Indeed many men of knowledge have written more books about leadership
using birds to relate to leadership. Surprisingly, almost these authors use
eagle, the king of birds, as an example of a good leader. That is to say, they
use the seven known important characteristics of eagle to claim that he is a good
leader, despising the other birds especially the hen. Even no one has perhaps
thought about the HEN (female domestic fowl) as being a good leader and for
that matter she need to be studied more than any other bird.
However, Marthus-Adden Zimboiant does not agree that only eagle should
be used as yardstick to measure a good leader. He has perfectly studied the
hen as leader, using both the good and the bad side of the hen to reveal the
behaviours of leaders, especially in the churches today.
What I love on this book is that it tackles everything. Every realistic situation on
every ones life is revealed in this book. After reading this book, it will enlighten
you about both good and bad leaders. For example, it will help you understand
that something you thought it was right will actually prove the opposite. This
book is informative in a way that you will be able to review every bad thing you
did, which will help you make sure you are not going to do that again in the
future. In effect, this book is a self-guide about leadership

The Hen - Marthus-Adden Zimboiant

Part One

The hen is much glowered, wrinkling her forehead as if someone were going to attack her precious children, as she is in the coop with the chicks. She already knows all the predators around the environment. Therefore, she must be very careful that even one of her children is not snatched away by any of the wicked predators.

She has stayed in the coop for five days with the chicks. This time, they are strong enough to control themselves. Therefore she can go out with them. This is because the risk for the predators to get them is minimal. The hen is pacing gradually in order to move outside, as her good-looking children following accordingly. And as she moves, she clucks to call her children to follow her, and this is what they do.

"Children, you know, you are new in the environment. What I am saying is that this world is very dangerous, and that the most important thing to do is the practice of carefulness.

"There are certain animals in this world, which you must always run to wherever I am when you see any of them approaching you. For, they are the very enemies who can cause you to lose your precious lives, which God has given you freely to enjoy in this world of wickedness.

Therefore, beware of the following animals: snakes, hawks, foxes, dogs, cats, and crows. They are the very animals that can swallow you as their meals. Do not also approach fire set by our landlord in this home of ours, okay?

Yes Mama! respond the children in complete obedience.

Another thing, which you guys must take notice of, is this: Wherever I am, there you must be also, and do well to read my pace and follow me closely. Do you hear me?

Yes Mama! We are listening to you in all ears.

But Mama, how will we identify these atrocious bodies you are referring to? the blackest chick inquires about the predators.

Don’t worry, my son. I will, after this precious advice, move with you outside and show you all these, the hen convinces him.

Yes Mama! We are ready to know much from you, Mama, and we are ready, too, to know these predators! suit all the ten chicks.

"Another, don’t defecate haphazardly on the compound of the house, for the children of Landlord are very wicked, though not much like the predators already foretold. But, some of them can pick you up and throw you away, as if there were no blood in you—as if you were a stone!

Make sure we shall be in our sleeping place not beyond six of the clock in the evening, and we must work hard to be able to gather enough food to fill our stomachs to the brim before we go to sleep. Whoever will follow me closely will get a thigh of a grasshopper.

They have all responded in unison and each one says, I will follow you that I may get a thigh of a grasshopper!

"This world! Hmm, this world! May God always protect you… (The hen pauses and sobs and continues, unable to control her tears. But, the chicks do not understand the sobs of their mother).

Children, don’t feel pompous because you think I will protect you; therefore, you will not be afraid of these wicked creatures. I, too, even I, am at risk! the hen breaks out tears, streaming down her cheeks.

The children are disturbed, not knowing what to do. What has come over the hen that she weeps like this before her newly children?

Mama, why are you weeping? And what do you mean by you, too, are at risk? the whitest chick asks her mother in remorse.

Or can these predators you are talking about overcome you? Can they kill you, Mama? asks one of the chicks, also weeping, for she doesn’t understand the wailing of her precious mother.

So Mama, if you weep this way, does it mean that we can’t survive? Shall we die? asks the coloured chicks.

Mama, aren’t we hungry and you are still weeping and you don’t want to take us outside to identify the predators and to eat? one of them interrupts the talks.

