The Story of Holy Week

About this ebook
Journey with me as we walk in the footsteps of Christ in that last week He was here on this earth.
By walking with me, you will not only get a better understanding of what God did for YOU over 2000 years ago, but also what He is continuing to do for you today.
I will tell you it is not an easy walk. In fact, it will be the hardest walk you will ever take, but to truly understand what waking up on Easter Sunday morning means, you must walk the darkness of the week prior.
You will not walk it alone. In fact, if you stay behind Jesus on this walk, and only place your feet in His footprints, your life will be changed.
Already a Christian? It does not matter on this walk.
You know the scriptures inside and out? It does not matter on this walk.
This walk is intended to change your heart.
This walk is intended to change your life.
This walk is intended to show you that no matter what situation you are in, Jesus understands because He has been there before you.
Are you ready?
Always remember it was not nails that held Jesus to that cross. It was LOVE.
Open the pages to a love that will forever whisper to you, "I love you this much," and He held out his arms on that cross for you.

Saturday Night Before Holy Week
Eight days before Easter Sunday
John 12
12 Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. ² Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. ³ Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
⁴ But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, ⁵ "Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.[b]" ⁶ He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.
⁷ Leave her alone,
Jesus replied. "It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. ⁸ You will always have the poor among you,[c] but you will not always have me."
⁹ Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was there and came, not only because of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. ¹⁰ So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well, ¹¹ for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and believing in him.
RevDeb Version
Saturday Night
To begin with, I want to explain why I start with Saturday the day before Palm Sunday for my beginning of Holy Week. Most writers start with Palm Sunday as the beginning.
You might also notice the scripture in John says, six days before Passover.
Passover for the Jews will be Thursday night of Holy Week.
Since I am writing in the RevDeb
version, what Jesus did on Saturday night is extremely important to my heart and hopefully will be to yours.
I would like to put you in the right frame of mind as we sit in the home of Martha, Mary, and Lazarus by asking you a question.
If you knew you only had seven days left on this earth (Jesus dies on Friday of this week), what friend or friends would you choose to spend an evening with?
Would it be friends you have been with for a long time? Friends you just made three years ago?
This is where Jesus is on Saturday night before Holy Week officially
begins.
In the Jewish tradition, Saturday was their Sabbath. Sunday is the Sabbath for the Gentiles (that would be all non-Jewish
people).
Slip on your Jesus sandals and let’s go into the home of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. Crazy things are fixin’ to happen (Did I mention I am from Mississippi? It’s not a clerical error—fixin’. It’s a way of speaking. 😊)
John 12
1Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. ² Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him.
Martha, Martha, Martha! So many of us relate to the Martha in us. Always serving, cooking, cleaning, being the best hostess we can be. There are many of you reading this that relate better to Lazarus. He is relaxed, reclining at the table with Jesus. Enjoying the wine and laughter going around the table.
If you are wondering if this is the same Lazarus that Jesus raised from the dead after being in the tomb for four days, Yes, it is.
He is probably at peace because he knows if he happens to choke on the wine, the healer is right beside him.
I digress!
The house is full. All 12 of the disciples are around the table, hence, the tired look on Martha’s face.
Everyone is having a great time. None but Jesus knows what the next day and week, will bring. If they all knew, smiles would take a back seat to the heartbreak and anguish within their hearts.
Where is Mary, you say? Mary is getting ready to throw this happy little party into a frenzy.
Check out the next verse.
John 12
³ Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
Probably no one, but Jesus, paid attention to Mary as she walked into the room with an alabaster jar of perfume. Jesus, I am sure, watched her approach and knew her intention. He also knew what a scene would follow as Mary started her task.
As Mary began to kneel at the feet of Jesus, all eyes started to turn. She is used to being at the feet of Jesus, is she not? In case you don’t remember or have never known, check out the fight between sisters the last time she kneeled at his feet in Luke 10:38–42.
Mary took the alabaster jar of perfume and began to pour it on the feet of Jesus.
She then began to wipe the perfume on His feet with her hair.
You could have heard a pin drop in that room.
The first thing that stirred the room to awareness was the smell. I know for most of us the smell of too much perfume
is a complete turn-off. The scent of this perfume would have been one of peace. A smell you wish you could have with you all the time.
A beautiful fragrance that instantly turned the room into chaos.
Why did Mary do this? This jar of perfume was worth over a
