About this ebook

I am thrilled to share my blog in cookbook form with you.
It all started with my passion for food...
I come from a foodie family; a cousin and my brother both professionally trained chefs; my dad has worked with one of SA’s top chefs and has been in the restaurant industry for most of his life.
Growing up, I’ve always been exposed to new and different food, never really following the norm.
We’ve also travelled a lot and I’ve experienced some very interesting and fabulously exotic food from different cultures.
Recently my passion for food and eating it has evolved into a passion for eating well; enjoying food that not only satisfies the soul, but also nourishes the body in a healthy and nutritious way.
All my recipes are low carb, or LCHF {Low Carb High Fat} and most of them also Paleo, as this is how we eat at home.
This is not a diet book, nor is it a book that aims to give nutritional guidance or eating plans, it is a source of fabulous, easy to prepare and family-friendly LCHF meals.
This book is all about the enjoyment of food – in its real form – and to show you that you can eat well and healthy without compromising on taste or pleasure.
All the dishes are low carb and real – nothing processed; no sugar, wheat or other nasties.
Our own personal ‘diet’ – or rather lifestyle – stems from a combination of following a Paleo, Primal and LCHF lifestyle.
We want to feel good and be healthy – and still enjoy food!

Hi, I'm Heidi and I'm a Foodie...I love to eat good food, hence I love to cook.I also like to be healthy and active and I believe that good food doesn't have to be compromised by leading a healthy lifestyle. Or the other way round - health doesn't need to be compromised by loving food and loving to eat good food. {And by 'good food', I mean 'gourmet', 'tasty', 'yum', 'lick-your-fingers-it's-so-good' food!}Three years ago {more or less...} my husband and I decided to give up carbs. We stopped eating grains and processed carbs, like bread, pastas, rice, etc. We also cut out sugar to a large degree and all processed foods. This is not a diet we went on, but rather a new lifestyle path.I don't believe in dieting! If you make some temporary change to your 'diet' in order to lose weight or whatever, you're bound to go back to your old ways once you've reached your goal, unless you decide to stick to it for life, and then it might just be a boring old life ahead of you...I decided {for various reasons, health being the main one} to make certain permanent changes to my diet:*no more carbs {except for those in vegetables, but not potatoes}*no more sugar {where possible}*no more processed foods {everything I make comes from whole, natural ingredients}Being a foodie and all, I want to help inspire people to cook good, wholesome and tasty food.No extremes of measuring and weighing every single protein, fat or whatever, just the principles I listed above. This is not a dieting site, nor do I give any nutritional advice, apart from the facts that are true in my life. You should listen to your body and do what feels right for you {while sticking to those principles...}.My recipes are mostly Paleo, often Banting, always Low Carb - I'd love for you to share and enjoy my recipes!

    Acknowledgements

I am so blessed to have so many wonderful and supportive people in my life, but I’d especially like to thank a few extra-special people:

Thanks to my parents {Arno & Irene} who raised me to be a foodie.

Thanks for always making me try new things and for being adventurous eaters yourselves.

Not only giving me this exposure, but also in believing in me and encouraging me – even from a young age, as I flexed my entrepreneurial muscles selling all kinds of arts & crafts as a kid…

    {I also really appreciate the fact that you’re joining us on this healthier lifestyle path.}

Thanks to my amazing husband {Eben} for always being a willing guinea pig and my biggest cheerleader!

Thank you for your patience and funding of my projects.

    Thanks for believing in me.

Thanks to my boys {Sebastian & Francois} who inspire and appreciate my food {most of the time} and patiently await dinner while I photograph away…

I hope my persistence will pay off and you will reap the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and a more experienced palate – I know you will, and I hope you will continue appreciating it as you grow older.

Thank you to all my friends who always inspire, encourage and compliment me, always making me feel like the best hostess!

For those that have given me some great recipe ideas and inspiration.

Thank you also to each and every one of my friends and family that has encouraged me to write this book and to keep on doing my thing - you know who you are…

And last, but definitely not least, thank you to each of you who ‘like’ my Facebook posts, my page and subscribe to my blog.

    BREAKFAST FIX

Triple Coconut Chia Pudding Breakfast Parfaits

    What a mouthful!

So, have you ever tried chia seeds? Well, I was a bit sceptic at first, and also not really sure about its status – is it a seed, wheat, what is it?

Well, it IS classified as a wholegrain, but is extremely low in carbs, as most of it is just fibre…

It’s also very high in anti-oxidants, omega-3’s and other good stuff!

So, have it once in a while…

Chia seeds have a strange texture, kind of gel-like with a crispy centre.

It sounds a bit different, but is actually quite good.

They need to be soaked and will take on the flavour of the liquid it’s soaked in.

So, here is my recipe for a scrummy Chia Pudding Breakfast Parfait:

    Servings: 4
