The Humility of Fame
"And they pressed into service a passer-by coming from the country,
Simon of Cyrene…to bear His cross."
Mark 15:21 NAS
Mention greatness and fame comes to mind. Yet the two are miles apart.
Greatness includes achieving a high goal.
Fame means name recognition by many people. Simon of Cyrene in Africa had instant fame thrust him by a sudden, random pick from a crowd. He felt the tap on the shoulder of the flat of a Roman spear. At the moment he most likely bitterly resented the imposition. Yet carrying Jesus’ cross may have been a first step to his conversion (see Romans 16:13).
Some accomplish great things for God but few know them. This side of heaven.
Others are well-known without doing anything worthwhile. More like infamous.
And a select number reach a great goal and pick up fame as well.
