    W. Ruben Exantus, Ph.D. is an international educator and leadership consultant. He is known as a leader in organization and management and conducts research in leadership, strategic management, and ethics. He is the founder and pastor of Grace Baptist Church of Apopka, FL and managing director of Rex Institute for Research and Leadership Development. Most of Exantus’ work has been devoted to providing nurture and guidance to Christians, whether young or old in the faith; they have become over the years the center of his ministerial work. He constantly writes on leadership issues and Bible study guides, which give practical help to many of the people who attend his study sessions. He has studied at Northeastern University of Boston, Massachusetts, Gordon-Conwell theological seminary, Luther Rice Theological Seminary, and Capella University where he obtained advanced degrees in engineering, theology, and organization and management with a specialty in leadership respectively. Exantus is a scholar in the field of spiritual leadership with certifications in clinical pastoral education (CPE). He lives with his family in the northwest of Orlando, Florida.

Its streamlined approach will appeal to those pastors who want an authoritative account of pastoral leadership competencies. This book on pastoral burnout and leadership styles is dedicated to helping pastors, candidates for pastoral ministry, and individuals who want to have a better understanding of pastoral leadership.

      The fundamental purpose of Pastoral Burnout and Leadership Styles is to assist pastors, candidates for pastoral ordination, and individual Christian leaders alike in furthering their abilities to lead others and get great things done for the Lord. Whether you’re a volunteer, a part-time paid minister, or a pastor on the front line in full-time ministry, this book has been written to help you develop your capacity to guide others to reach new heights. This book revealed the factors that influence stress, burnout, and ministry turnover among Southern Baptist pastors in Central Florida. The central premise is that spiritual formation and Biblical training address the knowledge that pastors need to prevent pastoral burnout and ministry turnover. An important aspect of the book is to provide perceptions that stress, burnout, and lack of leadership development are perceived to be a path leading to ministry turnover. It appears that the majority of the seminaries do not provide adequate preparation for pastoral leadership development, and the Southern Baptist Convention does not provide sufficient training to pastors aiming at helping them to cope with ministry stress and burnout prevention.

      Introduction

      T his book is designed to create sustained conversations about pastoral burnout and leadership styles of pastors within the Southern Baptist Convention and other denominations across the United States and around the world. This conversation about pastoral burnout and leadership styles will help you understand the factors that cause burnout and shape leadership development for evangelical pastors in the United States.

      Many people believe that being a pastor is among the world’s most honorable professions. Pastoral ministry constitutes the highest privilege for those who profess the Christian faith. Nothing could be more honorable or have greater eternal significance than serving God in His church. However, fulfilling this privilege and discharging the pastoral responsibilities demands a lot of sacrifices and a thorough comprehension of the church and those who fill its pews. Furthermore, historically, persons who entered the ministry were most likely to spend the rest of their lives in it. Thus, leaving pastoral ministry was considered inconceivable to a faithful person. Today, however, it is not uncommon that a minister voluntarily leaves the church or otherwise is forced out by his own congregational body. Since the mid-1980s, the
