Introduction
I want to thank you and congratulate you for downloading Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: The Definitive Guide to Understanding Your Brain, Depression, Anxiety and How to Overcome It.
Depression and anxiety are two very difficult behavioral conditions for patients suffering from their negative effects. They are both difficult to identify and to treat. There are a range of medications and behavioral therapy treatments available, but each method comes with their own challenges, and what might work for one person could prove to be utterly ineffective for another. Compounding the complexity of this issue is the inherent scale on which these problems exist; what could prove to be debilitating for one person is just an inconvenience for another. To share an experience of what depression or anxiety truly feels like is impossible, and often the treatment takes so long to be effective that the sliding scale of improvement makes true analysis of one’s progress troublesome.
I decided to write this book to give readers insight into the larger issues surrounding depression and anxiety. I have been suffering with these conditions all my life, and have tried nearly every technique available to try and improve my mental health. Today I live a healthy life, a steady life, but this was not easily obtained. Through all of my treatments, seeing different doctors in separate branches of the medical community, I’ve come to the realization that there is a first step in combating anxiety and depression, understating. A patient must realize the base root of their anxiety and depression for them to ever get a true handle on how to treat it. This will not make every problem of theirs go away, but it will make the overall process of treatment much easier.
Understanding the mechanics of the human brain in how they relate to anxiety and depression is paramount to being able to improve one’s life. This does not need to be a complicated affair, but rather human history needs to be put into perspective of how humans evolved and how mental health conditions came more prominent with advances in technology and ever-progressive social constructs.
Once you have an understanding for how the human brain has come to terms with anxiety and depression in the modern era, you can more effectively treat these mental health concerns. The advice I offer is practical, and comes down to regimenting our bodies in a way similar to our ancestry. It is my hope that by the completion of this book you have a better understanding of what causes anxiety and depression, as well as have a toolbox for how to overcome and treat these illnesses.
If anxiety and depression have proven to be a point of difficulty in your life, then look no further. Keep reading and in a few chapters you will have a better understanding of complex background that affects these conditions; you will have strategies for how to minimize the impact of these mental health concerns, and you will feel confident that you can take your life back into your own hands.
