    Jumper

    Black with a little white is perfect for day-wear with your black skirt or suit; or smart with slacks for the week-end

    TWO SIZES: 34–35, and 36–37

    Materials: Of Patons Beehive Fingering 4-ply, Patonised, 7 (8) ozs. Black and 1 (1) oz. White. A pair each No. 10 and No. 12 Beehive needles; a spare No. 12 needle pointed both ends. Four small white buttons; black bias binding. Press-stud.

    Measurements: To fit 34–35 (36–37) inch bust; length from top of shoulders, 22 (22) inches; sleeve seam, 2 (2) inches.

    Tension: 7 sts. and 9 rows to an inch.

    N.B.—Instructions for large size given in brackets thus ( ). Where one set of figures is given this applies to both sizes. B. = Black. W. = White.

    BACK

    With No. 10 needles and B. wool, cast on 110 (116) sts. and work 15 rows k. 1, p. 1 rib; change to W. and purl 1 row, then rib 2 rows; change to B. and knit 1 row, then rib 3 rows.

    With right side facing, change to stocking-stitch and continue in B. only and work 4 (4) inches straight, starting with a knit row. With right side facing, change to No. 12 needles and work 2 1/2 (2 1/2) inches straight for waist.

    With right side facing, change back to No. 10 needles and continue in stocking-stitch shaping sides by increasing 1 stitch at each end of 7th and every following 8th row until there are 122 (128) sts. Work straight until back measures 15 (15) inches from start.

    With right side facing, shape for sleeves by casting on 2 sts. at beginning of next 4 rows: 130 (136) sts. Work straight until sleeve edge measures 7 1/2 (7 1/2) inches.

    With right side facing, shape shoulders by casting off 12 (12) sts. at beginning of next 2 rows: 106 (112) sts. NEXT ROW: Cast off 12 (12), k. 26, k. 2 tog., turn and leave remaining sts. on a spare needle.

    Continue on these 27 sts., decreasing 1 stitch at neck edge on next 3 rows, and at the same time continue shaping shoulder by casting off 12 (12) sts. at beginning of following 2 alternate rows.

    With right side facing, return to remaining sts., slip centre 26 (32) sts. on a spare needle, k. 2 tog., knit to end. Finish to correspond with first shoulder.

    FRONT

    Work as for back until sleeve shapings are done: 130 (136) sts.

    With right side facing, divide for front opening:—NEXT ROW: k. 71 (74), turn and leave remaining sts. on a spare needle. Continue straight on first 71 (74) sts. until front measures 20 1/2 (20 1/2) inches from start.

    With wrong side facing, shape neck by casting off 14 (17) sts. at beginning of next row fairly loosely, then decrease 1 stitch at neck edge on following 9 (9) rows. Work straight until sleeve edge measures 7 1/2 (7 1/2) inches, then with right side facing, shape shoulder by casting off 12 (12) sts. at beginning of next and following 3 alternate rows, armhole edge.

    With right side facing, rejoin wool to remaining 59 (62) sts. and work straight until front measures 20 1/2 (20 1/2) inches, then with right side facing, shape neck by casting off 2 (5) sts. at beginning of next row, then decrease 1 stitch at this edge on following 9 (9) alternate rows.

    Finish to correspond with first shoulder.

    STRIPED BANDS

    Join shoulder seams. Sleeves: With right side facing, No. 12 needles and W. wool, pick up and k. 114 (114) sts. along each sleeve edge. Work 2 rows k.
