    Photography Business - Gustavo Cruz

    Introduction

Cameras are amazing pieces of technology if you actually sit down and start to think about them.  These little devices allow you to push a button and capture a moment in time.  It is just amazing to me how they actually work.

With these deices we are able to capture pieces of our world.  We can capture a beautiful sunset or the massive power of a tropical storm.  We can use our cameras to take pictures of happy occasions or document tragedies in our lives.  No matter what we use our cameras for the end result is the same.  A photograph that we can now do something with.

So why do we take photos and what do we do with them when we are finished?  Well for most people we display them in our homes, offices and carry them around with us in our wallets.  For others they are used in our work environments such as news reports, accident documentation, wedding memories and many other special occasions.  And for a mass majority of us these photos either reside in a shoe box or as a digital file stuffed in cyber oblivion on our computer hard drives.

For those of us who fall into this category and for those of us who don’t I wanted to talk to you about 40 different ways that you as an armature photographer can go ahead and make money with your photos.  I mean think about it.  You are walking along the street with your camera and take a picture of a pick pocket.  You can present this photo to the police and help others recover from a tragic experience.  Or you can take a photo of a bird or other animal and use it as a visual aid in a school project or other activity.

When it comes to uses for our photos the options are limitless and they are only limited by your creativity.  In this book we will explore many options and with some extra thought and creativity you can turn each and every one of these into a profitable business.  So if you are as excited as I am go and dust off your camera and lets go get that money shot!

Chapter 1 – Capturing the World Around Us

Cameras can be used as tools or toys.  We can use them only on special occasions or we can use them on a constant basis.  In the year 2015 cameras are everywhere.  We have them on our cell phones, tablets, computers and pretty much any device that we carry with us on a regular bass.  Some of these cameras will also allow us to record video allowing us to instantaneously share our experiences with the world.  With this much power we can easily capture the world around us.

This is why I wanted to start with this chapter in the book.  As technology grows and the devices that we have with us on a regular basis get smaller and smaller and can take cleaner and sharper pictures the temptation to take pictures and document areas of our world that should remain private gets stronger and stronger.

Before I get into how you can make money with your photos I wanted to raise this red flag and give a word of warning.  With these devices people have the ability to do good and they have the ability to do evil or at least questionable actions.  Cameras don’t have feeling or remorse.  All they do is record what we tell them to record.  For this reason it is very important that we use these devices as tools and not toys.  So before you point and click take a moment to make sure that what you are taking a picture of will not harm or hurt others if they fall into the wrong hands.

    Photos You Should Take

When it comes to cameras and the photos they take we should set some personal guidelines and stick to some specific interests.  If you do this your photos will be of a higher quality and be more desirable to others and at the end of the day you will be able to make more money with photos people will be looking for.

    Ethical Photos

You need to control yourself and take ethical photos.  These are photos that aren’t going to be used against someone else.  If you take photos of people in compromising position or alter a photo to reflect them doing something or implying that they are doing something that is illegal, embarrassing or could get them into trouble then you should refrain from taking those shots.  All of the photos that you take should be ethical.

    Photos You Should Not Take

You should never take pictures of individuals in compromising positions.  This includes nude photos or photos that will come back and do harm to them physically or emotionally.  Nude photos are probably one of the most common photos adults will take.  Now I know if you are in a relationship and taking photos is your thing then you can do so at your own risk.  Just make sure that you have consent and permission to do so.

Other photos you should not take are photos of people in embarrassing positions or in private moments.  If you invade others privacy to take photos you are the one performing the crime and if you benefit financially from these photos you will be looking at fines, jail time or both.  When taking photos make sure you think it through before it comes back to bite you in the ass.

Sticking To A Specific Photo Category And Area Of Interest

When you decide to go and take photos for a living or at least try to take photos and make money from them you will want to consider limiting your field of interest to one category or group.  If you go out there and try to take photos of everything and try to make money from multiple areas you will not have the quality and desirability that people will be seeking from their photo purchases.

This is why you want to pick a category.  You can select a broad category such as people, buildings, animals or you can narrow your focus even tighter to weddings and special events, modern architecture, dog and cats or tropical fish.  When you
