About this ebook

The age-old balance of light and dark will always find a way to be restored. At times it comes in the form of non-discriminate karma or the heavy hand of divine will. At other times that balance comes in the form of a single, teenage girl.

My name is Fallon. I am different. I am special. My essence moves in a cadence unknown to the other Auras at the House of Eventide. It was born of the intricate dance of the moon's opposing forces; retract and advance, embrace and release. The brazen energy of the sun preys at the edges of my being; fraying its delicate balance and scorching my heart into submission. Only under the calming cover of night, can my essence shine freely.

My true identity must be kept secret at all costs. My very existence is a threat to the Aura Order I pretend to be a part of. Should my web of lies unravel, they would stop at nothing to destroy me. I am the sole descendant of the light moon goddess, Luna . I have been Chosen. This is my story.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I picked up Forsaken to read. I hadn’t read the synopsis so went into it completely blind. Hannah had a life that wasn’t all that great to be honest. She was left abandoned by her parents and a very young age and ended up in the foster care system until she was eventually adopted at the age of 14 to a well off family.Three years later Hannah started to have odd dreams and fainted a lot and was taken to a special doctor, who then sent her to live at The House of Lorelei a special school for special people Hannah thought this was going to be some kind of asylum especially since there was no way off the Island apart from boat. How wrong Hannah was, changing her name and learning a great deal about how special she was the book got more and more interesting the further I read.Forsaken is a brilliant and capturing book. I was completely hooked. The love story with Finn was so cute, learning about the powers Hannah/Stacia has and all of her other friends. Saving her friends life. The story was never dull.I read this really quickly, the anticipation was just too much I just couldn’t put the book down!My daughter is now reading this and she is loving it just as much as I did. I cannot wait to read the second book, Awaken.

Eventide (Daughters of the Sea #4.5) - Kristen Day

Prologue

Everyone is a moon, and has a dark side which he never shows to anybody.

― Mark Twain

––––––––

On a bed of starlight and silk, the two of them lay together. Mother and daughter. Mentor and student. The past and the future, who would – for now – share the present. The young girl’s dimples deepened in a smile bright enough to light the world aglow and melt the strongest of hearts. She peered up at her mother with blue eyes full of wonder and adventure. Her world had just begun. Her story had yet to be written. She longed to know what was in store for her, but the veil of destiny had not yet placed a hand onto her shoulders. Until then, she could only wish for a time when she could be as beautiful and wise as the stunning statue of a woman turning the pages of a worn, leather book. A book they had read every night before and she would beg to read every night to come.

Your turn, her mother prompted gently with an encouraging nod. Her small hands pressed against the bed as she sat up with the grace of a soaring dove. The softness of her hair could have easily been mistaken for feathers plucked from an angel’s wings. She crossed her pale legs and marveled at the weight of the book as her mother sat it down on her lap. Pages brimming with magic, adventure, and tragic love weighed down its tightly bound spine and filled the room with the presence of the sun.

Which story shall we read tonight, mother? she asked while running her hand over the page currently opened to the world.

I believe some time has passed since we last read the story of the moon child. She grinned knowingly as the sparkle in her eyes spilled onto her cheeks. The girl sat up straighter and tried to calm her excitement. It was her favorite story in the entire book. She could recite it by heart, but preferred the mystic connection she felt as her thirsty eyes drank in the contents of each page. With each word, each sentence, a magical world formed slowly. Piece by piece it flowed from the pages, enveloped the room and transformed their home into an endless source of imagination.

The smell of ambrosia filled her nose as she flipped through the pages in search of the story of choice. Her mother settled in beside her and waited patiently for her to begin.

"Once upon a time in a faraway land, a baby girl was born. Her eyes mirrored the stars above and her skin glowed of sparkling moonbeams. She brightened the night with her very presence. The moon applauded and the beasts of the night roared in celebration. As if on cue, the dark of night began to glitter with the arrival of a million fireflies. They had come from every corner of the universe to catch a glimpse of the small miracle child that was never meant to be. In their wake, every jasmine, orchid and moonflower in a mile radius became invigorated with hope and stretched their petals in joy. It was as if the world itself had been counting the seconds until her arrival.

As the clock struck midnight, her mother wrapped her tightly in sheets of linen and held her close. Her arrival must be kept hidden. Her secrets must remain unknown. In this faraway land, all beings bowed to her graces, but the evils that lurked beyond the golden gates of the horizon were ever watchful. If her presence were to become known, they would stop at nothing to destroy her. As if sensing her anxiety, bathed in the cool beauty of the moon, the child met the loving gaze of her protector and mother. It was then she decided upon a name. She would call her miracle child...Fallon.

Chapter One

Flour. I never would have thought such a simple baking ingredient could become twisted into a maniacal, gravity-proof weapon used to torture me endlessly. But that’s exactly what it had become.

Hey Biney! Why so pastry – I mean...pasty?

Their snide albino jokes hadn’t just gotten worse over time; they’d gotten more bizarre. When they weren’t tossing flour at me, they were painting ‘The Abominable Aura’ on my dorm door. When they tired of painting pictures of a white Bigfoot, complete with rainbows coming out of every orifice, they were throwing highlighters and bottles of White-Out at me in the halls. I considered myself particularly lucky when they were capped. Most of my shirts had long since lost their lives to pink, yellow and orange streaks. The only upside to the flour was the absence of sharp objects and permanent ink being throttled in my immediate direction.

With gritted teeth, I stopped midstride and squeezed my eyes shut with frustration as Celeste’s handful of flour coated my hair and face. I spit out the small amount that made its way into my mouth and wiped at my eyes. I coughed as the leftovers floating throughout the air in the hallway skirted into my nose and down into my lungs.

Celeste, one of her minions wheezed in a nauseatingly high voice. She can’t help if she’s a freak of nature.

Leave me alone, I mumbled before putting my head down and forcing my suddenly rigid legs to walk away.

What’s that, Biney? A coconut scented hand grabbed my arm and spun me back around. Her ebony, sculpted eyebrows wiggled up and down as she inspected my blank face; purposely devoid of all emotion. Her silver eyes tilted up as she smiled sweetly. You should really speak up when you talk. When you blend in with the walls, you have to try a little bit harder to get noticed.

I tried half-heartedly to snatch my arm away from her while I fought back the anger building beneath my skin. She tightened her grip and I felt the trace on the back of my neck pulse with charged energy. I took a deep breath to calm myself.

Maybe I like blending in. I forced my voice to sound timid. She released my arm and frowned with feigned pity.

It’s probably for the best, she surmised cynically. When you’re this weak and pathetic, your only option is to run and hide. I'm sure the wood nymphs would take you right in.

The echo of their laughter followed me down the sterile school hallway and into the girls’ bathroom. I leaned over one of the ornate porcelain sinks and stared in the mirror at my flour-caked face. Just as I feared, my freakish, bright blue eyes were beginning to swirl a menacing violet hue. I mustered up a little bit of wind with my fingertips and blew the edibles out of my hair and off my skin. As I turned towards one of the stalls, the door swung open with force.

One of these days somebody’s going to take that stick out of Celeste’s ass and beat her to death with it. And by somebody, I mean me.

Julian! I hissed at him; immediately dragging him into one of the stalls with me. You can’t just barge into the girls’ bathroom like you own the place!

Please. He rolled his brown eyes, pursed his lips and grinned devilishly at my chest. I’m more of a girl than you ever thought about being. I crossed my arms
