Starting as an amateur rapper in the Brooklyn underground scene, Jay Z quickly rose to the heights of rap superstardom. With over seventeen Grammy nominations and 75 million albums sold, the rapper is now one of the most successful figures in the entire rap industry. Not content to stick with music, in recent years Jay-Z has proven that he is a shrewd businessman, expanding his business empire to include holdings in record labels, clothing companies, and a sports management partnership. The young man who had to worry about his electricity being shut off when he was a child is now worth over $500 million and continues to assert his influence as one of the most outspoken and creative forces in music today.
Early Life in New York City
Shawn Corey Carter was born on December 4, 1969 in the borough of Brooklyn, New York City. Carter’s father abandoned
