Sun throws a bone
slides it on cirrus
just before sunset

parhelion paints
twin irridescent patches
in mackerel sky

Quickly, Sundog!
catch a bite
of the rainbow

    About the Author

    Introduction

There are as many ways to dream

As there are people, it may seem

    Sleeping dreams

    Waking dreams

    Flying dreams

    Underwater dreams

    Falling dreams

    Running dreams

    Recurring dreams

    Nightmarish dreams

    Inventive dreams

    Inspired dreams

    Using alpha, beta, gamma,

    Theta and delta brain waves

You can travel to almost any place

You can dream that you’re lighter than air,

You can be here, but also there…

You can go to deep space or deep within,

You can even wear a different skin

Dreams allow us to go between,

To see what is not usually seen,

Dreams invite us to go beyond…

    Gently dissolving every bond

    The language of dreams

    can be symbolic,

    Silent, muddled, or symphonic,

Colorful, or in black and white,

Dreams are quick as a flash

    Or can take all night

But the best dreams of all

    Are those of Love,

They transport your soul far above

    and beyond your earthly self,

To a place where nothing else

    Separates you from the Whole

That’s the place that we call Home

    Always listen to your dreams,

    Maria B.

I would like to thank my family and friends for their inspiration, encouragement, and interest in my poems. I appreciate all of you.

    Sunstruck

    I was exploring a canyon

or maybe it was a crater

It was hot, dry, and rocky…

    Sun wouldn’t set until later

I came up to an edge

    where it was steep below

I was so scared of falling

    that all I know

Is I grabbed onto a rock

the Sun was in my eyes

    I couldn’t move a muscle

    I was petrified

    My eyelids clamped shut

and my ears heard no sound

I couldn’t move forward or back up

I was stuck to the ground

I could see orange through my eyelids

but it was just too bright!

    Dull fear soon grew

    into full-fledged fright

I could turn my head, but

I couldn’t seem to get away

    From the piercing, fierce glare

    of the Sun’s powerful rays

I took some comfort in the rock

    that I desperately clung onto

But I couldn’t stay this way long

    even if I’d wanted to

Would something sneak up on me

and push me over and down?

Would I be able to scream

as I fell to the ground?

So, this is how fear tastes…

how it grabs you in the gut

    And won’t let you move—

    or even stand up

    Frozen with fear,

    immovable and stuck,

    I couldn’t believe

    I’d become a rock

    I couldn’t cover my eyes

    to shade the Sun’s rays

    Because my hands wouldn’t move

    —so I started to pray

"Help! If this is a dream,

    please wake me up now—

I’m stuck out here on this edge

    and I don’t know how

    To loosen my fingers

    or open my eyes,

    I can’t hear a thing—"

    and then to my surprise

    A very small voice,

    inside or outside my head,

    Laughed at my overblown

    sense of dread:

"If you don’t like it here,

    think of another place—

    Where there is no fear,

    in other time and space—

    "Go there in your mind

    and your body will follow,

Be in more than one place

    —you’ll see it’s allowed"

"Be in two places at once?

    You’ve got