Don’t boast in Leadership.

Chapter 1

In fact, you can’t believe your eyes and ears as you look and listen to the hen and her children. All these questions were put simultaneously. Which one should she answer first? She didn’t or couldn’t answer any of the questions posed by her children, but they must move outside to eat!

That is to say, by hook or crook the mother must feed her children. As a matter of fact, the rationale behind the weeping and wailing of the hen is very simple: Though she is a good protector, she herself can be swallowed by some of the predators, especially a fox. A fox can easily cut off the head of the hen. A snake can also bite and kill her. Similarly, a dog can catch her. The children are strangers, and that they don’t know this illegal article.

It is unwise to boast that your superiority is above anyone else in this world. No matter how great you are, you can be overcome by someone. Your superiority exists only by luck. What makes a man strong are the people who are around him stronger than him. In other words, what makes a man strong are the people who are stronger around him. A president is strong because of the stronger people around him. If they are detached from him, even a young hungry man can beat, dethrone, or kill him! That means a strong man is not that strong without the men around him.

As for me, I am surprised about those who use their limited knowledge to mean that they are the best in their fields. Why is it that a minister of God boasts that he is the best healer? Have you forgotten that you don’t hold any power for healing? Do you not know that in Jesus’ name must we command every sickness and disease to come out of a body? Are you ignorant of the fact that such diseases and sicknesses are being manipulated by demons? And without Jesus Christ, can you attack what belongs to a demon and go with impunity? You can’t get away with that! Humility is the heart of leadership. If you are like the hen, then you will think that predators are around, and so the best thing to do is to be guarded by the might of our Lord and Saviour Jesus.

Let us understand this:

Paul a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God which He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, and declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, through whom we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name, among whom you also are the called of Jesus. (Romans 1:1-6)

This is very simple. Paul knew well that his call to be an apostle was only by grace through our Lord Jesus, and for that matter what is next must be obedience, not boasting. It is only Jesus Christ who must be exalted beyond fathom and not any other being else. If you believe that you are called as a minister of God, then you must accept that it is for the obedience to the faith among all nations for His name and only for His name; not for your name. I mean don’t boast in anything you do as far as leadership in the Christian race is concerned.

What I have also realised of leadership in the Christendom is that most ministers compete for large congregation. Therefore, a reverend minister who is said to be great is judged by the size of his congregation. Another way of judging them, and I think is their best yardstick, is academic standard and not spiritual one. Many certificates mean a great pastor. But, they have forgotten that a book is not judged by its cover. A great minister must better be judged by right efforts he puts in to drive the congregation through the channel of heaven and nothing else. If the large congregation don’t know where they are heading towards, then the church is blind. In such churches, I can say that predators have already bitten the ministers, and so the members can easily be swallowed. If academic standards were the yardsticks to detect those who are the greatest in heaven, then Shakespeare would sit on the right side of God, and Jesus on the left. Some people are Peter, but they are great in heaven.

Other ministers boast by the books they write. Some ministers write books only guided by human wisdom, but not the divine wisdom. I mean such people only studied creative writings and became the so-called professional writers, a knowledge not received by a divine intervention but by how to make monies. So, theirs is to get monies, but not how to win souls for our Lord Jesus. It is good to acquire knowledge from creative writings, but it is not good to, as minister of God, delve for profits to beautify your body and to possess things that will be rotten and later gain nothing from them.

It is good to acquire knowledge from creative writing, because a spoken language is not the same as a written one. In other words, what you would say may not appear the same thing on paper. This is because what we just speak is not guided by concords, grammar, punctuations, consistencies, proofreads, among others. Nonetheless, what we write is controlled by these.

Therefore, even if we have God’s knowledge and wisdom to spread the gospel across borders, we can only do so better only by speaking it, not by writing it. That is, if you have not studied well the grammatical characteristics of the English language, then I am afraid that what you intend to mean would not clearly be understood. That is why you better join the Writers Bureau Creative Writing Courses and others, so that what you anticipate to write would expressly be understood by the English readers.

This is my shortcomings in writing this book and the previous ones. I am an untrained writer so my editors have to rack their brains before my books are accepted to be published. Though the God’s knowledge and wisdom are there, how they must be appeared unobstructed on paper is lacking. It is owing to this inadequacy that I have decided to join the students of Writers Bureau.

