About this ebook
None of us is guaranteed to live through tomorrow, and there is no secret knowledge on things we can or might do or avoid to make our lives easier or have purpose. Many people in our society who search for meaning in life and find none turn to drugs, alcohol, materialism, or power. Moreover, Islam is growing in popularity among the young and poor of the world, with many turning to the violent side of Islam. Our society and nation is experiencing moral decay with no easy solutions. Those who choose to follow Christ are seeing the beginning of persecution, as society is trying to silence any knowledge of Jesus.
In this book there are several passages from Scripture, along with commentary on each, that we should consider and act upon, as they deal with many of the basic issues of life that we all must face as we go forward in life.
D M Theriot
This is D. M. Theriot’s first attempt at writing a manuscript. By personality, he is a very quiet person who does a lot of thinking. This was helpful, as was his prayer time and his relationship with God. Furthermore, he received a bachelor of arts degree from a seminary college. Yet he is convinced it was the quiet time and prayer that led to his penning this short work. He has learned from this experience that spending a lot of time in thought may help in writing books, yet it can cause one to miss out on quality time with one’s family. Fortunately, his family has been very supportive in the time to work on this book. His having been born and raised in the South, which is commonly known as the Bible Belt, has led to many opportunities to experience many different denominational practices at life and worship. He did belong to a non-denominational community for many years, and it really opened his eyes to different ways of worship and living life, specifically the awareness and feeling of a close knit community.

Renewing of the Mind
Romans 12: 1-2
"I urge you, then brothers, remembering the mercies of God, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, dedicated and acceptable to God; that is the kind of worship for you, as sensible people. Do not model your behavior on the contemporary world, but let the renewing of your minds transform you, so that you may discern for yourselves what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and mature."¹
The passage quoted above has more than one suggestion in it. However, I want to offer thoughts on renewing of your minds which will transform you. Our God in his infinite wisdom knows that if we read His word, study it, meditate on it, memorize it and so on it will most likely be absorbed and become a part of us. I think theologians will want us to believe that we help to form our conscience in this way. This is very important! All of our actions throughout our lives are judged and weighed by what is in our conscience. Thus, the end result of this study and reflection will be a renewed mind and ultimately, a changed life for us. Our awesome God knows what can happen through this and wants it for us, for our good. For this reason, reflecting on God’s word and much time spent in prayer are the dynamic for life change. James Hanigan in his book, As I have Loved You, The Challenge Of Christian Ethics describes it this way, "Prayer can, however, deepen our motivation and strengthen our desire to do God’s will, give form to our attitudes and intentions, and provide confirmation or challenge to decisions we have made and now offer to God in prayer. For if it is in the depths of conscience that we are alone with God, the prayer of personal communion is an essential part of all conscientious decision-making. By the same token, all conscientious decision-making is, explicitly or implicitly, an encounter with God and a form of the prayer of personal
