Superfoods Inc - Justine Crowley
Not too long ago, my goal was to simply write one book. Seeming as though I was on track to write my 10th book, I decided to write a book on super foods. Often people think that super foods are a scam, a con of some sorts. I have to admit, I thought that the term super foods
was a nutritional gimmick and marketing fad until I actually decided to follow up my psychology doctorate with a diploma course in nutrition; a course where I was actually learning about nutrition and the science behind eating well from a medical doctor who was initially a GP for a long time, and then went on to be a nutritional medical doctor for over 25 years now. I wanted to learn from the best, and from one of the best I could find, I learnt so much about nutrition at the Cert IV level in only three short months on a part-time basis, that there was no need to continue on with the diploma.
As soon as I learnt more about our macronutrients, vitamins and minerals, as well as how unhealthy foods deviate from our natural diets; I’ve found that super foods do share some common themes. Yes, they’re anti-inflammatory, and to quality as super foods they need to be rich in antioxidants or at least be super, super healthy for us. In order to be super healthy for us, they need to be loaded with the essential vitamins and minerals for us, while being a healthy food that is fiber rich. You probably learnt in kindergarten that oranges contain vitamin C, yet it will surprise you that I’ve covered at least two of the 60 super foods explained in this book that have more Vitamin C than an orange does. I only wanted to cover those healthy foods that I believe give us some incredible nutritional leverage; no different to flying from one side of the USA to the other in only 4-5 hours. You will definitely get more bang for your buck so to speak from these 60 foods that are scientifically proven to be super foods. In fact, one other super food covered is usually a vice for nearly all of us, yet contains 40 times more antioxidants than blueberries have, and blueberries are an antioxidant rich fruit to begin with.
I wanted to write a book on super foods to also make you more aware that there are more super foods out there than many of us realize, and some are quite affordable too. In fact, one of these super foods (well a drink actually) comes for free with many health and wellbeing benefits attached to drinking such on a daily basis. A couple of drinks, spices and tonics will also be covered, as they do pack some nutritional punch in the super food stakes. I chose 60 as the magic number, so you can refer to this book time and time again; something of which will save you countless hours on the Internet to research. Plus I’ve covered each of these 60 super foods in alphabetical order, so you can simply refer to each relevant food or drink when you need to. For example, if you want to learn more about kale, you simply click on the kale link in the table of contents to learn more about why kale is healthy, and why kale is a super food. Definitely a no holes barred approach to sharing the nutritional benefits (to also name a few a couple of side effects of consuming such) sharing the joys of eating all of the 60 super foods that I was guided to cover for your benefit.
At times, this book may sound like a cracked record, and I make no apologies for that. After all repetition is the mother of skill, and nearly all of these super foods share a common theme. For example, green leafy vegetables are generally abundant in Vitamin K, as well as in the minerals magnesium, manganese and phosphorous to name. This is also not done on purpose, yet rather done so to further inform you and educate you on the nutritional, health and wellbeing advantages that come with eating such healthy super foods, that you will be inspired to eat well for nutritional leverage. Having eaten well for a couple of years now (yes with a couple of relapses in between) I find that eating unhealthy food is expensive; especially after my powerful three months of part-time nutrition study in 2016. On the other hand, we do want to live a little, yet a few of these super foods also contain a bit of natural sweetness to help us enjoy a bit of sweetness if savoury gets boring.
All of the content in this book has been committed to memory, and therefore no referencing has been
