Strategies for Developing Speech & Language Skills
Introduction
Early communication between you and your child is essential and begins as early as birth. It’s important to know how to get your child ready for school long before their first ride on a school bus. This book will provide you with creative ideas to help enhance your child’s language skills during the early years. It has many stimulating activities and games that are developmentally appropriate for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. There are animal games, musical sing-a-long games, counting and matching games, story time games, listening games and so much more. These games can be played when you and your child have a few extra minutes during daily routines, whenever you are on the go, or anytime you simply want to have fun together.
In addition, you will find developmental language milestones from birth to 5 years because so many language skills are acquired during this important expanding period in your child’s life. A compilation of all the strategies and techniques I was taught and use with children in my workplace are also presented within the assorted activities and games included in this book.
Although children will acquire language at a different rate due to individual differences, your child can naturally learn and develop various communication skills from birth to age five. This development can take place within a language rich environment in conjunction with using specific techniques that will help encourage and stimulate your child’s language growth. Good luck to you and your child as you interact together and remember to keep on talking!
Finally, many thanks go out to all the children who have brought so much joy into my life and who have given me the opportunity to pass along this little handbook of fun activities and games.
