(24 groups).

2ND ROW: 6 ch.—(this forms 1st dbl. tr. of 1/2 group) and 2 more dbl. trs. into top of 1st 1/2 group, * miss 4 ch., (1/2 gr., 4 ch. and 1/2 gr. into top of next 1/2 gr.)—this gives a complete gr. between the grs. of last row; repeat from * ending with miss 4 ch., 1/2 gr. into top of last 1/2 gr., turn.

3RD ROW: 2 ch., * 2 d.c. in top of gr., 3 d.c. in the 4 ch. space; repeat from * ending with 2 d.c. in top of last gr., turn. (120 d.c.). 4TH ROW: 2 ch., * 1 d.c. in 1 d.c.; repeat from * to end.

6TH ROW: As 2nd. 7TH ROW: As 3rd. 8TH ROW: As 4th. Rows 5–8 inclusive form pattern.

Continue straight in pattern until 7 complete patterns have been done from start.

With right side facing, start to shape raglan armhole by omitting one 1/2 gr. inside the first and last 1/2 gr. at each end of every row until 7 complete grs. and 1/2 gr. at each end remain. Note: 8 complete patterns have been worked for the raglan shapings, making a total of 15 patterns in all from start of back; break wool.

FRONTS

Left: Make 80 ch. Work exactly as given for back (you will have 12 grs. at end of 1st row) to start of raglan shaping.

With right side facing, start to shape raglan as given for back, by decreasing one 1/2 gr. as before at beginning of next row, then on every row at this edge until 5 1/2 grs. remain. (5 complete patterns and 2 rows of 6th have been done from start of raglan shaping.) NEXT ROW: In pattern, i.e. the 3rd pattern row.

With wrong side facing, continue raglan shaping as before and at the same time shape neck by omitting 11 grs. at beginning of next row, then omitting 1/2 gr. at this edge on following 2 complete patterns.

Note: Two 1/2 grs. remain and 8 complete patterns have been worked from start of raglan shaping. Fasten off.

Right: Work as for left, reversing neck and raglan shapings.

SLEEVES

Make 120 ch. Work straight in pattern exactly as given for back (you will have 19 grs. at end of 1st row) until 7 complete patterns have been done from start.

With right side facing, work raglan sleeve shaping exactly as given for back until 2 grs. and 1/2 gr. at each end remain (you will have worked 8 complete patterns for the shaping so that sleeves match back exactly). Fasten off.

BORDERS

Press parts very carefully on wrong side under a damp cloth. Join raglan seams neatly, matching the patterns exactly.

Lower edge of Back: With right side facing, 2 d.c. in base of 1st gr., * 4 d.c. in next 5 ch. loop, 1 d.c. in base of next gr.; repeat from * to last gr., 2 d.c. in last gr., (117 d.c.), turn with 2 ch. Continue in plain d.c. for a further 16 rows; fasten off.

Fronts and back of Neck: Start at side seam of lower edge of right front. With right side facing, work 2 d.c. in base of 1st gr., * 4 d.c. in 5 ch. loop, 1 d.c. in base of next gr.; repeat from * along lower edge to corner of right front, (59 d.c.), 1 d.c. in corner (mark corner stitch with contrast thread); continue up right front edge to start of neck shaping with * (4 d.c. up side of next 1/2 gr.) twice, 4 d.c. up side of d.c. pattern rows, making 12 d.c. in all up side of each complete pattern; repeat from * to start of neck shaping (156 d.c. up front), 1 d.c. in corner of neck shaping (mark with thread as before), 110 d.c. all round neck to start of neck shaping on left front, 1 d.c. in corner of neck shaping (mark as before), 156 d.c. down left front
