Introduction-

Adjectifs - j
Adverbes - b
Articles- a
Conjonctions - c
Interjections- i
Noms - f - féminin
Noms - m - masculin
Noms - n - non spécifique
Prépositions - r
Pronoms - p
Verbes - v
Phrases - -
Terminaisons:
Masculin - Féminin
-------- - -------
cat -------- cate
er --------- ère
i ---------- ie
é ---------- ée
te --------- tesse
en --------- enne
eur -------- euse
eur -------- rice
in --------- ine
nt --------- nte

Introduction
This little e-book is a minimal dual-language sub-dictionary. It is called a sub-dictionary because it falls short of being a dictionary. It contains only 1,500+ words, but they are the most essential words (in any language) necessary for building a basic vocabulary. There is no pronunciation guide, no English stress assistance, no division of syllables or other niceties that a dictionary usually provides. Thus this e-book is not meant to be a substitute for a real dual-language dictionary.
The intention is to give to native speakers of either French or English a single word, or a few words that are usually synonymous, that capture the essential meaning of the word being translated; a kind of hook, so to speak, that will make it easier to retain the basic meaning of a translated word in human memory.
There are two main sections. One section gives alphabetical translations from English to French. The other section gives alphabetical translations of the same words from French to English.
With a few exceptions, only the most basic, important, generally necessary and useful words are included.
Simplicity, speed, and ease of access to words were the principal considerations.
Parts of speech (noun, verb etc.) are indicated by a single letter, or several letters, following the translation of each word. A table defining these letters that indicate parts of speech may be found in the following section.
Also there is a section called 'Cognates' – a list of words that have the same spelling and meaning in both languages.
If the basic meanings of all the words contained herein are mastered - and some study of verbs and grammar is undertaken - it should not be surprising if the student found herself/himself quite capable of basic verbal navigation through any French or English speaking country.
This sub-dictionary will provide a fast, convenient way of acquiring a basic, practical vocabulary.

Parts of Speech (POS) and Anomalies
Parts of speech are shown by a single letter, or several letters, at the end of each line:
a - article
b - adverb
c - conjunction
f - noun - feminine
i - interjection
j - adjective
m - noun - masculine
n - noun - no specific gender
p - pronoun
r - preposition
v - verb
- - phrase
The designated POS applies to all words on the line, except words in parenthesis and Interjections.
If there appears only a dash '-' and no letter after a translation, that indicates a phrase, where some words on that line have differing POS, so no POS are indicated.
Most French nouns have gender, so throughout this ebook the 'f' (feminine) and 'm' (masculine) designations at the end of lines apply to French nouns only. English nouns have no gender (see below).
The symbol m# at the end of a line denotes a French masculine noun whose ending may be changed to form the feminine:
Endings:
Masculine – Feminine
