Prologue
I previously wrote an eBook titled ‘Becoming Libertarian’ to fill a gap I saw in the political landscape. In my typical fashion, I tried to use humor and examples to define for the reader exactly what a Libertarian is, and why the reader should be one.
I was a bit dismayed when I received a review, which included the following sentences. Consists intuitive but not original ideas, a bit of nights thoughts. This
book" is a fair introduction to Libertarianism for those unfamiliar or mistaken.
Beyond that description, I was quite disappointed by the lack of new ideas, research to be associated, and new ideas/personal thought involved."
The review was actually a decent review, and I appreciated it, but I wondered if the writer thought that I should create a new sort of Libertarianism, or if I should have bored my audience with a number of references to obscure authors and sources. I am afraid that I consider the concept of Libertarianism to be fairly well set in stone, since at least the time of the Founding Fathers.
I suppose that I could have covered the changing landscape of liberty in present day life, discussing why the right to privacy extends to such things as the internet and electronic communications and activity, but I believe that you know when your rights have been violated in these venues when you see it, and privacy means the same thing today that it meant way back when, even if we have invented whole new ways to invade it.
This book is an attempt to cover the subject in a bit more detail, to warn of the coming social, governmental and economic upheavals/collapses, and to link the values and character of the Libertarian to the survival traits that will be needed. In this vein, I will be defining both Libertarian and Survivalist in the most straightforward manner I can stand, and describing within the book why you will need to be a successful example of both of these described persons.
When the proverbial excrement hits the air circulation system, you will want to be a survivalist in order to survive the first month or so of the tribulations, and you will want to be a Libertarian to survive the remaining years of your life. We are rapidly coming to a time when people will not tolerate dead weight around, and if you are said dead weight, the only thing between you and a bullet in the head is the price of a bullet. Now let us start the definitions.
Most simply put, a Libertarian is a person who thinks that the most important thing in life is the liberty to do and be whatever you wish, as long as what you do does not interfere with others seeking the same liberties. Libertarians are generally anti large governments, because big governments tend to find big ways to limit freedoms. Libertarians are generally pro-defensive armaments, and anti-offensive armaments. We think that we should eliminate invaders of our home, but we should leave other’s personal affairs personal, and not try to invade others to impose our wills or preferences on others. An exception to this rule would be to defend a friendly country from aggression. Because debt to a creditor binds you, we generally think that people should avoid being in debt, and Nations should always avoid debt.
A Survivalist is a person who believes that there is a coming collapse that he should prepare for, and believes that the way to do this is to put together food, water, weapons and other materials to
