A Personal Introduction to Home Design Made Easy

Welcome to the first step of making what is arguably the largest purchase of your life!

    Your new home.

I strongly believe that you made an excellent choice in purchasing The Home Design Made Easy Course. When you get into the multi-faceted area of designing a home, it really pays off in peace-of-mind to know what you are getting into before you start the process. I believe this course solidly accomplishes that.

Why do I call this a course rather than just a regular book?

That is a question you should be asking and I hope my answer drives home the point very clearly and helps your purchase and use of this work surpass even my expectations.

The answer is simple: because it is!

I didn't want to simply write just another e-book that is purchased in the heat of emotional excitement and then only browsed or even forgotten later. It had to be something that is structured. Something that makes you think.

Even more, to be really effective, it needed to be something that makes you think about what you are thinking about. Let that sink in for a bit…

Let me repeat that. I want to make you think about what you are thinking about.

In other words, we often think about things without really digging into why. This course is designed to get you thinking about why you want - or don't want (which is also fine!) certain features in your new home. Due to the nature of designing and building your own home for the long term, the more you think about why or why not will in most cases push you into making better decisions.

You also will not find chapters in this book. For basically the same reason. This book is not about just reading - it's about doing!

Instead of chapters, each section is called a Design Lesson. Because it is. It's something that you will want to deliberately interact with in order to get the most value.

As a special gift, the end of this course contains a series of pages with questions you can print out and use as you see fit to help you think through the design process.

Remember, this is about YOUR home design. Not somebody else's. Obviously you will reference other people's homes for the purpose of what you like or don't like. But at the end of the day, this is about you and what you want or don't want for your unique circumstances, lifestyle, goals, preferences, etc.

Remember to keep that simple little tidbit front-and-center of all your designing activities and thoughts. It can be easy for information overload to sneak in and overwhelm you as you start looking at all the possibilities. Don't worry about what could be but rather stay focused on what could be best for me?!

While not professing to know every little detail about every aspect of the design-build process, I have been involved in this business - well over 20 years now - long enough to raise your comfort level extremely high and make the transition from dreamer to owner very smooth. (Later on you will also discover how I can help you even more directly bring your dream to life if you want me to.)

My final encouragement before you dig into the course is simply this: enjoy the process!

Yes, some thoughts will seem difficult to reach a conclusion. Some conversations with others involved in the process may be difficult.

However, the overarching purpose of this course is to pave the way and make those things easier and more enjoyable. If I have done my job correctly yours will be much more enjoyable and fulfilling. For years to come!

    To your new dream home,

    DESIGN LESSON #1:

    THE DREAM

    Solidifying Ideas

I think everyone has a dream of building a dream home some day. Some have big aspirations of a multi-thousand square foot mansion, perhaps with a built-in swimming pool, 4-car garage; while the majority of us just dream of having a nice piece of land where we can build a very nice, usable home where function and style go hand-in-hand.

Whatever the dream may be, it all starts with the same procedures. No matter who your builder is or how good he is, there is no magic button that can be pushed to build your private paradise. Certain principles apply and they need to be followed, or you will end up
