    CHAPTER ONE  WHY HANS HOLZER

No history of the world’s greatest paranormal investigators would be complete without including Hans Holzer. He will rank as one of the more controversial topics because of some of his over the top claims and the number of books that he penned himself.

It is an interesting fact that he, like the Warrens, investigated the house where what has become known as the Amityville horror took place. It seems that this place attracts paranormal investigators as intensely as it attracts evil.  Holzer’s investigation of that location and the conclusions that he came to will be the main focus of this book for no other reason that it is the most familiar story to the average reader.

    - A ghost is a human being who has passed out of the physical body, usually in a traumatic state and is not aware usually of his true condition. We are all spirits encased in a physical body. At the time of passing, our spirit body continues into the next dimension. A ghost, on the other hand, due to trauma, is stuck in our physical world and needs to be released to go on. ― Hans Holzer

Before the Ghost hunters arrived on the sci-fi channel, before anyone heard of Ed and Lorraine Warren there was Hans Holzer. Some said that he was the one who coined the phrase Ghost Hunter. Where ever there was the possibility of a haunting he showed up following a lifelong quest to document the existence of spirits. Hans Holzer was a man who did not like the idea that he was investigating what was referred to as the supernatural, he always considered himself a scientific investigator of the paranormal. So because of this his work in the field put into place the structure by which most modern investigators work.

In this book we are going to examine the career of this brilliant investigator. A career highlighted by his Amityville investigation. Although Ed and Lorraine Warren are more closely associated by the public to this investigation it was Hans Holzer who first attempted to discover the secrets that the Amityville house held. His believe that the crimes committed there were more than just a man murdering his family started an investigation that goes on until today.

There are paranormal investigators that pre-date Hans Holzer, but if there is one person who can be called the godfather of the ghost hunters it is Hans. He wore the title of Ghost Hunter as a badge of honor and because of him millions of people worldwide now take this profession seriously.

Thank you for picking up this book and let’s begin with the most obvious question. Since most paranormal investigators are classified as parapsychologist we need to answer first what is parapsychology?

    CHAPTER TWO - UNDERSTANDING PARAPSYCHOLOGY

Parapsychology is a field of study concerned with the investigation of paranormal and psychic phenomena.

There are many people that believe in special powers. There are some people that claim to be able to communicate with the dead and even see into the future. Parapsychology is the study of interactions between living things and their environment that seem to surpass the laws of nature. There are five main areas that fall under the study of parapsychology.

Parapsychology looks at telepathy and the way people are able to communicate from mind to mind without verbalizing their thoughts. Some people are said to be able to communicate with others by sharing their thoughts. This field also studies clairvoyance of remote viewing. This means that a person will know objects or people in a different place and a different time. For example a person may be able to know physical features of a room from the past. They can describe exactly what it looked like without any prior knowledge.

Parapsychology also studies precognition which is the knowledge of events and happenings that has not yet occurred or has occurred in the distant past. This information can that be used in the present. A person will be able to future events as well and prepare for these events. Some of them can even see unpleasant things that are said to happen in the future.

People that are able to use parapsychology are able to have psychokinesis where they can interact with things at a distance. This includes interacting with all different types of energy matter. A person can also look at survival studies and examine how the human spirit functions when it is outside of the physical body. This is an interesting field and for many people that believe in this and are willing to find science to support it; this field is interesting to study.

There are some famous parapsychologists who made notable studies in the field. Carlos Alvardo has a PhD in this field and he conducted his research at both the University of Virginia as well as Atlantic University. He would focus on the study of psychic experiences and people that have had these experiences. He also studies psychical research. His research and findings helped him become the President of the Parapsychological Association and his work in this field is still well respected.

Ian Baker is another well-known parapsychologist. He is a professor of Psychology and Parapsychology at the University of Derby. His research and area of expertise is in remote staring. He is also one of the heads of the European Journal of Parapsychology and publishes his research.

    John Beloff

Beloff was one of the first people to study parapsychology and make a name for himself in this field. He helped to set up the Koestler Chair of Parapsychology at Edinburgh University. It took a little while for people to take his work seriously but now he is very well respected. He was also the president of the Society for Psychical Research.

Dick J Bierman has a PhD in the field of parapsychology. He shares his knowledge with others at both the University of Utrecht and the University of Amsterdam. He is a physicist as well as a parapsychologist. His research focuses on the relationship between quantum physics and human consciousness. He has been able to develop true random generations to conduct his work. He is also a member of the Global Consciousness Project.

    William G Braud

This parapsychologist also has a PhD in the field. He is a professor at the Institute of Psychology which is part of Sofia University. His research focused on the transpersonal psychology as well as parapsychology. He is considered to be an expert on exceptional human experiences, alternative ways of thinking and knowing, and different as well as expanded research methods to really understand the human mind.

Parapsychology is an interesting field of study. Many people are skeptical of dealing with matters that they cannot see and the idea that people can have experiences with other time periods and people that have past. These parapsychologists are conducting research to prove this field is accurate and people are really able to have these experiences. Parapsychology is an interesting field to study and can provide valuable information about how the human brain works and what humans are capable of.

CHAPTER THREE  SYBIL LEEK – WITCH AND PSYCHIC

Sybil Leek was one of the most famous witches in Britain, if not the world. From a young age, Leek wasn't afraid to talk openly about her beliefs, her psychic abilities and the spirits she's encountered. Her fearlessness and eccentric personality made her an unforgettable figure, who would eventually be dubbed Britain's most famous witch by the BBC. Prior to her death in 1982, Leek penned more than 60 books about witchcraft and the paranormal and became a well-known public figure, due in part to her collaboration with well-known paranormal investigator Hans Holzer.

Sybil Leek's life reads like a story in itself. From a pet
