Talking Humans to Humanity - Mysson Humane
The Hidden Treasure
The reality is that, in many cases we do not know what we are capable of achieving until we try, we do not know our limits until we test them

Occasionally, I have challenged young people- friends and colleagues alike- into the self-identification question Who are you?
The response I get is quite an alarming one. The unfortunate part however, is that we have allowed ourselves to be defined by the extensives, the non-necessaries, the non-inclusives and the merely acquired titles: careers and professions. This is both a wrong and a blackmailing view of human worth.
A wrong perception of who we really are is marketed on the life-market while the genuine real quality of us is narrowly missed. We nurture the ‘fake us’ while we slowly weaken and malnourish the ‘real us.’ It is prudent to know that, with your career put aside, you remain who you are; you remain you! You can never be your job or your car. Never ever will you be your dressing despite their luxurious figures. You are way past your profession and your career. You are too smart to limit yourself to material possessions and services which are merely acquired and lost in the course of living.
A wrong perception of who we really are is marketed on the life-market while the genuine real quality of us is narrowly missed. We nurture the ‘fake us’ while we slowly weaken and malnourish the ‘real us.’
While addressing a small crowd of ambitious ladies and gentlemen, almost in a twist of events, a pretty light lady threw the challenge back to me, Mysson, who are you?
Honestly speaking, I was stuck, not necessarily because I didn’t expect the question, but frankly because I didn’t know who I was! There she stood, full of youth, glamour and pizzazz, her tiny eyes burning with eagerness. For a moment, I too couldn’t clearly define my identity. Then an idea struck me almost immediately and I began to beam with excitement. Facing the lady, smiling and with confidence, I whispered, but on a microphone, I am me!
What followed was long laughter that came narrowly as a relief from tension which was, from second to second, continuing to pile up inside me; adding to the fact that being on stage and hundreds of eyes facing you, is in itself a hefty task.
Mirroring Back
Taking a mirror has never hurt, has it? We do it on a daily basis but we always, almost on a daily basis, miss the point on it. Take a moment and look at yourself in the mirror. Steal a glance on that beautiful face; soft and desirable to touch. Admire your little eyes that make many shy off. Steadily gaze and intently observe your good-looking teeth; white or brown, colour doesn’t matter. Have a look at your nose; whether rounded or pointed, it does its job quite amicably. Now turn to your hair, all ranging from curly, shoulder-length, braids and wavy: yours lies amongst them.
Knowing who the real you is, gives you stability in life.
They are pretty white or pretty black. Your whole self is worth a stare from you and a glance from others. Am sure you like the person on the mirror. She is gorgeous. He looks attractive- with a kind personality which shows clearly on the face. He looks handsome. She is a charming beauty- old and young alike. There is satisfaction in smooth skin but the wrinkled one harbours knowledge and wisdom. Now imagine. No, this is not an imagination, it’s a reality. This is far from illusions and hallucinations of marijuana. The person you’ve been admiring is none other than the one and the only-you.
Debunking the Myth
Having gone early for the 10:00 am lecture; my friends, Mike, John and I decided to have a chat at the food outlet. Amidst conversation, Mike remarked, guys, it is really hard to convince people.
Without giving it a thought, I chipped in boldly, Mike, it’s not hard to convince people.
This was perhaps an awkward if not a nasty counter-attack comment. The two allies marveled and in unison, they asked, What’s hard?
Looking at them, just to make sure I knew what I was saying, I replied, It is hard to convince yourself that you can actually convince people.
Surprisingly, Mike gave me a pat on the shoulder as John made his usual short surprised laugh.
Essentially, there are a lot of things we believe and known as facts, yet a slight reasoning proves that they are coated lies. Partiality of success where we tend to believe that:
● Some people are more blessed than others
● Some families are more privileged than others
● Some people are more destined to succeed than others
● Some communities are better in this or that than others
● Some people are more clever and witty than others
The general belief that some people are destined to succeed while others are not is a myth. So whether you believe you can or you can’t, whether the gods are against you or not, you should never forget that no one is a junk, garbage or a good-for-nothing being. Facts need no form of reasoning, but sometimes a little proof or demo will. Facts are apparent and visible from afar. We’ve got blacks and whites, males and females and hundreds of tribes and all of those cannot be mistaken at any instance. Whether the odds are against you or not, whether you were born during a certain season or the other, the lament remains solely personal.
Generally speaking, no one is a wretch or destined to be. Here, I tend to believe that for me to convince you that we are all important, before I move ahead to tell you that you are a treasure. You and I are beautiful in the making, with or without make-up. Natural beauty. I am not a mistake. You are not on earth erroneously. It is therefore time we change our walking style. In this case, I mean no longer walking like rained-on chickens, but boldly like lads who have re-discovered themselves and known their true worth. It is true that God has got great plans for us but unless we develop the right identity of ourselves, these sovereign plans will last to be dreams. Remember you are as good as your last belief.
