      My father had sworn that if Richard Nixon were re-elected, he would leave the country. Feelings were running strong at the time, but many people who said this later decided that Nixon, though hell-spawn, wasn't bad enough to leave their nice jobs for.

      My father, however, didn't have a nice job. Belize is lovely any time of year, and through his connections (he knows everybody) he was able to land a job as a tutor on Ambergris Cay. And free use of a house. My father can get free use of a house anywhere, a useful skill to one of his political convictions.
