God has given us many wonderful stories about people like us who seem so ordinary, but their character and lives became extraordinary. Can God really use us after weve blown it? Do you feel more like a dark cloud than salt and light? That pain and crisis in your life can be the sandpaper God uses to shape you into the person He designed you to be. Dont give up. He never gives up on you!
Sometimes after sin or tragedy seems to have destroyed our life, we find it hard to imagine that the future holds anything good. That is a lie from Satan. God can use our life experiences to remold us into stronger, kinder, and more compassionate people. God has a plan and a purpose for your life. Discover what that purpose is and have an abundant, meaningful life. You are so loved!
Life Lessons from God recounts biblical as well as personal stories of how God uses everyday people like you and me to do His kingdom work. Dont accept a life without joy and peace. Jesus can teach us how to be His hands and feet in a hurting world. Your mission field is probably not around the world; it is right in front of your face. Go with God (Vaya con Dios)!

Introduction
This book was written to encourage you when you become discouraged. Life can be hard, a real roller coaster, but you can have peace and joy in your life that makes every day special. I have had many joys and adventures and many sorrows and pain; but Jesus has been with me through all of them.
He is as real now as the days he walked in Jerusalem. There are more books written about Him and the evidence of His life than any other person who lived on this earth. His power and love remain with us in the form of the Holy Spirit. Not everyone has the Holy Spirit in them because you have to invite Him in. He does not force His way in, but lovingly and patiently knocks on the door of your heart asking to come in. Ask any Christian who is passionately seeking to follow Jesus and His will for their life; there is a difference when we ask Jesus into our hearts, minds, and lives.
There is no mystery in what we are to do or how we are to do it. God did not leave us with a quick love note, but a novel of love, drama, history and amazement called the Bible. The Bible tells us if we seek Him, we will find Him (1 Chronicles 28:9). If you come near to God, He will come near to you (James 4:8). The Bible is God’s guide for our lives. Each commandment He gives us is because He loves us. Not one of them is to stop us from having fun, but on the contrary is to keep us from hurting ourselves or others. God’s way is always the right way.
I have known three lovely young women who needlessly died because they gave up on themselves. They realized they had strayed from the path they should have been walking, and in guilt and shame; their lives were ended. My heart aches for the lives they could have had. God’s grace and mercy are new every morning. It is never too late to start over again. There are people and places waiting to help you. Churches, Rescue Missions and many programs are in the business of giving hope to the hopeless.
Maybe you feel your family and friends have turned their backs on you. Sometimes love must be tough when you have consistently done things which are detrimental to yourself and to others. If you have been living in a way that is harmful to yourself and those around you, you have to find a new way to live. The gospel is the good news that Jesus died for sinners like you and me. Jesus can give you the courage and strength to start your life over.
This may not be the first time you have disappointed yourself and others, but get up and try again to live life as God intended. You will find that God’s ways may not be the easiest, but they are the best. Maybe you are embarrassed by what you have done in the past; but you can have a new future. In the Bible, there were times when peoples’ lives were so completely changed that God gave them a new name. He can do that for you. Turn your back on the old ways that caused heartache and pain and learn to reflect the light of Jesus in the darkness and be salt to preserve what is good. Be who God created you to be.
Don’t give up on yourself. God doesn’t give up on you!
Acknowledgments
I would like to thank the ladies I have met and shared life with at the House of Hope. In my years of coming to encourage and bless you, I have been blessed. The time I have spent with women of all ages and cultures has shown me that there are always more things we share that connect us than the differences that separate us. Your kindness and love is always appreciated.
My husband, John, has graciously accepted the countless hours it took me to compose these stories and bits of wisdom to share with you.
My daughter, Tracy, is the beat of my heart and has always been so loving, encouraging and caring through this roller coaster we call life.
Life is so much better when we can share the joys and trials. A big thank you goes to my family and friends for helping to make my life so much richer.
Chapter 1
Miracles from God
Sometimes when heartbreaking events occur in our lives we wonder how a loving God could have allowed them to happen. When our second daughter died 5 ½ months into my pregnancy, it didn’t seem possible that God would allow that. My pregnancy had had problems, but as an optimistic person, I was sure that our baby would be fine.
The device that was supposed to have prevented me from getting pregnant (a CU7) had dislodged. When I found I was pregnant and the doctor tried to remove it, it recoiled with a slingshot affect, and moved up into the uterus instead of coming out. I was told that I only had a 50% chance of carrying our baby to term, but I was sure we would be in the positive 50%. During the pregnancy there had been spotting and I was hospitalized to try to prevent a miscarriage from occurring.
My husband, John, knew I was having a hard time after the second hospital stay and suggested we travel to visit his cousins. I love people and my spirits are always raised when we can spend time with family and friends. I was feeling fine and had gone to the restroom before we left to take the kids to the zoo. My umbilical cord had been severed by the CU7 and was exposed when I went to the restroom. I was taken to a nearby hospital and was told the baby was dead, but I was so far along in the pregnancy that I would need to go through labor and deliver our stillborn child.
This delivery was so different than when our first daughter was born. There was no gathering of happy family with smiles and cheer. I was put in a room with a nurse monitoring me. The doctor came in and our tiny daughter was delivered. I wasn’t given the opportunity to hold her or name her. She was placed in a bed pan and I was allowed a short time to stare at the tiny but perfect baby. I saw all the tiny fingers and toes and her little button nose. She was perfect. Our daughter was whisked away and I was taken to surgery because the placenta had not delivered. It was late at night and my husband had already gone to put our other daughter, Tracy, to bed at his cousin’s home.
The hospital was crowded and the only available room had one adjoining wall connected to the nursery. I could hear the other babies and the oohs and aahs of the new parents and grandparents. When I was returned to my room, I cried for the child I would never know. A kind nurse came in and comforted me and reminded me of the blessing I had by already having another child to love. I was thankful, but I was also so sad that I would never get to
