About this ebook
Catastrophic events have occurred throughout the Pacific Ocean in the region known as the Ring of Fire. Scientists, spiritualists, mystics and naturalists strive to find the causes for the Earth imploding, exploding and cracking itself open from the inside. For every conception, perception and religious theism formulated in the thoughts of man, there is the underlying consideration of what is known as pantheism. This is the doctrine that portrays God as the transcendent reality, in which the material universe and living beings are only manifestations. Native American traditions are based on the idea that the universe and all natural objects within have a spirit or life essence. Consider the possibility that these occurrences are not random acts of nature...that they are the indwelling spirits of the Earth portraying their fury at injustices imposed upon them. What if the only way to save their continuance would be by eliminating the things that are destroying it...namely mankind!

Always a storyteller, my family now claims my fabrications are character traits of the weird and unusual! I grew up on the shores of the Oneida River in upstate NY and spent a lot of free time fishing, boating and swimming. I always loved science-fiction and fantasy and read books by authors Jules Verne, Tolkien, Stephen King, etc. My father was an avid reader and always bought a book for Christmas and my birthday. Mystery suspense, paranormal dimensional time travel, mythical creatures and mystical events are thoughts released from my weird little worlds in my mind into books. Presently I am writing a collection of short stories entitled "Murmurs of Madness”,tales which involve visions, voices, and visits from alternate domains and beings.

PROLOGUE
For every conception, perception and religious theism formulated in the thoughts of man, there is the underlying consideration of what is known as pantheism. This is the doctrine that portrays God as the transcendent reality, in which the material universe and living beings are only manifestations.
African and Native American religions view a naturalistic approach to spiritualism, revering the universe and its nature just as they are. This promotes a respect for all human, animal and growing things, and for lifestyles that sustain rather than destroy the environment. There are elements of pantheism in some forms of Christianity and Hinduism as well, in presupposition that the Universe is the totality of everything identical with divinity, or that everything composes an immanent God.
A traditional Japanese religion Shinto, formulates the belief in which the spirits of nature or kami, exist everywhere. Because humans are considered a part of nature, rather than superior to, or separate from, Shinto believers have a moral imperative to treat everything environmental with respect.
The Jewish Kabbalah establishes oneness with God and creation. A passage from scripture reads: "Do not say this is a stone and not God. All existence is God, and the stone is a thing pervaded by divinity."
Early Christian theorist Meister Eckhart wrote: "God is infinite in his simplicity and simple in his infinity. Therefore He is everywhere and in everything, and is complete in the innermost part of each and every thing."
Albert Einstein stated: "The individual feels the sublimity and marvelous order which reveal themselves both in nature and in the world of thought, therefore experiences the universe as a single significant whole."
Native American traditions are based on the idea that the universe and all natural objects within have a spirit or life essence. The mountains, rivers, deserts and forests are believed to possess their own unique force. This also includes the phenomenal spirits of storms, volcanoes, earthquakes, and wildfires.
Now consider the possibility that these inherent objects, events and occurrences are not random acts of nature…that they are the indwelling spirits of the Earth portraying their fury at injustices imposed upon them. What if the only way to save their continuance would be by eliminating the things that are destroying it? Have you ever wondered about the eradication of the dinosaurs, the monsters who crushed the earth beneath their massive forms, tore down and consumed vast amounts of vegetation and destroyed natural forests? Was their extinction a natural occurrence, or was it an extrication performed by the inanimate inhabitants of the Earth?
Think about how humans have polluted the environment, set off devastating bombs, destroyed forests, lakes, mountains, and drilled deep into the core to mine minerals, gems and extract oil. Wouldn’t the inanimate spirits that dwell within consider humans no more than destructive insects? If so, we might be next targeted by the Earth to be exterminated!
Native American proverb:
A man said to the universe:
Sir, I exist!
However,
replied the universe,
"The fact has not created in me…
a sense of obligation."
—Stephen Crane, War Is Kind and Other Poems
Man has lost the capacity to foresee and foretell. He will end by destroying the Earth.
—Albert Schweitzer, German theorist
Look deep into nature and you will understand.

1. TSUNAMI
An unusually large wave produced by a seaquake or under sea volcanic eruption.
Kuniko Shizaki, a member of the Earthquake Research committee of Japan, forecasted the earthquake and the ensuing tidal wave, but he did not predict the magnitude in which it abolished,
Ian McVey stated. "The forecast included tsunami height, the region it would affect, and the occurrence probability. However the scientific knowledge of the Geodesy Council it did not carry out a comprehensive evaluation of the data."
He turned to the chief administrator Debra Martin, head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration known as the NOAA. It was the American scientific agency of the United States Department of Commerce…primary focused on the conditions of the oceans and the atmosphere. Their expertise and insight warned of dangerous weather conditions, charted storms, and researched methods for the protection of ocean and coastal resources. They also conducted understanding and stewardship of the environment. In addition to its fourteen thousand civilian employees, the NOAA research and operations were supported by a thousand uniformed service members of the Commissioned Officer Corps.
