    Foreword

The first printing of this book occurred in 1992. So much has changed technically and personally since the first writing. I remember using a typewriter doing the first rough draft and using white out. Carbon copies were used to make copies. Those were the days, and I am glad they were the days. Now, we have computer, spell check, camera ready, and a concordance for A Course in Miracles. The original writing defined sixty four words. The third addition has thirty four new words for further clarification.

The Course also has had many changes take place since the initial writing of the book. One no longer needs copyright permission, as the Course in now public domain. There are two additional Supplements: Psychotherapy: Purpose, Process and Practice and The Song of Prayer. Both of these Supplements were dictated to Dr. Helen Schucman shortly after she completed the writing of A Course in Miracles. Previously you would have had to purpose both Supplements separately, and I am glad to see all of these together in one book on the Course.

I am a completely different person than I was back in 1992, as I am sure most can say the same thing. My awareness of who I am as a child of God, my interaction with my brothers and sisters, and who God is, has taken on a much deeper meaning than before. I have a better understanding of my divine purpose, more compassion for my brothers and sisters, and I’ve become a better teacher, counselor and presenter for workshops around the country.

In 2005 I became a certified PSYCH-K facilitator, and have written three other books on the Course entitled: The Relationship Game: Changing the Rules; 101 Questions and Answers on the Course; and Biblical Quotes from A Course in Miracles Reinterpreted. All these books are now distributed through Fearless Books in the e-book format.

The reasons I become involved in A Course in Miracles back in 1992 and the reason I’m rewriting this book still remain the same. I am and have been a student of A Course in Miracles since 1979 and have been teaching it since 1988. In my initial study of the Course I found that I had great difficulty understanding its content because of the fact that I was applying my old, traditional definitions to the words that I read in the book. This natural tendency made understanding the concepts presented in the Course impossible to comprehend. I realized quite early in my reading that A Course in Miracles really has a unique language all its own. As I began to understand that language, and the true meaning of the words, I was then able to begin to decipher the concepts embodied in the Course as a whole.

In my work, I also noticed that the Course uses many words interchangeably. In recognition of this fact, I have listed the major companion words, when applicable, following the pertinent words from the Course. I decided to list just the dominate ones because some by just the sheer number would have been cumbersome.

It is my hope that through unraveling the language of the Course the student will have a better understanding of the Course. But more importantly, it is my wish that the meaning will lead the student to unleash the love that is the essences of who you are as a glorious child of God.

    Acknowledgements

I would like to thank Fearless Books for carrying all my Course books in the e-book format. Charo Hacker, my mother, for proofing the first and second edition and Joan Wallace for proofing and preparing the book for e-book conversion.

    Definitions of Words and Phrases

    ABUNDANCE

When the Course uses the word abundance it is referring to the all-inclusiveness Love of God. This abundance is always with us, always guiding us regardless of our awareness of it, or if we are oblivious to this Love. In fact, there is nothing that we can do that would sever our Divine Oneness with the abundance of God.

How do we know if we have the abundance of God? The Course simply asks you a question: How do you feel? If you are joyful, your awareness is in alignment with your divine connection to God. If you are experiencing anything less than pure joy/love you have disassociated yourself from God’s bountiful Love. The abundance of God’s Love can never be used up and is ever

    expanding.

Guilt is the singular factor that prevents us from recognizing we are one with our heart’s desires. Through the
