You will then be instructed on how to cast your yarn onto the needles as well as to cast off to complete your projects. This will be followed by lessons on how to knit stitch and purl stitch which are the most basic knitting stitches. With these stitches alone you will be able to complete beautiful projects. This book includes a quick instruction on how to make a simple scarf.  You will also be provided information on the most common abbreviations and terms so that you can read and follow simple patterns.

      Introduction

      This book is designed to demonstrate the basic information you need to know to quickly become a knitter. Once you become interested in the craft you begin to notice the increasing number of people knitting in public places, such as passengers while travelling and even parents at their children’s activities. The art of knitting provides a nice mental break from stressors of life. You become present in the here and now moment. Yet it allows you to be able to continue enjoying conversations with others or observing your child’s activity. You do not need many items to knit; therefore, you can easily take it on your travels. Another nice thing about knitting is that it can be taught to children and adults—it is never too late to learn.

      With the basic stitches, known as the knit and purl, you will be able to create beautiful projects from scarves to bags to hats. You will learn how to start (cast on) and to end (cast off) your projects. The book will discuss to you the pros and cons of the different types of knitting
