About this ebook
Requiem For Eden - Season 1: Episode 9. The Norsemen
The False Prophet’s sneaky plan to raise the Dark Prince is slinking along nicely and everything looks like it’s going to work out just peachy for the lawyer. Usually does.
Hardess is bringing his army south, the most feared fighters there has ever been. Michael’s guardians will fight to the last man, and if Lucid has anything to do with it, that’s just what they’ll do.
Gabriel and the young knights are heading home since their hideout in the desert is now burnt to the ground and the hills are alive with the sound of Norse horns and the howl of monsters. So probably a good plan to slip on back to Eden.
Lucid is well pleased and already planning a bit of a celebration for when Trinity falls and the hated Senate have all been slaughtered.
Really, it’s best to wait for the result before you spend your winnings.

The Norsemen
The prophet, aka Shister the saviour of poor helpless folk—strike that, the saviour of rich helpless folk—laid it out for the heads of the Twelve Families, putting on his saving you demeanour, which was basically sighing heavily at crucial moments in his delivery and shaking his head sadly when he recounted the tales of butchery and dismemberment inflicted on helpless…rich folks by the Norsemen. Some of it was actually true. Well, no, it wasn’t, but why spoil a good recount with truth.
When the Norsemen came raping and pillaging last,
he said, and gave them a long sigh. They landed at Portum Fures, a picturesque law-abiding port in the Northern Territories.
They’d never heard of it, but it must be there or this prophet fellow wouldn’t have mentioned it. And he was wearing a nice white robe, so no discussion needed.
Shister had never heard of it either, but as we have already established, truth is a fleeting concept for the small of mind and limited in imagination. And that’ll be this lot.
Here,
the Mouthy One said from the back. Doesn’t Fures mean thieves?
Shister skewered him with his look. The one much practiced in the mirror to be used on rebellious jurors. No.
He shook his head sadly. Also practiced. "No more than equus stercore means horse sh—"
We should let the prophet bring us up to speed,
the Ghost said quickly, not wanting the meeting to degenerate to name calling and then to abuse and, as always, to end on a full drag-them-out brawl.
Thank you, my lord,
Shister said, and gave the Ghost a hint of a bow. Not overdoing it. Where was I? Ah, raping and pillaging.
He took a moment to look at the men around the oval table, each one watching with wide eyes and wider mouth. The latter maybe because there was still no sign of the grub.
He waved a hand. In the interest of decorum and you fine gentlemen being able to sleep tonight, I will limit my narrative to this. Not a man survived. And the women? I won’t go there.
Go on,
the fine gentlemen said almost as one.
Shister waved his hand again. He was this far, this far, from giving them the full high-court performance. He resisted. Their old fatty tickers wouldn’t stand the euphoria, the shock. Suffice it to say,
he said slowly, very slowly. This close. Portum Fures is now a ghost town.
He glanced at the Holy Ghost. Begging your pardon, my lord.
The Ghost shrugged. It is what it is. I am what I am.
And the swarm of disembowelers, castrators, decapitat—
The Ghost coughed, but since he didn’t actually breathe, he had to say cough, so it lost a little of its impact.
Shister put his hand over his heart and looked down, the thought of what was to become of them almost too much to
