    We know carbohydrates are important since they are the fuel that our body needs to function optimally; however, we need to be careful about the kind of carbohydrates we take or else you will find yourself always gaining weight even when you don’t eat as much. So, how do you determine the kinds of carbohydrates to eat? Simple carbohydrates are easily and quickly digested, they have what is known as a high glycemic index. This is a ranking on how fast a carbohydrate is converted into sugar in your body to produce energy for the body cells. Foods with high glycemic index can raise your blood sugar to very high levels than your body can manage. This can cause hormonal imbalance leading to the increased secretion of insulin, which helps regulate blood sugar level. Since insulin is also a fat storing hormone, high amounts of insulin in the body will necessitate the storage of more fat for energy. This will lead to rapid weight gain and obesity.
