigate the murder of Cornelius Harrison’s wife and Nevada not only finds herself in the middle of a massive conflict between multiple magical families (or “Houses”) but right back in the path of Rogan himself. This time around they realize that they simply get more done when they work together as allies.‘Suddenly the past two months of normal life tore apart, like fragile paper, and I was right back next to Rogan, about to charge into a fight. And it felt right.’The conflict between Houses puts the duo in serious danger when some of the most powerful members of the magical society become involved. When they’re not trying to keep one another from dying, they’re trying to work out what to do with the sparks flying between them.“And now that I’m conveniently here, you decide to give it another shot. Is there a shortage of attractive women in your life, Connor?”“There is a shortage of you in my life,” he said. This is my 17th Ilona Andrews book and I feel I can safely declare myself a rabid fangirl. (I have yet to dive into her The Edge series but give me time.) Ilona Andrews stories are absolutely one of the reasons I remain as hardcore an Urban Fantasy fan as I am today and her Hidden Legacy series only helps solidify that. Their characterization is superb and no character is left without a role or sounding like a replica of another. Nevada is one awesome badass lady that can hold her own, Rogan is far more beyond being just a love interest placeholder and professional of zingy one-liners, and even the side characters (Nevada’s sniper mother, crazy sisters, and hilarious grandmother) are fantastic.Grandma Frida burst through the door in her yellow rubber-ducky pajamas. “Grandma’s here,” I added. What I love about this series is how developed her world-building is beyond “people have powers” — we meet some new players in the game: summoners, fulgurkinetics, elementalists, and even some magically created monsters not of this world. In lesser hands, these unique aspects would easily come across as cheesy and overwhelming but Andrews makes everything so fascinating. If I’m being real, the fantastic world-building is only an added bonus when it comes to the romance though and it’s rare that I say anything along those lines (worldbuilding is typically always first because if you don’t have worldbuilding… you’ve got yourself a bodice ripper, amirite?) Urban Fantasy typically always includes a romance in some shape or form but there’s some crazy sexual tension going on (and has since book 1) but View Spoiler » And also, some good news… the wait for book 3 is not long at all: Wildfire comes out July 25th, 2017. I’m already chomping at the bit and even contemplating reading both again because this series is that good (horrendously bad covers aside, but at least Rogan finally found a shirt by book 3.)

Wow. This book. White Hot is the first book I've read by Ilona Andrews, but it definitely won't be my last! I loved Nevada's snarkiness and her relationship with her family, and don't even get me started on Connor...whoa. This book's writing makes a world full of fantastic (and quite frankly, scary as heck) stuff seem perfectly normal. I do wish I'd had time to read the first book in the trilogy first (Burn for Me)--you do get some background here, but I still felt behind times a bit. And of course, I absolutely need to see Nevada and  Connor from the very beginning. No worries. It'll give me something to do while I wait for book three... Rating: 4 1/2 stars / A I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This book was a little better then the first in the series, in that the all the male characters aren't total scum. The one nice male character from the "Burn for Me", Cornelius Harrison is back as a main character in this one and he is pretty awesome. As an animal mage he has a team of ferrets that act as spies. I look forward to the third book supposed to be released at the end of next month. Rogan also appears to be softening into a tiny bit more of a human being.

This series has some very interesting and intense magic. Nevada and 'Mad' Rogan face yet another mystery together. Nevada now knows her skill, but is trying to keep it a secret and at the same time trying to make sense of the future. I love how their relationship grows in this book. A good mix of magic, action and romance.

This book takes place after the 3rd book in the Hidden Legacy series. It was an okay read but not great. It’s very short and mainly transitions the reader from Nevada’s story to Catalina’s story. The book is about Nevada and Rogan’s wedding, but the story is told from her sister Catalina’s viewpoint. An expensive jewel is stolen and Catalina is tasked with finding it. In the process she uncovers a variety of secrets about Rogan’s extended family. This is pretty short and took me maybe an hour or so to read.Overall this is okay but not great. I would recommend to fans of the Hidden Legacy series because it transitions us from Nevada’s story to Catalina’s story. It’s a quick read and provides a bit of background info but isn’t completely necessary or all that interesting. I wouldn’t recommend reading as a stand alone.