Debra studied the data. Although it was often hard to summarize the details of how a tsunami was generated by a volcanic eruption or earthquake, something had also produced massive underwater landslides, she realized. The computer had estimated how much of the tsunami wave amplified as the ground moved during the earthquake followed by volcanic eruptions, however the impact severity of the landslides added significantly to the disaster.
She knew there must have been uncertainties in the computer’s data input. Assuming that tsunamis were mainly caused by earthquakes…Geologists, seismologists, hydrologists, and oceanographers from all over the world worked together to predict these occurrences. Martin and her team where located at the center based in Honolulu, Hawaii.
I don’t understand why it measured the magnitude of earthquakes, yet undetermined the immensity of the landslides once the tsunami hit Japan,
she said studying the information the computer system sent forth. "The scientists at the PTWC, the Pacific Warning Center, received messages from the satellite about seismic activity, but nothing about the undersea landslide that produced such a massive wave of destruction! The earthquakes off the Pacific coast of Tohoku, triggered powerful waves that reached heights of up to three hundred feet in Tohoku's Iwate Prefecture, and obliterated Japan from Sendai to Tokyo. Most of Japan was swept into the Pacific, and the back lash of tidal waves produced by landslides are heading our way!" Ian drew in a sharp breath.
"Kuji and the southern section of Ofunato have been demolished, he exclaimed.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued evacuations and announcements for locations covering the entire region. Russia lost most of the Kuril Islands, and the United States National Warning Center declared emergency evacuation for California, Oregon, Alaska, Washington and British Columbia. This is ten, maybe twenty times more advanced than the tsunami of 2011, he speculated.
The Sendai Earthquake that occurred in northeastern Japan on March 11 off the northeastern coast of Honshu, caused widespread damage on land and initiated a series of massive waves that devastated the coastal areas of Asia."
Debra nodded distractedly. She knew the history of the Pacific region, but could not determine what had happened this time to cause such a catastrophic surge that eliminated most of Japan. She did not have time to deliberate because sirens and alarms were ringing throughout the facility. She glanced at Ian who was staring disbelievingly at the computer readouts.
What is it? What’s happening Ian,
Debra asked apprehensively. He shook his head in bewilderment, and couldn’t find his voice to answer. Martin rushed over to the computers. The sirens and alarms ringing and flashing were drowning out the loud yells from the rest of the staff working at the facility. There were screams of panic and the centers military personnel were frantically rounding people up and rushing them to emergency helicopters stationed for evacuations.
Debra reached the monitors and stood alongside Ian as the whole of the scene unfolded in the digital images. It seemed unreal, almost like a digital generated disaster movie, the ones that had become so popular in the past decade. Finally her mind formulated the events that unfolded before them.
The San Andreas Fault which ran the length of California, had just suffered a catastrophic multitude of earthquakes, even though some geologists said it could never happen. Every fault line had an upper limit to its potency, determined by its length and width and by how far it could slip.
In the San Andreas upper limit, there was another fault line known as the Cascadia subduction zone. It ran seven hundred miles off the coast of the Pacific Northwest, beginning near Cape Mendocino, California and continuing along Oregon, Washington, and Vancouver Island.
The Cascadia part of its name came from the Cascade Range, a chain of volcanic mountains that followed the same course a hundred miles inland. The subduction zone referred to a region where one tectonic plate was sliding underneath another. Tectonic plates were slabs of mantle and crust in their epochs-long drift, which rearranged the earth’s continents and oceans.
The Pacific Northwest sat squarely within the Ring of Fire. An oceanic plate had slipped beneath a continental one and the Cascadia subduction zone had produced a major earthquake, from which ensued compressional waves radiating outward from the fault line. Compressional waves were fast-moving, high-frequency waves, detected by sensors thirty to ninety seconds ahead of other seismic waves.
This normally would have been enough time for earthquake early-warning systems to automatically perform a variety of lifesaving functions, however the Pacific Northwest was not prepared to handle this magnitude of events. When the Cascadia earthquake began, there was a brief suspended moment before the surface waves arrived. They were the lower-frequency waves that moved the ground both up and down, and side to side.
The California electrical grid went down west of the Cascades and well beyond as the catastrophe unfolded. Houses slide from their foundations on the undulating ground, and larger structures began to collapse. Millions of buildings, schools, hospitals, factories, public service stations and highway bridges, fell as the Earth shook relentlessly, unmindful of the calamities occurring.
But that was not the end. Seventy-one thousand people lived in Cascadia’s inundation zone, and the ensuing tsunami engulfed and destroyed the Pacific coastline before there was a chance to evacuate.
It…it’s all gone,
Ian murmured almost inaudibly. California, Washington, Oregon, the whole western coastline. It’s not there anymore!
Debra shook her head, denying in her mind what her eyes were seeing. An array of GPS instruments near the San Andreas, detected constant motion of the Earth’s crust and vertical motions arising from tectonic sources. The vertical component of the measurements in tectonic investigations were hindered because of difficulties in interpreting the noisy data.
A comprehensive statistical technique had released the data from among non-tectonic signals, breaking down the noisy signals to isolate a simple vertical motion pattern of the San Andreas Fault. Further southeast of the Cajon Pass, the fault had moved substantially.
