Introduction
How can a person be so strong and healthy that they can be exposed to germs and not get sick? People do this all the time and they have one main thing in common, they follow a healthy lifestyle and they eat healthy nutritious foods.
The immune system is solely responsible for keeping us healthy or allowing us to get sick. But how do we strengthen our immune system? We consume the right food. That almost sounds too easy, too simple, doesn't it? But guess what? It is that simple! We are what we eat, no doubt. If we eat junk food, guess what is compromised? That's right, the immune system. If we eat healthy whole and nutritious foods, the immune system is strengthened.
The only way to strengthen the immune system is to take nutrients. Nutrients can be taken as a supplement, but even better if it comes straight from the foods we eat. Even if the immune system is weak, all it takes is to eat nutritious foods for a while to turn that around and bring it back up to full strength. It is hard to believe that food has that much power over our health, but it does. The diet is like a medicine cabinet. If we eat junk food it is like taking recreational drugs, it makes us feel good at first, and then it has damaging effects. If we eat good food, it is like taking medicine to help strengthen the immune system and make us well.
Another way to help strengthen the immune system is by adding exercise in with the nutritious diet. Exercise helps the body to stay in shape. Our body is not meant to be sedentary. If we sit around and eat the wrong foods, those foods just sit in our body, turning into fat and because we do not move around much, it sticks with us. It is an unhealthy combination. But even doing as little as 30 minutes a day every other day will help the body to be healthier. It does not have to be anything strenuous either, doing something as simple as walking, even at a slow pace, will help.
Diet is the major way to be well and healthy. But diet and nutrition works better if we do other things for the body at the same time, like exercise as discussed above. Another area that will help the diet work better is rest. People are so busy these days they rarely carve out enough time to get proper rest. Ideally, 8 hours is the optimum amount of sleep each night. Many cannot get 8 hours, so you need to get at least 6 or 7 hours. If you cannot get a full 8 hours of sleep at least try to take a quick nap during the day. Set the alarm and sleep for just 20 minutes. That is enough time for the body to unwind and relax, but not enough time to get into full sleep. You will feel more rested afterwards. Also allow yourself to take breaks during the day, 10 or 15 minutes, where you just relax and disconnect mentally.
Stress is a robber of wellness. Stress is how the body reacts to your mental thinking during times of uncertainly and strain. If you react and allow stress to take hold, stress will affect the immune system by making it weak. The body releases stress hormones and these are what makes us feel run down, lethargic, and depressed. By eating right, you help to combat your body's reaction to stress. Nutrition also plays a role in helping the body to not release stress hormones, because you are mentally in a better place. So nutrition helps to handle stress better by changing the reaction to the stress. If you also exercise along with eating right, the body will release endorphins, a substance that helps you to feel good and help you to be rid of depression.
A positive attitude helps with the diet plan, because the body reacts to your attitude. When you go on a diet with the thought in mind of being healthier, you need to have a positive attitude about it, believing you can do. If you are negative about it or complain about it, the diet will not work, because being negative is as bad and feeling stressed, the body reacts the same way. Go into your new diet routine with a positive attitude, believing that it will help to make you well and stay well.
If you are striving to be healthier, you need to bust away from any bad habits you have. When you decide to make a lifestyle change to become healthy you also need to stop doing the things that brings harm to your body. Smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol in excess, partaking in recreational drugs, abusing prescription medications, and eating sugary and fatty junk foods are among the worse things you can do to your body. If you have a very bad addiction to any of it (aside from the food), you may need professional help to break the bad habit.
To break a junk food habit, you must do so slowly. Wean off by either cutting the junk food portions in half for a week, then in half again the next week, then quit the third. Or you can count up the number of times you eat junk food a day, and eliminate one of the times every three to four days until you are down to just once a day. Go one week with once a day, then quit that and go just one time a week if the cravings are still strong. By the time you wean off the junk food slowly like this, you will bust the craving and will not even want it. Do not eat anything in the place of junk food, but replace it with a nutritious snack as outlined in the recipes in this book. By now, you will crave the nutrition rather than the junk.
Section 1: Slow Cooker Cookbook
What Is The Difference Between a Slow Cooker and a Crock Pot?
The old style cookers were called slow cookers,
where the heating element is in a separate unit from the main food holder. Actually, larger slow cookers and crock pots
still come this way. When the crock pot
made the scene, it was with the heating element cased within the food holder all in one. If you were lucky you had a removable plug for easy cleaning. Not so lucky were the ones where the plug was a permanent fixture. Crock Pot, by the way, is a registered trademark by the Rival Manufacturing Company, but their name brand became a nickname for slow cookers.
Some slow cookers may have the heating
