Descrizione

In this ebook, Dr. Carol Perkins shares her knowledge and experience as a Naturopathic Doctor (N.D.) to inform, educate and inspire people to become active participants in their journey for optimal health and vitality!

She believes that 'Nature is your best pharmacy.' This includes nutritious foods, herbal remedies, homeopathy and just good common sense.

You will find concise, yet clear and useful advise on how to stop flu and cold from ruining your precious time. It will also answer the most common questions people have:
* How can I prevent an infection?
* If an infection hits, how can I lessen the intensity and severity?
* Do I need to get the flu vaccine? Is it safe?
* Is the Ebola virus something I should worry about or is it just media hype?

In addition to providing strategies for disease prevention, Dr. Perkins gives her First-Line-of-Defense recommendations for the acute onset of flu and cold symptoms. Most infections resolve with no further intervention.

Unfortunately, not everyone has a healthy immune system. In these cases, her Second-Line-of-Defense recommendations may need to be implemented long-term.

Introduction

As a naturopathic doctor for the past 15 years, one of my greatest passions is to help people reach their highest life potential.

My family has been my greatest motivator to seek solutions to various health concerns from viral infections to cancer. My husband Chris, children Sherry, Deidra and Chris, grandchildren Amanda, Joshua, Alyssa, Julia, Ryan, Adam and Logan have inspired me to educate others to aspire to optimal health and wellness.

Before becoming a naturopathic doctor, I spent nearly 20 years in the computer science field designing and implementing robotics in various parts of the world. Success in this field depends on one’s ability to develop methods of critical thinking.

This critical thinking has influenced my approach to a patient’s health concerns - I can use logic and reasoning to identify the root cause of their illness and then design the best protocol for them to attain optimal health.

Ignore your health and it will go away.

Prevention and optimum health requires a good Health Coach.

Flu is one of the most notorious diseases mankind has had to face. We can expect it to come every year giving a quick, mild course or be a real threat. It is not the disease itself, but the possible complications such as pneumonia that make it dangerous.

Flu and colds can be mild or truly debilitating, taking its toll for days or even weeks, especially when it is out of control. Since flu and colds are expected, you can prepare yourself and your family for it throughout the year - if you have adequate information and tools.

To be ready for this year’s flu and cold attacks, it is absolutely critical that you maintain a healthy diet, get a moderate amount of exercise and support your immune system.

If the prevention plan fails and you do not escape symptoms of flu and cold, then options exist to shorten its course and prevent further complications. But first, you must be able to distinguish whether your symptoms are from the flu or cold. They share some similar symptoms but the course of disease is vastly different. A cold rarely leaves you bedridden, while the flu can easily do that – sometimes for a long time. This is especially important in the case of children whose immune systems may not be well developed enough to resist disease.

The universal fact is that nature is your best pharmacy.

This includes nutritious foods, herbal remedies, homeopathy, and just good common sense. In this ebook, you will find concise, yet clear and useful advice on how to stop flu and cold from ruining your precious time.

The ebook is divided into 4 main parts:

1. Why do we get sick?

2. Disease PREVENTION strategies.

3. Acute infection plan.

4. Chronic infections and cytokine storm recommendations.

Each section is filled with recommendations to restore and/or maintain optimal health.

Chapter 1: Why do we get sick?

Despite modern medical care in the United States, disease rates are increasing. Obesity, diabetes, autoimmune diseases and cancer are on the rise.

So what is the problem?

I believe that doctors do not focus on the root causes of why people are getting sick. Our health care model needs to be patient-oriented rather than disease-oriented.

According to 2014 statistics reported by the Center for Disease Control (CDC):

• 9.3% of the U.S. population is diabetic – an increase from 6 million to 16 million in the last 15 years. Another 21 million have impaired glucose tolerance.

• 35.7% of adults and 17% of children and adolescents are obese. On average, obese people have medical costs that are $1429 more than medical costs of normal weight people per year. In fact, the U.S. has the highest obesity rate in the world.

• Some form of depression, anxiety, or fatigue affects over 50% of the U.S. population.

Robyn O’Brien, the author of AllergyKids, states the following statistics:

• 400% increase in foods allergies

• 300% increase in asthma

• 1,000 – 6,000% increase in autism

• 400% increase in ADHD

• 400% increase in Celiac disease

• 45% of children will be insulin dependent within 10 years

Pretty Scary!

There is a lot of human misery reflected in these frightening statistics, plus billions of dollars involved in the health care needs these people require. Many decision makers in America continue to claim that the United States has the greatest health care system in the world.

But the fact is that America spends over 16% of its gross domestic product (GDP) on health care. Compare this with similar nations like Japan, Australia, Canada, and rich European nations who spend between 8 to 11% of their GDP on health care.

Would you be surprised if I told you that Americans, the citizens of the wealthiest country in the world, have a lower life expectancy rate, higher rate of heart disease and cancer, and
