Connie Boje

I write poetry zines and ebooks and am currently working on updating them all into Smashwords. If you are not familiar with a ZINE it is a book produced from a photo copier or a printer. I have just come back from my first zinefest in NYC held at Barnard College. I also write fiction and my first book is called SLANTBOARD which takes place in the future where people can ride on boards that float a little off the ground nor do they go much over 10 miles and hour so they have a similar culture to long-distance bike riding. Thanks for reading!

Stars and Stripes - Connie Boje

    STARS AND STRIPES

    By Connie Boje

    2014-2016 SMASHWORDS EDITION

    S T A R S A N D S T R I P E S

star shine be mine up on a movie screen

happy people living life with every pore

big wig gig fake eyelash lashing black lines

teared drops black too glossy lips red

    kiss kiss

striped shirts ankle bracelets black strap

in the hot sun moving over green grass barren

cemented city highway chasing pushing paper

until the warden speaks and away they go

    bus bus

what 'bout us the in-between neither one

nor the other our stars on the screen nor

striped horizontal lines we are here today

we are gone tomorrow what ever did that

piece of waving freedom mean stars and

stripes was a nation where peace remained

until they flew it lower and lower for whoever

until you had to ask who else has died stars and

stripes forever lulled asleep like at beddy bye

believing the parents whatever lie they said

go to sleep little ones go to sleep it will

    soon be over G O T O S L E E P

    A S I F N O S T A T E S

    A S I F N O C O U N T R I E S

countries are such a bother aren't they

they get in the way of so many

    INCONVIENCES in life

I just do not know what to do

    if countries dissolve into a

    CAKE of mash

    cooked up in the oven

    until cracks appear

    because too much batter

    was in the cake
