    Introduction

    T

his book is a live teaching of Anadi, transcribed from a single retreat. Each retreat is a process of diving into an increasingly more profound experiential understanding of various stages and aspects of human evolution, a process of actualizing the state of wholeness and transcendence. The subject of this book is a clarification of the most subtle dimension of awakening – the realization of pure me, of that innermost consciousness which bridges the human with the soul and through which our higher being can become embodied as the true I am. This aspect of awakening has been neither understood nor touched upon by any past traditions of enlightenment on this plane. Hence the knowledge brought forth here is revolutionary in nature – it opens human consciousness to a higher level of truth and light.

This knowledge is so precious. It must be contemplated deeply within the context of spiritual practice that is itself rooted in a conceptual understanding of the teaching as a whole. Anyone who attempts to translate the insights presented here through the conceptual tools of the past teachings will only create the illusion of understanding; this subtle truth, revealed from the very depth of reality, will become another facet of the false. This teaching is not merely a continuation of past human evolution – its spirit is rooted in the future. Without the adept’s ability to transcend the knowledge of the past, in this quantum leap of evolutionary awakening beyond awakening, its message will remain hidden to his intelligence. It is divine discontentment that inspires the never-ending search for a higher truth, a search which honors our universal evolution beyond the false comfort and security of past understandings.

For those who wish to explore this teaching, it is essential to study Book of Enlightenment which offers a general overview of the path as a whole. However, as the teaching is constantly evolving, even Book of Enlightenment should be perceived as a foundation for further understanding; it is an entry into the inner path and not a final conclusion. To follow this teaching in a real way one has to attend retreats, listen to the recordings of those retreats and above all, receive direct guidance from Anadi.

    Editor’s Note

During the concluding phase of this retreat a new and crucial layer of me was revealed – conscious me. In order to fully elucidate this important subject, four meditation meetings were held directly after the conclusion of the retreat. These meetings form ‘Awakening of Conscious Me’, the second, short section of this book.

Furthermore, this revelation brought about a change in terminology so that the concepts used could more accurately reflect the multidimensional reality of me: that which was called ‘conscious me’ prior to this revelation is now called ‘the observer’.

For the sake of clarity, we have implemented this change in terminology retrospectively, meaning that each time the term ‘conscious me’ appeared in the text with its prior meaning, we replaced it with ‘the observer’. In this way what you read will differ from the original recordings.

The only exceptions to this occur in talks 42, 52 and 53 during which the transition between old and new terminology was being made. In these talks the term ‘conscious me’ should be read as ‘the observer’.

For further clarification it is recommended that you read talk 54: ‘The Final Revelation About Me – Evolution Beyond the Observer’, alongside talks 42, 52 and 53. Precise definitions of these terms can also be found in the glossary.

    Retreat, May 2011

    Opening Meditation

Entering retreat is like entering a ship. The ship has a purpose and someone is directing it towards its destination, but where it goes depends on the ocean.

The ocean is alive: it knows the ship and it responds to the sincerity of intention of those who are on the ship. Their sincerity, intelligence and maturity is what ultimately determines whether the ship will get lost or reach its destination – the land of reality, the forgotten land. No one knows about that land anymore. It is the greatest, deepest and most hidden secret and yet reaching it is the true and only reason for our existence. Otherwise it is indeed better not to be alive.

Our inner work is a complex process of awakening all of the faculties through which we can reach our destination and realize the truth of our existence. In a human being many elements need to be transformed and aligned to create the foundation from which his destination can be reached, from which he can arrive back to reality from this dream, from this unreality, from this dimension which is so fundamentally false as to be non-existent, from this illusion that appears to be real but is not.

We are sitting in the core of our very self, investigating, diving into establishing ourselves in our pure existence. Beyond the commotion of the human mind and all the states of dullness, unconsciousness and sleepiness, there is a reality that is vivid and clear, infinitely peaceful and free. To enter that reality, to abide in it, our perception has to be totally transformed. And the one who embodies the quality of knowing within that dimension is who we truly are – our fundamental me – which has to be awakened. Without this awakening, even the opening of the inner states, even having access to the dimensions beyond the mind, is insufficient: it will not manifest abiding peace. Our sacred me has to be realized as the foundation in order to enter reality and embody it as our very self.

Only complete dedication to the task of awakening to our soul, to our true existence, total dedication that knows no compromise, can manifest the necessary grace of existence that allows us to cross over the thick, muddy, sticky, gross dimension of ignorance. All the dust you have accumulated in the outer world, all the psychological states, moods and mental content, must be dropped so that you can be purely yourself, so that you can abide in the heart of your existence. From there, true evolution can begin.

The birth of the real within a human being – how it matures into awakening, into the realization of itself within that fragile, relative consciousness of the human – is the highest miracle in this dimension. In a dimension in which everything is completely uncertain – where everything can be destroyed, eradicated and dissolved – something that is absolute, that nothing can touch, is awakening, is manifesting the unconditional security based on reality, on the truth of the universal self, on the light of the beyond.

    two

Pure Me – the Missing Link

Meditation begins when we have an abiding place beyond the mind. This is the beginning, the entry into the dimension of meditation.

The mind is the construct of the personal human self based on thoughts and emotions, and if we go deeper, based on the sense of me. Because humans are so fundamentally unconscious, they cannot extract their sense of me from psychological movement: it is so locked in the mind that it cannot be separated from it. Only when we can separate that sense of me from the mind can we recognize the root problem of our human existence, which is the essence of separation itself, the essence of not having an abiding place in reality, the essence of suffering. It is that very me that has no place to be except through thoughts and perceptions.