Self-esteem is indisputable. Go out with your head erect as this earns you respect and attention out there where everyone is busy about their businesses in town
Gideon regarded himself as the least in his family. He counted himself a looser, weak, unable and good for nothing man. He lacked confidence in himself as a man. He thought of himself as poor as a peasant, but the angel of God appeared to him and referred to him as a Mighty Man. Clearly Gideon had a wrong perception of his life.
Like Gideon, many of us have had to go hungry and thirsty, living in situations which were not meant for them while stooping so low as to accept the unacceptable. We are all lions but lately we’ve been competing with zebras for grass; not knowing that zebras were a good a meal for dinner! By adopting the Chicken-Ground-Scratching mentality, we have automatically abandoned the Eagle-High-Soaring- mentality. We are all kings and queens wallowing in the mud. We are presidents and emperors competing for dirty foods at the dumpsite. We are princes and princesses wandering in the trash. We have lost ourselves and lived in the odd places as we keep on insisting on what deems to be true and right.
Calling it Quits!
Throwing blame on the circumstances is a great form of self-harm and a suicidal move which slowly slaughters any initiative of getting over the misfortune. Your best days lie after the poverty background you were born in. Best and high sales lie after the fire incident. No one needs to have been born noble in order to wine and dine with the kings and queens. You don’t need to have been born in ‘that family’ in order to rub shoulders with the high and mighty. Just like any ladder, the ladder of success can be climbed up by anyone. You got to dance your own tune and navigate your way up there. It is time you flip through the pages of your ‘Life-Book,’ leaving no stone unturned because no dream should fail to materialize on the basis of low self-esteem and continuous victimization and stigmatization of self, geared by myths and common fictitious statements.
There is less to failing, but more to failure .All failures have failed, but not all those who fail are failures!
-Mysson Humane
Emphasizing, your best days could be after horrible days of dark nights, fire incident and heavy downpour of losses. When Thomas Edison’s factory burned to the ground, he lost over an equivalent of Kshs 8.5 million. As he stood there with regret watching the factory go up in flames, his son Charlie asked him, Dad, what do we do now?
Thomas Edison said, Charlie, there is one good thing about a disaster, it always burns up our mistakes.
No! You cannot be!
No, you cannot be way below the standards. You cannot be a looser. You cannot be a failure simply by failing. There is less to failing, but more to failure. All failures have failed, but not all those who fail are failures! Even if you believe you are one, you are not the only failure in the neighborhood. To some extent, we are all failures. For great things to have been done, silly things might have been done. I believe you can, I believe you will. That’s why I believe in #TalkingHumans2Humanity. I don’t believe in never failing but I believe in remaining resolute and resilient in the face of failure. Its time you start owning your own life by believing you can, less someone ‘volunteers’ to really ‘own’ it for you!
At many times we shall have to let ourselves to be ourselves. Decisions that we make day in day out will have an immense impact on our lives. So, if at all, at any point in our lives we let someone think for believe in animals us, when we can think for ourselves or to carry us when we can walk on our own, then we shall have no one but ourselves to blame if things fail to work out. I wish I knew,
then becomes the song of the day and what follows are streams of regrets... Do not be ensnared.
What I Believe in
I believe in people. I believe in those lads with the ability to think reason and resonate, and to which this book is written. I believe in people ‘because that’s the simplest thing you can do yet with marvelous outcomes. I believe in Talking Humans to Humanity. I believe in those lads who can give voice to their ideas and able to listen thoughtfully and critically on the ideas off others. I believe in the great potentials that these individuals harbor. Realizing these potentials could turn the world completely and set the tongues waggling. I believe we can soar high like eagles, through and past the sky. We can live what we purports. We can realize what we dream, driving luxurious cars and living in the modern self-contained houses. We can be of help. We can be of positive impact to those around us. We can touch someone’s life.
Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation
-Oscar Wilde
Each day we live gives us an assurance that a lot is yet to be done and a revelation that much is still untapped in us. As the sun sets and arises again and hurries down the horizon, we are reminded that we have been given another chance lay the bricks right, re-align the corner-stones, to smile, to, laugh, to cry, to love, to care, to encourage, to work, to inspire, to instill discipline, to correct, to learn, to grow, to Live!
Jewels cannot be Thrown Away
We are all special in a way. We are a jewel everyone is looking for. Your worth is immeasurable. Probably, your talent is the most expensive in the continent. You are a rare gift which everyone is dying for. You are a real treasure, scarce, hidden and infrequent. But we are humans, right? We are fond of mistakes. We err we stumble. But that doesn’t change the fact you are a treasure, jealously guarded. Once someone has us, he or she finds it difficult to let us go. Despite how stubborn and obstinate we may become, they will still find a way and a reason to hold us back.
Marco, an old friend, is a humble yet a funny lot to be with. While walking home after a thrilling football match, he tactfully
