Rachel Abbott is one of my finds for this year - I have read all 3 in the DI Tom Douglas series. I thought that perhaps this one was marginally not quite as good as the earlier two, but it is still a page turner, and there is a little twist right at the end. There are little puzzles for the police to solve all the way through, and that keeps you reading.Olivia Brookes' husband Robert needs to control every part of her life. He has been there whenever she needs him - when her lover disappears, when she needs to sell her house, when her parents die, when she becomes depressed, and when he best friend appears to desert her. But it takes Olivia a long time to begin to connect the dots. And then she realises the knife edge she and her children are living on.My reason for saying this title is not quite as good as the earlier ones lies in the way bits of the plot strain the bounds of credibility. The structure is interesting: mainly a tale told from two points of view: Olivia's and Tom Douglas's, but occasionally we segway into Robert Brookes' mind as well.Definitely worth adding to your list for this year.

Might Have Been BetterI might have given Sleep Tight a higher rating but a few things bothered me:1. While the plot was good, it was rather a long and drawnout telling of the whole story.2. I liked our police pairing of Tom and Becky a lot, they were the best part of this novel. Very abrupt and jarring transitions into first person voices for our victim and suspect, who were shrill and over the top melodramatic.3. The whole convoluted conspiring of Sophie, Samir and Olivia was unnecessarily complicated and felt totally contrived. An okay book, not sure I like this author's style of writing, so likely won't read more.

The main question throughout the book is how far will a husband go to keep his wife? Maybe even more importantly, how far has he already gone? Olivia shouldn't have been asking WHO the man is she's married to, but WHAT he is. Is he a loving protective husband or is he a kidnapper or even a murderer and just where ARE his wife and kids? Although there were the unexpected twists and turns, I never felt that I was mired down in the story or that something was deliberately being left out. Some of the twists were easy to see coming, but even with the ones that weren't, you didn't feel like a red herring had been thrown into the mix at the last minute for a convenient out. I've read books by several authors that constantly do that. Thank you, Rachel Abbott, you didn't.

A young woman runs from a man following her – does she escape? A woman's boyfriend disappears off the face of the earth – is he alive? A middle-aged couple are found dead in their bed – have they been murdered? A wife telephones the police, her husband has abducted their children – or has he? She herself disappears, leaving behind her passport and purse, but no photographs. Where is she? These are some of the plot lines in Sleep Tight. Be warned, it's the author's style to leave some unanswered to be carried forward to later novels. Enough plots are resolved to make this a highly satisfying psychological thriller by an author who is becoming very popular and with good reason. If you enjoyed Before I Go To Sleep by SJ Watson, you should enjoy this.Nina Jon is the author of the newly released Magpie Murders - a series of short murder mysteries – and the Jane Hetherington's Adventures in Detection crime and mystery series, about private detective Jane Hetherington.

Her best yet. Not as disturbing as Only the Innocent, but somehow more set in the real world. The twists and turns continued right to the end, leaving my head spinning! Though now I need to know what happened to Tom's brother ...

Pretty good story about a man obsessed with a woman who became his wife and how he manipulated her entire life. Some good twists in the ending. Enjoyed.

A very good read. A story full of twists and turns and all at a fast pace. I still can't understand how Olivia reached the correct conclusion but anyway it was still an enjoyable book.

I love audiobooks - they're great for taking on the go with you and for me - when I can't sleep. Mysteries and suspense novels are my fave (I have a fondness for British authors) and I'm always happy to discover new authors. Rachel Abbott is a new to me author and one I would absolutely listen to again. Sleep Tight is the one I chose to start with.Olivia Brookes's children are the most important thing in her life. When she comes home one day to find them - and her husband missing - she fears the worst. Tragedy is not a stranger to Olivia. DCI Tom Douglas is called in. Thankfully they are located - and no harm done. Or is it? Two years later DCI Douglas is called in again - this time to investigate the disappearance of Olivia and her children. But, this time there may not be such a happy outcome. Olivia has left her purse, the car is in the garage and oddly enough, all the pictures of the family have been destroyed.Excellent premise and great plotting! I had my suspicions as to what had happened, but I'm happy to say I wasn't completely right. I love twisty, turny who's telling the truth and who's lying books. Abbot has penned a good one. And I enjoyed this one all more I think because I listened to it.Reader's voices and interpretations of a novelist's work can make or break a story for a listener. Sleep Tight employs two readers - Melody Grove and Andrew Wincott. Both narrators have voices that are clear, pleasant and easy to understand (both are British). I thought the voices - Grove's quieter and Wincott's more powerful - suited the mental images I created for the characters. Some readers have the ability to create numerous voice for all the characters, but I quite enjoy multiple cast members. I liked the dual narrative - it made me feel like I am more involved in the story and the investigation, rather than just an observer. I thought Sleep Tight was a really good listen. See for yourself - here's an audio excerpt of Sleep Tight.Fun fact: "On 5th August 2015 Amazon confirmed that Rachel Abbott is the #1 bestselling author in the UK on the Kindle over the past five years."

This is the third book in the DCI Tom Douglas series; however, it stands alone easily. The happenings in Tom’s life are pretty minor in the grand scheme of the book and explained well enough that the reader will know what’s going on with him. This is one of those mysteries that’s hard to review without accidentally giving something away. I can say that I found this book to be very suspenseful. There are a couple of minor mysteries in addition to the central mystery of what happened to Olivia. One in particular was easy to figure out but I didn’t mind because I was still engrossed in the main plotline. Parts of the book were repetitive and it could have been trimmed down a bit. However, the twists, especially the big one at the end, were very clever and outweighed my minor criticisms.I listened to the audio version of this book. The book takes place in the UK so the narrators have British accents, which I love to listen to. Tom was voiced by a man and the main female character was voiced by a woman, which was the right choice. The hard part about listening to a compelling mystery on audiobook is that I want to stay in garage and keep listening even after I’ve come home! (I listen to the books while I’m driving.) I’d like to read the other books in this series and see if the mysteries contained in them are as good as the one in Sleep Tight.

Psycho, obsessive husband or crazy, psychotic wife? Who do you trust when both stories oppose each other - one supporting the husband taking the children and fleeing, leaving the wife in the dust. The other, with a very convincing story about a wife with mental problems who forgot about the weekend getaway planned with just the husband and the kids. Even after the husband returns with the kids and the seemingly sad and sorrowful expression towards his poor, forgetful wife, Chief Inspector Tom Douglas can't help but think something more is going on. His doubts are confirmed when later down the road, the wife and children go missing. Except for this time, no one returns and it seems as though the husband might be the crazy one. But is he? Suspicious evidence and witnesses seem to contradict both sides again, not surprisingly.

Great plot-twisting, psychological thriller with an ending that is almost expected, but not as you would think. Rachel Abbott masterfully created each character with conflicting personalities that worked so well together in order to create the perfect concoction of competing temperments. This book was somewhat predictable, but there were so many other small puzzles to solve that my interest was held throughout the entire book, and the ending was exceptional.
