About this ebook
If God wanted a robot body, he'd get Leslie to built it. A fastidious engineer, Leslie has nearly ensouled his latest machine with the most humanlike and ideal traits ever achieved. But while he passes the brink of creating divine sentience, a slovenly and inept government spy interferes with the project. The clumsy watcher, whom Leslie dubs Mr. Potbelly, has gotten close enough to destroy the delicate brain networks perfect enough for God himself.
Morose about his overprotective family and the meddlesome, galling spies, Leslie must test himself and the cosmos. He must see if his lifelong suspicions of providence have come true. The enmity between himself and the spies could result in deadly karma or worse: a miracle that proves Leslie only exists to create the Second Coming.
If you love roboticists, get "The Fortunate Man" now for the almighty plan God devised in a tech noir future.

LESLIE WALKED THROUGH the Public Gardens trying to think of a name for the spy who watched him on weekdays. He settled on Mr. Potbelly. In Leslie’s field of robotics, he had learned how to spot tiny details without even trying. This became a nuisance when the spies entered his life, as Mr. Potbelly’s details looked anything but tiny.
Today Mr. Potbelly sat on a park bench with his forearms displaying mostly hair. A bear of a man, but with more fur on his back, he filled his T-shirt with mostly paunch. A baseball cap turned the sun away from his shades and only partway off his blocky face. The cap looked too tight, as though melded to his sweaty head for life. On his wrist he had a faded tattoo of a watch. Funny. Hip too.
Leslie took a windier path than usual through the Public Gardens. Mr. Potbelly faced him the whole trip. Both men had tried changing wardrobes two months ago to lose one another, and both had given up. Leslie now wore his frumpy slacks and sport coat again, the vestiges of his academia days. The blob on the bench had reverted to the plainclothesman priesthood once his snazzy disguises stopped mattering. A real chase would require skipping provinces, and no one wanted that.
