How to Play Piano - Jason Randall

An Introduction to the Piano

The piano is a marvellous musical instrument which is played by musicians all over the world. The piano is considered to be a globally played musical instrument as it is recognized in many countries for its beautiful sound that has a universal tone. The piano was originally an acoustic instrument which meant that it did not need electricity to produce sound. The piano originates from Italy and is regarded to have been made by Bartolomeo Cristofori who was a maker of musical instruments. The piano is rumoured to have been invented by Cristifori in the late 1690's.

Three of Cristofori’s original creations have survived the test of time and are believed to date back to the 1720’s. Since then many great musicians and composers have mastered the art of playing the piano including some such as Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Listz, Frédéric Chopin and Victor Borge.

The piano is usually seen as a large box-like instrument which stands stationary to the ground with a certain amount of supportive legs. Pianos come in many shapes and sizes as there are many variants of this musical instrument. The ones most commonly used and played are the grand piano, the upright piano, and the electric piano. Acoustic pianos, such as the grand piano and the upright piano, are usually made from materials such as woods, metals, and leathers. Electric pianos are usually made from lighter materials such as plastics and metals which make it more of a portable version of the piano.