This is a novella and the first book of the Hidden Legacy series that focuses on Catalina (Nevada's sister). An heirloom is stolen from Roagn's family and Catalina is asked to investigate because Nevada is busy with final wedding preparations. I was excited to finally know more about Catalina and how her magic as a Siren worked. The story was fast paced and despite being a novella it was fully fleshed out. Looking forward to the next book and finding out more about Nevada.

A 2017 novel, book 2 in the Hidden Legacy series.A private murder investigation is hampered by billionaire wizards.B (Good).I enjoyed this a good deal more than Burn For Me. It's a page-turner, more a fantasy/action book with romance than a romance book with fantasy/action. (Although, there is a long and extremely boring sex scene that felt like a list of different ways to say "she liked pleasure.") If you can forget the events of the first book, Rogan is more sympathetic now. I still don't see any emotional basis for the romance, though - they're both just horny and attractive.(Dec. 2022)

Well, that was exciting. Still more urban fantasy than paranormal romance, but when the Andrews team decides to get down to the romance, they don't mess around. The non-romance part of the story is fast-paced and exciting as hell; I woke up in the middle of the night last night and my first thought was "oh, I can start reading again!" and it was only through supreme effort (and pharmaceuticals) that I refrained from doing so. But I did start up again at 8am this morning and didn't stop until it was finished. I'm thoroughly enjoying watching all the characters come together; the team it took Kate more than 5 books to build up has only taken Nevada 2. The only niggling thing I was a tiny bit disappointed in is the overall series arc: I sense shades of Roland. And don't get me wrong, I love the Roland storyline in Kate Daniels, but if it's used here, it's going to feel repetitive; it's not the sort of plot device that wears well over time. I have the third book and I have no idea how I'm not going to pick it up and devour it immediately. But if I do than I have to wait who-knows-how-long until the 4th one is out. Curse you Ilona Andrews! (I originally used the first book Burn for Me for my demon square, but it had a very scant mention of demons. This book was much more demon-rich, so I've switched Burn For Me over to Supernatural, and I'm using this one for Demons. No Bingos were altered in the switching.)

Nevada Baylor is back -- as principled, dangerous and full of risk-taking as ever. This book is everything I wanted it to be: a detailed and fascinating magical world, intricate plotting, and mile a minute adventure. As Nevada gets drawn more and more deeply into the high stakes politics of mage society, we finally see some of her family's secrets revealed, even as her flirtation with Mad Rogan sends Houston into chaos.

Now that the stakes are even higher, both professionally and personally, and their foes are unimaginably powerful, Rogan and Nevada will find that nothing burns like ice …

I was so very sad when it was announced that book two, WHITE HOT, was going to be delayed for a re-release of BURN FOR ME. I read BURN FOR ME immediately upon release so it was a very long almost three year wait. BUT, I re-read BURN FOR ME and all the great reasons I fell in love with Nevada and the Hidden Legacy world came flooding back very quickly and I was ready to read WHITE HOT when it so lovingly landed in my lap. A short two months have passed since the events of BURN FOR ME took place. Has Nevada and Mad Rogan seen each other? Has anyone found out her secret? Every moment of finding out the answers to those questions and more was great. I absolutely love both Nevada and Rogan separately, but together? They are truly something else. Sparks are always flying whether it's because they're fighting each other, fighting their attraction, or giving into it. They both have strengths that they bring to their relationship and watching that relationship evolve is pure entertainment. On top of the romance we get in WHITE HOT, we also get to learn a lot more about Rogan and his past. His story was not only mind-opening, but also heartbreaking. He has been through alot and learning it made me love him even more than I already did and I felt like I truly understood him and his faults so much better. The worldbuilding in this series is fantastically done. I love learning about the different magics and people. Nothing is introduced without a reason and the reason is always intriguing. The ending of WHITE HOT left me yearning to find out how things would end for Nevada and her family—although I really don't want their story to end. Do yourself a favor and put this series on your to-read list, you won't be disappointed. * This book was provided free of charge from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