Nonetheless, mine is not solely to harvest profits for survival, but to be able to declare well what God has for me to be given to the listeners. In other words, my gaining writing skills from Writers Bureau is as a consequence of how I can transform the spoken wisdom of God into a written one, so that the whole world can understand God through our Lord Jesus Christ through books. That is, even if I become weak in speaking aloud as a consequence of old age or other stumbling-blocks, what I have to say can still well be shared among nations. In fact, that is the very reason of trying to join Writers Bureau.

As a matter of fact, the books we sell are the gospels we spread, but not the profits we make. He who is willing to spread the gospel carries the wisdom of our Lord Jesus across borders. Such people are always afraid of the worldly predators. They highly care for the chicks; therefore they are afraid that they themselves be swallowed by the very predators—Satan and his agents. That is, they are never afraid of death, but they are afraid of who will care for their chicks. This must be the sole concern of every minister of God. The same thing was the situation in which the Apostle Paul was when he was advising the Ephesians elders, in the book of the Acts of the Apostles, when he was asked by the Holy Spirit to spread the gospel to Jerusalem, and perhaps die there, saying:

For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God. Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears. (Acts 20:27-30)

You see, Apostle was not afraid of whatever he was going to encounter with in Jerusalem, but he was afraid that after his departure ravenous wolves would go into the members. That alone was his fear. His fear was that Satan would turn their minds away from our Lord Jesus, but not that he would lose much offertory.

Sometimes, I weep like the hen because the chicks of our Lord Jesus Christ are at risk. How the hens are leading them is very risky. They are well exposed to the snatches of hawks and the smashes of dogs and foxes. Today, most ministers are money makers rather than sheep tenders. No wonder Paul perceived that from among the churches men will rise up, speaking such perverse things as men can marry more than one, women wearing men’s attire is not prohibitive, pre-marital sex is highly adorned, abortion is not profane, and the other foolish teachings seesawing in the churches.

Together with the hen let us weep of the risks to our chicks. Our Lord Jesus told Apostle Peter to rear the sheep, not to reap profits from them. He said, after they had finished eating:

Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these? He said to Him, Yes, Lord; You know that I love You. He said to him, Feed My lambs. He said to him again and a second time, Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me? He said to Him, Yes Lord; You Know that I love You. He said to Him, Tend My sheep. He said to him the third time, Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me? Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, Do you love Me? And he said to Him, Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You Jesus said to him, Feed my sheep. Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish. This he spoke, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, Follow Me. (John 21:15-19)

Jesus was seized with remorse not owing to the death of Peter, but in view of who could tend the sheep, who could not boast by the largeness of congregation.

Therefore, every minister of God must think much of, after his or her death, who will tend the congregation. This is the vision of every true man of God. John Wycliffe fought the good fight in view of the ignorant chicks. John Huss and Jerome came in and fought the good fight after the death of Wycliffe simply because the Christians in those days did not even know the first word of the Holy Bible. Everything was God-forbid interpretation to the vulnerable churchgoers! Gone are the days when Martin Luther came in and fought the good fight not in consequence of selling books to make profits in the name of Jesus, but because he was much stressed about the parishioners being laid astray.

Now, what are we doing, the ministers of God today? Let us "Remember therefore from where [we] have fallen; [let us] repent and do the first works, or else [Jesus] will come to [us] quickly and remove [our] lampstand[s] from [their] place—unless [we] repent. (Revelation 2:5)

Let us remember that in the beginning, when we were newly called ministers, when we did not know money, the Spirit of God was upon us. Let us remember that in the beginning, when we had not got married, when we did not know the love for women, we had been praying continually. Let us remember that in the beginning, when we had not been able to heal a single soul, when even we wanted God to heal us instead, we were humble before God. Let us remember that in the beginning, when we did not have special friends in the church, when we believed the fact that churching was not friendship, we were sober, and we attended church regularly. Let us remember that in the beginning, when we were not courting women, when we believed then that such steps were unnecessary, we were in the prayer tower forever, and we did never miss Bible Studies.