All these so-called meditation schools or techniques perpetuate ignorance by trying to give me something to do, instead of transcending the fundamental problem through opening up the place of abidance in which me can simply rest and be connected to something universal, to something which stands at the core of its existence. To have an abiding place beyond the mind is, to use different words, to have a connection to the universal.

The energy of I am, the consciousness of I am, is not personal. It becomes personalized, in a manner of speaking, when me merges with it. This is what we call ‘embodying’. When me embodies the impersonal energy of I am, this is what we call the realization or awakening of the soul. The soul is the meeting between pure me and the impersonal energy of I am.

When we say that most human beings do not have a soul it means that firstly, they have no access to I am – that the universal energy of I am is not present within their existence – and secondly, that they do not have pure me. These two fundamental ingredients are missing in order for the soul to become the soul.

One of the elements of our practice is to relocate ourselves in existence by moving to that place beyond the mind, so that we are not just experiencing something which is beyond thoughts but actually moving into that dimension and beginning to live in it. Without that relocation of our sense of self from the subconscious reality, from the mind, forgetfulness or personality to the space of pure subjectivity, there is no meditation, there is no spiritual path – there is just nothing.

You live in the inner realm, in the consciousness of I am: that is the fundamental reality. This is simply a fact. Only when you live unconditionally and in an unbroken way in that plane can you extend your existence by connecting to creation, to the world. Only then can you begin to live in the outer reality as well: you live in the outer reality only because you live in the inner reality. If you do not live in the inner reality, you are not living in the outer reality either. You are like a walking corpse, a pitiful, fragmented subconscious self that seems to be living but is actually dying.

The relocation of our sense of self into the inner dimension has to be absolute. There are obviously levels to our entry into the inner dimension, but from the very beginning of the path, which is the awakening of consciousness, it should be absolute. There is no wavering, no being in-between. One has to step in and never leave.

After pure consciousness is awakened and established, the proper equilibrium has to be reached between that consciousness and the observer and subconscious me. For this equilibrium to be reached, me has to be in a state of surrender to consciousness. This equilibrium means that the mind becomes a natural, transparent extension of consciousness rather than a contradictory force to our pure nature, meaning that the mind is not able to create something on top of pure consciousness that is not pure. Because there is enough surrender to consciousness, each moment the mind arises, each moment the observer and subconscious me manifest, they are being emptied of psychological content. Psychological content always follows energetic content, which is how subconscious energies are being created in the head. Therefore, thinking and surrendering to our fundamental consciousness should be simultaneous, so that the equilibrium is maintained. At first this requires a degree of discipline, but eventually it becomes a natural state.

For this surrender to be fully actualized, embraced and digested, we must become one with consciousness. We must awaken that very one who is reaching unity with consciousness, who can embody the state of surrender – our fundamental me, pure me, that which is not the observer, not subconscious me, that which is much more subtle, much more intimate to our existence. That one is non-existing unless it is awakened. That one is the missing link, the bridge between the human self, the observer, and the universal reality.

Awakening to pure me, realizing this deepest intimacy with our core identity, understanding of that one and, based on that, mastering the art of surrender, is the subject of this retreat.

We become one with our consciousness, which simply means that our me surrenders to it more deeply, until the duality between me and consciousness is merged. We check the quality of our consciousness: Does it have strength? Is it transparent? Is it clear? Is it rooted? We check the relationship between our consciousness and our mental reality: Are mental energies present? Are they present just on the surface or are they pulling us away from abidance in consciousness? In both cases, we attempt to dissolve them through empowering the light of I am. In the correct state there are no mental energies. The whole space is empty, restful and transparent.

Just being, we are one with consciousness and one with the process of constant surrender to consciousness. This is not a contradiction because even in the state of unity with consciousness there is a subtle duality between me and I am. This duality is fundamental to the dynamics of human consciousness and, ideally, should not create a split. It is through this subtle duality that consciousness is alive and intelligence can operate. However, it should be experienced within the state of unity, meaning that me is no longer experiencing itself outside of pure consciousness but inside it.

Pure me is leading a dual life. It is constantly surrendering to pure consciousness, to the beyond, and yet it is open to creation. It is bridging pure consciousness with the dimensions of subconscious me and the observer.

When you sit in meditation and the space of consciousness is open, energetically present – meaning you have a place in which to abide – the first thing you experience is the impersonal energy. When one is not awakened existentially, this impersonal energy can be objectified and not understood. This is usually the cause of the confusion that follows the energetic awakening of pure consciousness.

If one is not awakened to pure me, the next thing that one can recognize is the presence of the observer that is either drawn into thinking or trying to create some kind of relationship with the open space of consciousness. However, this relationship is always imperfect because the observer cannot merge with that consciousness: it is always outside it. This is why many seekers long to pacify, get rid of or suspend the observer. However, at this stage it cannot be done, or only by artificial means such as going into different mystical states. It cannot be done because the link is missing – the one who can become one with consciousness.

As you rest in the space of consciousness, just being there, not observing it, the next thing you can recognize is a subtle sense of knowing. This pure knowing that is inherent to resting in consciousness is your pure me. Pure knowing is in fact pure me. Pure knowing cannot manifest unless there is an abiding place, which is the consciousness of I am. Pure me cannot come into existence without I am awakening first. I am can awaken without pure me, but pure me cannot awaken without I am.