The second Hidden Legacy novel was as compelling and the first and has left me aching for the third.Nevada Baylor takes the case of Cornelius Harrison who wants to find out who caused the death of his wife. Normally the magical community in Houston has its own ways of dealing with this sort of problem. But the House Nari Harrison worked for is covering and threatens to blacken her reputation if Cornelius doesn't drop his inquiries.Normally a case that would pit Nevada's small family run private investigation business would be too much for her to handle. But she takes the case because someone needs to stand up for Nari. Her investigation brings her back into contact with Connor "Mad" Rogan is one of the fiercest and scariest Primes in Houston and who is an object of romantic interest to Nevada even though she knows a romance with him would be a bad, bad idea. The investigation quickly leads deep into House business and House goals and gets Nevada, Rogan, and others into the middle of a very twisty mess. It doesn't help that Nevada is hiding a Prime level talent of her own that makes her someone any House would want to control. This twisty plot combines a romance that is hot enough to scorch the pages, a conspiracy with ruthless villains, and an evil grandmother with plans of her own for Nevada and her family. I loved the fast paced action, the romance, and the love and loyalty shown by Nevada and her family.

In the aftermath of the Adam Pierce investigation, Nevada Baylor has returned to her detective agency. Little does she know that her new case investigating the murder of several lawyers will bring her back into the sphere of the shadowy conspiracy behind the attack on Houston as well as into the sights of billionaire Prime, Connor "Mad" Rogan, who has his own interest in the deaths.

I rarely fangirl about a book, but this one is fabulously amazeballs!

Not only is the magical world, in which the level of one's power determines familial, social, financial and political status, exceptionally well-crafted and detailed, but the characters are multi-dimensional and believable despite the urban fantasy setting and otherworldly elements.

The heroine, Nevada Baylor, is incredible. The originality and growth of her magic combined with her intelligence and empathy for others make her very appealing as does the fact that she can hold her own against some of the most powerful magic users in her world.

Connor Rogan initially comes across as a typical alpha male with overbearing and overprotective tendencies. However, once the details of his experiences in the military emerge, once cannot help but admire his resilience. Moreover, his loyalty to his people, his affection for young children and his obvious love for Nevada demonstrate that there is a heart beating beneath his sociopathic façade.

The romance between Rogan and Nevada is off the charts. Their snarky banter, witty remarks and snappy comebacks lead up to some truly excellent sexy scenes.

In terms of the secondary characters, Nevada's quirky and hilarious family add some much needed comic relief to the darker themes of magic, murder and mayhem. More details about the abilities in the Baylor clan are also forthcoming, and it will be interesting to see how the range and scope of their powers come into play in the final installment.

In sum, Ilona Andrews can literally do no wrong when it comes to world building, plotting, characterization and action packed sequences. Cannot wait to read the final book in October.

I liked this entry into the Hidden Legacy series better than the first. Rogan is still ultra Alpha but much more humanized and less obnoxious. It make the book work better and be more believable. I like that the sisters' magic is being slowly introduced and the emphasis on family has not been lost. The introduction of the Tremaine House and Prime also ups the stakes.

Ilona Andrews’ WHITE HOT is an amazing addition to the Hidden Legacy Series. Nevada Baylor’s latest case brings her back in contact with Connor "Mad" Rogan. This Urban Fantasy Romance is suitable for adult audiences. Ilona Andrews continues to do a great job with her character development. Nevada’s powers and personality grow in this story. She is discovering that she will do anything to protect her family and the people she cares about. I appreciate that she has a rare talent that she wants to keep hidden. I like Connor. We learn numerous details about his past that explains the way he acts. He had a traumatic experience that turned him into the person he is. His communication skills are not always the best. He is powerful and looks out for those in his ranks. I enjoyed his persistence where Nevada is concerned. Nevada and Connor have great chemistry. I’m interested in seeing where their relationship goes in future books. I enjoyed the plot. It was mysterious with lots of action and conspiracy. The different types of mages are fascination. If I was a mage, I would want Cornelius Harrison’s power as an animal mage. I have two ferrets; I loved the scene with ferrets and ferret-badger. The introduction of Victoria Tremaine was compelling. I look forward to learning more about her in the next book in the series, WILDFIRE. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