Now, the advice is that we should remember these, for we are now not doing them, and stick to them once again; if not our body will be empty set—no Holy Spirit in us. Do not let us be loaded with such unnecessary activities as Church Football team, Youth Dinner, Get Together, Tourism that has nothing to do with the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ, The Beauty Among The Youth, among others. To me, they are the predators among the churches today to swallow the newly hatched chicks of God. If you use any of these methods to win souls, then you have still won sinners for Satan; the only difference is that these sinners are being reared in the house of God other than in the kingdom of Satan.

Chapter 2

They are now on the compound. The hen spreads her wings as if they were to cover the chicks as she moves with them. You can identify her head never still as she rotates it one eighty degrees to see if an enemy is coming, that she may fight to protect her precious ones in this world. At the same time, she is finding some foods for the children as she trudges along, and as the chicks follow her obediently. Thus, the chicks have stuck to her words when she was giving them that important advice.

As she moves, she calls her children with that motherly sound to follow her accordingly. And the chicks obey. Sometimes, you can see that the hen is separated about five meters away from the chicks, and when she realizes that, she generates a loud noise, and on hearing that the chicks run to her.

Immediately, the hen has generated a striking sound—quaa!—and the chicks have randomly scattered, much afraid. This time you can observe the hen mad around the environment, looking up and down, and sideways, and moving to and fro. What is it that she has seen that has caused her to shout like this? But, isn’t it something? It is the hawk!

The hen can see the hawk far away in the sky with a certain object drilled in her legs. Therefore, the hen must quickly call back her children and see if any is missing.

Precious ones! Where are you?

Yes Mama! Here we are!

Are you alright? Are you hurt?

Mama, we feel good!

Come out from your hiding places! For, the Lord has been with you. Come and let me check your number!

Yes Mama, we are coming!

You see, the hen is a good caring mother. She always long for her children. She wishes that all her children survived. She does not hate any. She loves them as she does herself. She has been suffering since the time she laid the eggs until she hatched them and up to this, she has been nurturing them. Therefore she must labour for them.

Even the hen loves her children, because she says that she suffered before getting them. How much more our Lord Jesus Christ who preciously died for our sins! Therefore, even if the hen is protecting her precious ones from predators, will our Lord allow the Devil to swallow you? To be frank, He is one and only one whose superiority is above all powers. Amen.

The Hen longs for the Lost One

All the chicks have come out of their hiding places, and are around their mother, breathing violently. The hen has started counting them: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9… What a surprise! Where is the other one? She has started counting them once again, and still they are nine. What a hell! She has broken out, weeping helplessly: O my son! O my son! My son where are you? Where are you, my precious one? May the Lord God save your soul. For, I believe Hawk has snatched you away to make you a meal for her with her precious children. My son, stay cool in the world of the dead! My son! O my son!

You see, how the hen yearns for the only one lost child! She is weeping bitterly for the one who is lost. She is unable to control her sobs. A hell has come over her.

However, let bygone be bygone. What the mouse has eaten, leave him alone; what is left is to be protected. Will she leave the rest alone to go hungry? Or will she allow them to also be snatched away? No! This is impossible. She must still lead the rest for food. This time, the protection for her precious ones is very strong. A great care is being taken, so that the remained ones are also not finished.

It is now six p.m., and that all the nine chicks are following the steps of their mother like an army line into their sleeping places. They are happy as they set forth the compound, though one is missing.

Chapter 3

Here is where we must challenge ourselves as ministers of God. How the chicks are led is the main subject of the ministerial work. Therefore, if you are a minister of God and you do not know how to lead the congregation, then I am afraid, I must tell you that you bought the position; you were not gifted in it.

A good shepherd always knows the number of his sheep. He also knows their conditions; he knows those who are physically strong or weak. He can identify any by its colour or form. That shepherd always counts them when they are on the wilderness and when they have come back home. And when he detects that one is missing, he quickly goes back to the wilderness to find its whereabouts. This point is well-explained by our Lord Jesus, saying:

What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little should perish. (Matthew 18:12-14)

You see, this is the very reason a minister is called, that is, to gather the congregation under his or her wings. Such a minister does not have any other business