Based on the movement of the plates, the Pacific plate had moved northwest of the North American plate, and the San Andreas cracked from the stress that had been building up for more than a century.
We think that we have found a way to regulate nature with our technology,
Debra exclaimed. Yet look what has been destroyed in a matter of minutes. The tsunamis created from the earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and landslides, have triggered a global cataclysm! With so much developing at once, the massive surge of water traveled across the open ocean at around 1000 mph and gained strength, before hitting the coastline of the United States. Everything happened so rapidly, it was beyond the computer’s adequacy to detect the earthquakes and eruptions while still giving us information about the Japan disaster. It’s almost as though these incidents were constituted as a devise to do as much damage as possible while we were distracted!
Ian was terrified. He started unplugging computers and equipment, already knowing yet denying the fact that it was probably too late for them to evacuate. He stood clutching data charts, not aware of what he was doing, barely acknowledging the fact that Debra was speaking.
"The Ring of Fire, a string of volcanoes and sites of seismic activity all around the edges of the Pacific Ocean, is shaped like a 25,000-mile horseshoe, she began.
There are four hundred and fifty volcanoes stretching from the southern tip of South America, along the coast of North America, and across the Bering Strait, down through Japan and into New Zealand. Tectonic plates, which fit together like pieces of a puzzle, have been forced together in a cationic collision. The plates are constantly moving atop a layer of solid and molten rock, smashing together and then moving apart. It seems as though they have all moved simultaneously at once, she relayed.
The East Pacific Rise is a site of major seafloor spreading in the Ring of Fire. It is located on the divergent boundary of the Pacific Plate, the Cocos Plate of Central America, the Nazca Plate of South America, and the Antarctic Plate. This is the largest group of underwater volcanoes along the portion of the East Pacific Rise between the coasts of northern Chile and southern Peru." Ian nodded.
This transform boundary formed as tectonic plates slid horizontally past each other,
he speculated. Parts of these plates got stuck at the places where they touch. Stress built up in those areas as the plates continued to move. The stress caused the rock to break or slip, suddenly lurching the plates forward and causing monumental earthquakes. The majority of Earth’s faults transformed boundaries in the Ring of Fire and the San Andreas Fault, which stretches along the central west coast of North America. They lay on the transform boundary between the North American Plate, which is moving south, and the Pacific Plate moving north. Measuring about nine hundred miles long and ten miles deep, the fault has cut through the western part of the state of California.
"Yes and now hot spots deep within the Earth’s mantle, from which heat facilitates the melting of rock in the brittle upper portion of the mantle have cracked the crust, and a multitude of volcanoes erupted producing a series of landslides," she exclaimed.
Ian sank down to the floor. He knew it would only be a matter of minutes before the massive waves crushed down upon them, destroying everything and obliterating everyone. His life passed through his mind in a blur, each instant recognized as a tribute. His youth spent on a farm in Ireland. His parents, siblings, and his faithful old dog Barney waiting home on the green isle. The university, his professors, obtaining his masters in geographical tectonics and weather, and the girl he left back in England when he was given the position here. He should have asked her to marry him, and she would have lived on a base in California where he would be given leave every month from the NOAA. He sighed deeply. No, she would be gone now, swept out to sea with the rest of the west coast of North America. Then tears formed in his eyes. Thank God she was still in Manchester, safe for the time being. He wondered if she would feel any grief or regrets when the news of his death reached her. Debra was collecting data from the computer information center in Washington D.C. Nations were collaborating, sending military forces, national guards and emergency personnel from areas not devastated by the upheaval of the earth’s fury.
Mount St. Helens in Washington State has erupted,
she stated. "Below Mount St. Helens, both the Juan de Fuca and Pacific plates have sub-ducted beneath the North American Plate. Popocatepetl, one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the Ring of Fire has blown ash into the atmosphere. It lies on the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt, the result of the small Cocos Plate sub-ducting beneath the North American Plate. There is seismic activity being recorded and evacuations are underway. If this volcano erupts, Mexico will lose over ten million people!" Ian looked up. Now that he had accepted his fate, he was concerned about the fate of the rest of the world.
Why is this happening,
he asked her, not actually expecting her to reply. Is this the beginning of Armageddon, the end of the world, the Apocalypse?
Debra did not look up from her monitor. Outside the waves crashed against the sea walls and they could see the military and other personnel running to board the emergency submarines and helicopters as the winds and waves tore through the facility.
They aren’t going to make it,
Ian whispered. Neither are we.
He pulled his chain with the cross from inside his shirt and began to pray. Debra shook her head slightly.
I don’t know if this is the day of reckoning, or perhaps the Earth is attempting to rid itself of all the harmful creatures’ intent on destroying it!
Ian didn’t bother to acknowledge her statement. He was praying.
2. BURNING RING OF FIRE
The basin of the Pacific Ocean where a large number of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.
The Pacific Ring of Fire area affects billions of people who live in its proximity,
Captain Arnold declared as the nuclear submarine followed the escape route south eastward. The reality of a volcanic eruption, earthquake, or tsunami are an inevitable part of their lives.
Debra contended his statement yet reluctantly admitted to herself
