35 Yummy Vegetarian Slow Cooker Recipes - Jasmine Hawley

    Sauté

    Introduction

The slow cooker is the perfect choice for your one-pot meal. It can be used for preparing a variety of dishes. Virtually anything can be sumptuously prepared with your slow cooker. Meals for vegetarians are no exception. Granted that some of us lead very busy lives, we can still enjoy delicious, lip-smacking, healthy vegetarian foods that are easy and quick to make.

    Choosing your slow cooker

Size:  Various sizes are available in the market. Your choice should depend on the recipe and number of people you will be cooking for.  Follow the recipes listed, they will let you know the quart size needed for the meal you want to cook.

The Lid: Choose a tight-fitting transparent lid so you can see the food while cooking. This will prevent you from opening the lid for a quick peek while the food is being prepared thereby releasing a lot of heat.

Shape: The oval-shaped slow cooker enables you to fit in large ingredients while the round slow cooker is suitable for stews, soups and chilis.

Detachable Inserts: Cleaning a slow cooker with detachable inserts is easier and more convenient than a whole-piece component. The inserts should be cooled and washed so as to prevent them from getting cracked.

Programmable timers:  Slow cookers with this extra feature make cooking very convenient especially if you intend to spend all day away from the house. When the cooking is completed, the timer operates automatically to switch the cooker to the warm setting

    Slow cooking tips

Cooking times can be regulated to accommodate higher altitudes. Vegetables should be cut in very small pieces. Verify the temperature of the food with a thermometer to guarantee the safety of consumption.

Refuse to give in to the urge to stir. When you open the lid, you release plenty of heat which increases the cooking time.

Be consistent in the way you cut your vegetables in order to make them cook evenly.

If you are not in a hurry, it is better to cook on low mode because it is more likely to result in moist, tender and flavor- rich meals.

Do not overcrowd your slow cooker. Fill it half to two-thirds full. This ensures an evenly cooked food.

Stick to the directions and the precise order of applying ingredients in order
