The Journey Beyond Seven Values of the Kingdom - Cheryl A. Matsen-Nieves

    Kingdom

Frogeye was the first to awaken, yawning and rubbing his eye. He stretched out his arms and legs and thought, now that will limber me up for a good day’s worth of hops! And hop he quickly did, over to Raphael and Haniel. So, what’s on the agenda for today? Frogeye asked with excitement. What can a frog expect? Can’t wait to get myself croaked up over the day’s activities!

We need to travel through the second stone and geode, Frogeye. Are you with us? Raphael asked.

Mother of frogs, Raphael! That stone was traumatizing! I don’t know if I can take another stone ride. I need to consult my webs on this and get back to you, Raphael.

Why don’t you take some time on your pad to think, Frogeye? You will make the right choice. Of this I am certain. Go quickly now to your pad, Frogeye, and stress no more.

Just thinking about another stone ride made Frogeye hop fast and furious. Where’s the nearest pad? he wondered. I’d even veg out on a leaf right about now. This has my webs all stressed out. Frogs don’t like pressure! Frogeye spotted a leaf in the distance and hopped right on it. Ahhhh! he sighed with relief. I can chill at last! Frogeye laid down and closed his eye. He decided to spend some time meditating, with the hope of reaching a decision, when suddenly he heard the voice.

No worries, my little prince. I will help you travel through all the stones and geodes. No harm will come to you! This I promise, said the soft voice from the heavens.

Croaks a toads-a-moly! Every time I hear your voice, it pushes me over the pad! And, it makes me question my coping and decision-making skills, Frogeye said.

I am so sorry you feel this way. That is not my intention. I am here to help and guide you on your journey. Rest assured, my prince, the universe has sent me to be with you in your time of need. When you reach the castle, you will understand why, and thank me!

"I’m not so sure about this. How can I trust someone I can’t see? Some words you say, like universe and castle, I understand and trust. But other words, well, uh, I’m not so sure … and I mean you no disrespect."

I have protected you from harm and will always continue to do so. Please go and tell Raphael that you will travel with him. You are safe!

Frogeye spent some more time on the leaf to think over what the voice in his head was saying. He thought long and hard before making his decision. She has a point. She has protected me from harm and danger. Maybe she isn’t my enemy. If I am going to fix my fear, I have to go through that stone with the voice. If she is what she says she is, then she will get me through the stone. If she is what she says she is, she will protect me as I go. I have to fix this fear if I am going to be of use to Raphael and Haniel. I can’t let them down!

Frogeye decided to hop on over to the indigo stone and get himself through the opening. He sized up the hole Wolvarith had dug and said, I can do this. That hole is huge for a frog. What was I worried about? Frogeye decided to take a few steps back so he could get a good running hop with height to propel him through the hole. He ran fast and furious before hopping into the hole. Down he plummeted into the darkness, across time and another dimension. He could feel the turbulence as he bounced from one side to the other through the stone.

No worries, said the soft voice. I am here with you. We will travel through the stone together. You need to grow two more eyes to protect you from the bouncing.

Ribbet that, said Frogeye. For once in my life, I can’t wait to grow more eyes! Frogeye could feel the tension in his scalp as he grew another eye on the right side of his head. He felt the same sensation on the left side of his head as he grew his left eye. Holy toads-a-moly! I got my eyes on now and I am good to go!

Yes, you are, my prince, said the soft voice. We will travel on this journey together. I will keep you safe. This I promise you!

Down and down they plummeted, deeper and deeper into the darkness, falling fast and furious into the unknown across time and another dimension. Frogeye knew he’d made the right decision. He suddenly realized that he could trust the voice in his head. She will protect me, he thought. Croaks up, I feel safe with her. I will not question her motives anymore. Maybe she’s my frog intuitive voice. Yip, yip, yippee! That’s it. She just won my croak. She’s my intuition cranking and croaking it up.

We are beginning our descent, Frogeye. I will place you down as gently as a feather falls from the sky.

Ribbet, ribbet. It’s a croak up. And I’m almost there. It’s a croak up. And I’m no longer scared! Frogeye sang this verse out loud with happiness in his voice until they landed. This is just as beautiful as the last time, Frogeye croaked. This is total amphibian bliss. Come with me, and let’s go through the pink geode together. Uh, before we step through, can you please tell me your name again? I forgot it.

Of course, my prince. I am Uriel. I am your light of protection.

Okay, Uriel. Let’s get hopping and stepping. The pink crystals inside this geode are on the pad. I could stay inside this stone forever. Web’s honor, Uriel. I know all my doubts and fears will float away once we do this. Then I can get back to Raphael and Haniel and tell them yes, I will travel through all of the geodes with them. Sound like a plan, Uriel? Are you ready to do this with me? I’m getting all croaked up with so much excitement! Frogeye said as he hopped and hopped with delight.

Oh, my prince. You carry such innocence and goodness in your heart, the soft voice said as she took his web and walked through the geode with him. They’d only walked a few feet when suddenly, Frogeye let go of her hand and hopped over to the water.

Mother of toads! Would you look at all of those lily pads? I’ve never seen so many pads in my life. Do you think they knew we were coming? Holy guacamole. I could really stay down here forever. Look at all of the tall water grass with the white bulbs. I’ve never seen that before.

Those are not bulbs, my prince. They are orbs.

Okay, there you go again. You are speaking a language my webs don’t understand. Uh, what’s an orb? Frogeye asked, scratching his middle eye.

Many believe that an orb is an energetic field of light from the universe. Orbs can sometimes carry messages across time that we need to hear. Orbs are for our highest good. Perhaps they have something to tell you, my prince.

Ribbet, roger that. I will gladly hop on those pads to see what is happening. Should I go now? Frogeye asked.

Absolutely, my prince. This is your time, Uriel replied.

Frogeye hopped and hopped as fast as he could before landing on the first pad. "So glad I made it on the pad. They were far away from my hops and I was worried I couldn’t reach
