How It All Began
Genesis 1
You look like a rabbit. And I’ll call you a turtle,
Adam said. He took the job of naming the animals very seriously.
How did you think of making so many animals?
Adam asked God.
Let me tell you how the world was made,
God answered.
In the beginning, everything was dark and empty. I said, ‘Let there be light!’ and light came. I made day and night and earth and sky. Then I filled the land with every kind of plant.
That must have taken a long time,
Adam interrupted.
Three days.
Three days?
Adam was amazed. What did you do next?
The fourth day I sprinkled stars in the night sky, made the sun to light the day, and the moon to light the night,
God said.
The fifth day I filled the oceans with all kinds of things that swim.
When did you make birds?
Adam asked.
That same day. I filled the sky with all kinds of things that fly.
The sixth day I made animals. Then I turned my attention to you,
God continued.
Me?
Adam didn’t know what to think.
Yes, I made you, Adam, to be able to think and make decisions. You can love and care for others.
Wow, that’s awesome. What did you do next?
Adam wondered.
I looked around at all I had made and I liked everything I saw. So on the seventh day, I rested,
God said.
Becoming a Man of God
A man of God is made in God’s image.
God made people in his image. We can think and make decisions and learn the difference between right and wrong.
You are made in God’s image. He made you the way you are. Learn about the talents God gave you and how you can use them to help other people.
A Verse to Remember
So God created humans in his image.
In the image of God he created them.
He created them male and female.
Genesis 1:27
The Bite That Changed the World
Genesis 3
Eve, what are you doing?
Adam asked. You heard God say ‘Everything in the garden is for you, but don’t touch the tree in the middle of the garden.’ Now you’re eating fruit from that tree. You’re in big trouble!
Relax, God didn’t mean it. That snake explained it to me,
Eve said as she pointed out the snake.
The snake said that if we ate this fruit we would be more like God. I tasted it and I didn’t die. Come on, give it a try,
Eve said.
This is the sweetest, juiciest fruit you’ll ever taste,
she teased.
Adam grabbed it out of her hand and sank his teeth into it. "This is delicious," he mumbled, as juice dripped down his chin.
Out of the corner of his eye Adam saw the snake slither away. Eve, do you know what we’ve done?
Adam said. Tears rolled down his cheeks. God gave us one rule but we broke it. We disobeyed him.
Later that day, God came looking for Adam and Eve. They were hiding because they were ashamed. God knew what had happened. Adam, I know what you and Eve have done, and I’m sad that you disobeyed me. I have to punish you. You’ll have to leave the garden and find a new place to live. But even though I punish you I still love you.
Becoming a Man of God
A man of God knows God loves him, no matter what.
Adam and Eve could think and make decisions. They disobeyed and that meant God had to punish them, but he didn’t stop loving Adam and Eve when they sinned.
Everybody sins. But when we sin, we can ask God to forgive us and he will.
A Verse to Remember
I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love which Christ Jesus our Lord shows us.
Romans 8:38
Water Works
Genesis 6–9
I know it’s a good thing that Dad is building the boat, but it sure is hard work,
Shem said.
After breakfast Shem, Ham, and Japheth helped their dad work on the boat. God told him to build it because a huge flood was coming. God was tired of the evil way people lived—everyone except their dad, Noah. He obeyed God. That’s why God warned him about the flood.
One day, after the boat was finished, Japheth shouted, Dad, animals are marching straight toward the boat!
Noah smiled. "God is sending two of every kind of animal. He wants them to be safe too. After the flood, they will have babies so there will be