I loved this book so much! I really wish that I could give it more than 5 stars because it has an extra layer of awesome that you don't often find. I have been wanting to get my hands on this book ever since I finished Burn for Me back in 2014 and it turns out that it was worth the wait. I have already read this book twice and I know that I will be reading it many more times in the future. It is really that good. One of the things that I love the most about this book are the characters. I really can't get enough of them. Mad Rogan is a powerful man that is feared by many. He can move buildings...literally. He is sexy and doesn't care what anyone thinks of him. Nevada really is learning what she is capable of in this book and it turns out she is much more than simply a lie detector. She is smart and thinks on her feet. She is very focused on doing what is right and protecting her family. I loved the changes in the relationship between Mad Rogan and Nevada. This is really a pivotal book in terms of their relationship with each other. I really enjoyed all of their scenes together whether they were related to the case or extracurricular activities. You can really see how they feel about each other anytime they showed up on the page together and the build up was really off the charts. Nevada starts working on a case involving a murder after Cornelius shows up at her office with his young daughter and an assortment of animals in tow. His wife was murdered in service to another house and nobody seems to want to look into it. Rogan gets involved and they find themselves trying to solve a much bigger conspiracy that is tied to several important houses. There was a lot of excitement and they worked to solve the case and I had more than a few moments where I was sitting on the edge of my seat wondering how things would work out. I would recommend this book to everyone who likes an exciting story set in a wonderful world. This is the second book in the Hidden Legacy series and I do recommend that you read the series in order. You really can't go wrong with this book because the story is exciting, the characters are some of the best I have ever read, and there are a few lighter moments to really even things out including a covert team of ferrets. I am an avid fan of Ilona Andrews and can't wait to read the next book in this fantastic series.I received an advanced reader edition of this book from Avon Books via Edelweiss.

White Hot is the second book in the Hidden Legacy series by Ilona Andrews. The action starts fast and furious with this installment as Nevada takes on a new client.Private Investigator Nevada Baylor is a truthseeker, a rare talent and someone who can tell if a person is lying or telling the truth. She is approached by Cornelius Harrison of House Harrison for a job: investigate and solve his wife's murder. Nari Harrison was gunned down at the Hotel Sha Sha under suspicious circumstances. Normally the Baylor Investigative Agency refuses murder investigations due to the high risk nature of the job. Nevada finds she can't turn down someone who is obviously so upset over his wife's death. It also turns out that Connor Rogan is interested in this investigation as one of his employees was also killed in the crossfire at Hotel Sha Sha. As the pair begin digging into Nari's murder it's obvious this is just a small part of a much larger conspiracy.I am loving this UF universe that the Andrews have created. With the basic world building handled in the first book, this book expands upon what we already know. We get to see more of everything: more magic powers, more action, more House politics, more romance, more about the Baylor's mysterious heritage. While Nevada and Connor are the stars of the show, the supporting characters are every bit as well-drawn and enjoyable to read about. Nevada's family is so much fun. Grandma Freida has to be the coolest 73-year old ever! I'm glad Nevada's sisters Catalina and Arabella provide more help with the investigation as it lets them show off their personalities and powers more. Cornelius Harrison and his daughter Matilda come from a House of animal mages so it was super neat to see that power in action. It is the basis of my favorite scene in the whole book, the ferret heist. The romance kicks it up a notch as well. The chemistry between Nevada and Connor sizzles which leads to one hell of a sex scene. It is fairly explicit in nature reinforcing that this series not for younger audiences.I am enjoying the hell out of this series. Can't wait to see what happens next.
