Picking Up the Pieces - Valerie Orr
Introduction
When grief touches our lives, we often find ourselves in a place that feels so foreign that we don't know where to turn. Picking Up the Pieces: Learning to Live through Grief after the Loss of a Loved One
has been written with that place in mind and features a chapter on every phase of grief no matter when you pass through it.
Whether you find yourself mourning the loss of a parent, a sibling, a child or a pet, each of us mourns differently, in our own time and with no definite direction. This book takes your hand and lets you know that whatever phase of grief you are passing through at the moment, whether, for the first time or the fifth time, you are not alone.
Chapter One: The Immediate Aftershock
When someone we care about dearly passes away, the immediate aftershock tends to differ for each of us. There is no road map or genetic test that will tell any of us how we will react to our loss, but what we can do is find out more about how others have coped with their loss in the past. Knowing more about how others have coped with similar losses is a great way to help aid us in both preparing for and enduring the tribulations that our own grief brings. In this chapter, we will take a look at what you may experience during the immediate aftershock of your grief.
In this chapter, you will learn about the following:
What Am I Supposed to Do
