If you've tried and failed to improve your posture with exercise, or by trying to sit or stand up straight, this new program is for you. This innovative 'no exercise' approach to getting a better posture, is based on The Alexander Technique, the world-renowned movement system. Rather than waste time using exercises that fail to deliver long-term results, these techniques take only minutes, and many need only to be done once!
Bad posture is often caused by poor movement patterns that have become a habit. These habits can't be changed by exercise or by trying to sit or stand properly. Long-term improvements can only be gained by addressing the cause direct. The techniques in this program will help you recognize these habits, and then change them for good. Many people using this approach see their posture improve in just days - without the need to exercise.
Many aches and pains can be related to poor posture. This is because some of your muscles are working harder than they should, just to keep you upright. Conventional advice on sitting and standing straight, make things worse as people tend to stiffen and tighten even more, in an attempt to get their posture ‘right’. Yet, this is the very last thing you should do.
If your posture is poor, it’s because you’re doing something wrong that pulls your body out of shape. To bring about a permanent change, you need to learn exactly what you’re doing wrong – and just stop doing it. Then you’ll see fast AND long-lasting results.

How To Improve Your Posture Without Exercise - Roy Palmer
Introducing The Program
Hands up if you have tried to improve your posture using exercise? How long did you keep up with it? Did it really help? Or as soon as you got into your car or sat at your desk did your old habits creep back in? Exercises are boring! We all know it but we continue to look for the miracle exercise program that will solve our problems.
Now, hands up if you’ve tried to improve your posture by trying to stand and sit up straight? How long could you maintain your ‘new, improved’ shape before you either forgot to do it or your muscles started to ache? It’s not easy is it? As soon as you become distracted you resort back to your habitual shape. This is because your posture is not about shape at all – it’s about you! So in order to improve your posture you need to go deeper than just re-organising your body parts – you need to assess your whole concept about your body and how it works.
Well here is the good news! You will not have to spend time on exercises with this program – just a few minutes to try a few experiments that you can apply to your daily activities whether in the office, at home or playing your sport.
This self-study program is designed to help you improve your posture by understanding how your body works. Using step-by-step procedures you will begin to appreciate how you can unknowingly interfere with your built-in reflexes for balance and posture. Prolonged misuse leads to habitual patterns of tension resulting in muscle imbalances that in turn will cause discomfort, pain and the obvious outward symptom of poor posture.
Whether you are a sports person, interested in your health and fitness, or would just like to create a better image then posture is important! However, once it has deteriorated it cannot be regained by exercise or trying harder. I appreciate this contradicts conventional thinking as there are many posture correction methods around using solely exercise to correct muscle imbalances.
I will explain later why this is the case. For now I want you to forget about setting time aside to do exercises that have little in common with your everyday actions. We are going to use simple procedures to help you balance and move with less effort and therefore allow your body to coordinate your muscles as nature intended.
The procedures used in this book are based on The Alexander Technique and they will help your appreciate how your body really wants to move and balance itself without you having to add any tension of your own.
For example, how do you react when asked to stand up straight? I would bet my house that you tighten your lower back muscles, pull your head back, thrust your chest forward and stiffen the legs. These actions are not how your body would choose to do it because they use up a tremendous amount of effort, put unnecessary stress on your joints and prevent you from breathing naturally.
This proves an interested point that few consider and that is, if you knew how to ‘stand up straight’ you would already be doing it! It’s odd isn’t that we assume we know what good posture should be like and that to correct it we just have to try harder.
So the emphasis here is to get your body to balance and support itself by removing the inappropriate tension many of us unknowingly carry around all day. The philosophy is that the less you do the more your body’s reflexes can direct and coordinate your muscles naturally. If you have an exercise ball you could try what I call ‘Top of The World’ (if you don’t you may still want to watch the video) that helps to demonstrate this theory in action. Have a go and see if it helps. To watch please see the page at my website www.e-posture.com/iyp-videos.html
