Garden Candy Basics is about vegetables. How to cook them, how to eat them, and how to love them! At its heart the book is a collection of easy-to-follow, tasty recipes and cooking tips, all intended to get everyone—even the most reluctant vegetable eaters—enthusiastic about including more vegetables in their daily meals.

It’s no secret that healthier diets lead to healthier people. But if you weren’t brought up eating vegetables or were only served them that one way your mother prepared them, you might not know what to do with say, a beet? Garden Candy Basics takes the mystery out of the most regularly available veggies and opens a world of new taste opportunity.

Garden Candy Basics shows you how to prepare easy dishes that include vegetables but this is NOT a vegetarian cookbook. You’ll find bacon, chicken and even hot dogs can have a place next to broccoli, potatoes, corn, beans, Brussels sprouts, and carrots, just to name a few.

Garden Candy Basics also presents preparation methods for each vegetable on its own so you can enjoy it raw, as a side, or in any number of other dishes.

In addition to recipes, you’ll learn ways to make your food dollars go farther and how to spend less time in the kitchen while still feeding yourself and your family well. If you’re new to the kitchen you’ll love the glossary of cooking terms and the list of commonly used kitchen tools.

An important aspect of Garden Candy Basics is that it was designed to be read on your smart phone with clear photographs and organized instructions. Sure, it looks great on your tablet or computer monitor but it is just as effective on your smartphone. So in one little book that you can keep in your pocket, you’ll have everything you need to explore a world of fresh, (or frozen!) nutrient-rich delicious veggies. You just might develop an addiction to healthier foods!

Garden Candy Basics - Christine Glade and Laura Amicucci

Welcome to Garden Candy

What is Garden Candy?

Garden Candy is a collection of easy-to-follow, and budget-friendly recipes that include vegetables.

When it comes to getting (and staying) healthy, one of the easiest things you can do is add vegetables to your diet. The more you eat, the healthier you will be. It’s really just that simple. Vegetables contain an abundance of vitamins, minerals, fiber and other nutrients that build healthy brains and bodies. Plus, they help fight against cancers, heart disease, diabetes, and other illnesses.

Garden Candy contains tasty ways for you to enjoy your favorite veggies, try new ones and re-visit vegetables you think you don’t like by preparing them in a new way.

Garden Candy is simple to follow, arranged by the main vegetable in each recipe.

Garden Candy is sensitive to your budget and your hectic schedule.

Garden Candy is a handy reference with information on how to cook each vegetable without a recipe.

What Garden Candy Isn’t:

Garden Candy is not a vegetarian cookbook. You can still enjoy that juicy burger or that awesome bacon. Garden Candy just helps you include more vegetables and balance your meals for better nutrition.

Garden Candy isn’t snobby about food. We’re not suggesting the food you buy has to be all organic, locally bought, or fresh from the farm. Canned and frozen vegetables are welcomed here and our recipes call for them right alongside the garden-fresh variety.

Garden Candy is not complicated. You don’t need a lot of special kitchen tools, advanced cooking skills, or hard-to-find ingredients to make these Garden Candy recipes.

Ways to Use Garden Candy:

Garden Candy is organized by vegetable. Swipe through the recipes and see what’s here. There’s a photo of each finished recipe. When you see a recipe you’d like to try you can bookmark it for later.

When you find a certain vegetable available at the grocery store (maybe on sale!) or fresh at the farmers market, or in your garden, you can quickly search for that vegetable in Garden Candy to find a recipe - or just directions for ways to cook it alone.

With Garden Candy on your smartphone, it’s pretty much always at your fingertips so if you forget how long beets should roast, just go to the beets section in Garden Candy.

Use the timer feature on your smartphone to remind you when to check on your cooking, or alert you when the cooking time is up.

You can also use your e-reader’s highlight and note features to make your own notes in the recipes you try. Plus many e-readers have built in dictionaries so you can get definitions for unfamiliar words.

Use the hotlinks within Garden Candy to visit the website where you’ll find even more information on cooking with vegetables, shopping for and storing vegetables, even growing vegetables indoors and out. Plus you will find bonus recipes along with useful tips and hacks that make including more veggies in your life, simple, affordable and fun.

Now let’s enjoy some Garden Candy!
