Chapter 1
Why Our World is Full of Undiscovered Introverts
Before we dive into the contents of embracing the social life, let me inform you that if you are a shy introvert reading this (in which I assume you are), that I too was once like you. I showed up to parties by myself before any of my friends would arrive. I would sit on my phone or go to the bathroom to kill time and avoid any mingling and awkward conversation.
For shy people like my past self and you, interacting with others can cause major anxiety and can be a stomach churner. This is how I can tell you straight up that the strategies in this book work because I used them myself to become much more comfortable in speaking and getting to know other people.
Your friends and family, as well as others who know you well, probably would not use the word shy
to describe you. You are here because you find connecting with people you do not know challenging and somewhat daunting. You fear all the unfamiliarity and are afraid of being rejected or judged. Now, there is nothing wrong with this feeling since it is quite natural. But it becomes an issue when it begins to drastically affect your everyday life and leave you unable to control it.
There are a few things that shy people, in particular, know well:
The feeling of uneasiness when in a room full of strangers
That listening becomes an activity that is second nature
The awkward pause to think before speaking
The annoying feeling that occurs when referred to as introverted
Cringing when someone says, speak up
Wanting to explain to others that being more outgoing
is not an overnight skill
Knowing that they could be an awesome leader if only they were more well-spoken
Taking a liking to the sidelines rather than the spotlight
Having everyone consider their shyness to be an issue when it is not
To be frank, living with the characteristics above, well, sucks! You know you have potential but are unable to communicate that to others and that is a profoundly negative feeling and not a great way to live life by any means. That is why I decided to create and share this book, because a very large number of people are exactly like my past self. I know it is possible to become more outgoing in a positive way and to craft your life into the best version possible.

Factors that Cause Shyness
So, now we will touch on the fact of why shy people act the way they do and take a peek at the psychology behind shyness and the reasoning behind it all.
If you are trying to stop reading and pinpoint where in your life that shyness started to take over, you will have a difficult time finding it. That is because shyness has no one cause and is typically a concoction of various factors that influence your tendency to be apprehensive and anxious. The heavy feeling of insecurity is created by both nurture and nature and changes drastically in many ways as people grow older and live through different experiences.
This is the main reason that people remain in a shy state of mind for their entire life. This means that levels of shyness have the potential to rise and fall throughout the course of one’s life.
Common causes of shyness can be any of the following or a combination of these, as well as others that are not mentioned:
Life transitions: moving to college, employed at a new job, divorce, etc.
Faulty perception of self
Experience of harsh treatment at any point in life beforehand
The Blooming of Shyness at an Early Age
There is no specific gene for shyness that children are born with. Young kids, however, can
